Saving Lives… Three At A Time
The Blood Center of WI, partnering with our High School Student Council, recently held its Fall Blood Drive on
November 1st. We are proud and grateful to announce that we had 44 donors this year! Of the donations, 36
units of whole blood, 3 units of dual red, and 2 units of platelets were collected. Many thanks to our wonderful donors and the Blood Center of WI for their life-saving gift and work!

Kindergarten teachers just completed state-mandated testing of all kindergarten students using the PALS testing program.
Students were assessed for letter identification, letter sound identification, rhyme awareness, beginning letter sound awareness in
words, spelling knowledge, rereading a story & identifying individual words within that story, and isolated word recognition. This
test will be given again in the spring.
With only a few weeks into the school year, students are already reading sentences! The children are identifying letters and
sounds, printing letters, blending letter sounds to make words, and identifying beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words. We
retell and compare stories, make predictions, and identify characters, setting, and details. New vocabulary words are discussed. Students show understanding of words that describe size (tall, short, big, small) and positions (over, under, inside, outside, on, above,
below, in front, behind, left, and right).
By the end of the year many kindergarten students will be counting up to 100 by ones, tens, and fives. Students will also
count to 20+ by twos, count objects up to 50, print numbers to 20, and compare numbers. We create and interpret many charts,
graphs, tables, and diagrams. Children identify and count money. Students are learning many ways to sort, classify, and make patterns.
We also have fun while learning. Music, phy. ed., art, library, and recess are a favorite part of most days. We are fortunate
to have Mrs. Helmrick, the Plainfield Public Librarian, come on Fridays to read stories. Bird feeders and leaf rubbings were made
during our trip to the school forest.

Showing our PINK!!
The 7th and 8th graders were a sea of PINK on October 19th for the MS Student Council PINK day! Students were able to purchase pink hair extensions on Thursday the 18th and donated money during Impact Hour on
Friday. Many thanks to Trina Smith for donating her time and expertise to
fit the students with their hair extensions. All money collected has been
donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation; an amazing total of $163.45!!
FRIGHT NIGHT!!
The HS Student Council held a bewitching fundraiser October
26th! We enjoyed a scary movie on the big screen, complete
with popcorn and beverages, then enjoyed a toasty bonfire in
the field behind the school. All money collected was donated
to Hunter and his family, a patient through the Children’s Miracle Network who is battling cancer. Through the generous donations of the community $123.60 was raised!
Halloween Spooks
This year we took a break from our normal day to day routine to enjoy some spooktacular trick-or-treating during Impact Hour and a
costume contest. This year’s contest featured awards for best costume, funniest costume, and scariest costume for both our students
and wonderful staff. Next year we may need to add a category for
group costume… check out our Scooby Doo group!

2012 National FFA Convention & Expo sets all-time attendance record
Raymond Lauer, Alex Bacon, Dakota Lockhart, Lucas Marinack, Matthew Nigh, Shannon Heath, Elizabeth Kemnetz and Sarah Chojnacki had the opportunity to attend the
85th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 24th-27th.
The convention presented FFA members with a world of possibilities. Attendees were
able to explore the many opportunities available to today's agriculture students and
learn how to grow on an individual basis and on a chapter level. Grow, was the convention’s theme, challenging students to take advantage of opportunities that they have
through the FFA and life and to grow into the best possible leader they can be. It also
challenged students to think of how the world and agriculture are going to be able to
support the growing global population on fewer acres of tillable land. This message
instilled in each student to think outside of the box as to how they can grow, how FFA
can grow and how agriculture can grow enough food to support the future global population.
A record number of FFA members from throughout the country attended the 2012 National FFA Convention & Expo this week in Indianapolis. The convention and expo
had 56,176 attendees.
The new record is an almost 3,000-member jump in convention attendance from last
year, when 53,358 attended the event. During the 2011-12 school year, 16,939 students
joined FFA and raised the organization’s total membership to 557,318 students in
grades seven through 12 in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Next year, the convention and expo heads to Louisville for a three-year run before
coming back to Indianapolis in 2016.
The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 557,318 student members in grades
seven through 12 who belong to one of 7,498 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S.,
Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
The Tri-County FFA convention attendees would like to extend a HUGE thank you to
the Tri-County FFA Alumni for their financial support in helping them attend this conference.

High School Art Students recently visited the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau. In addition to viewing the annual Birds in Art exhibit, they had the opportunity to participate in a pyrography workshop with artist Julie Bender. For
most it was the first time they had worked with woodburning tools and they
were amazed at all the different lines and tones they could create while they
worked on their feather images on a block of birchwood. Finished student work
was part of a display in the museum through the end of the Birds in Art exhibit.
