GLOBAL PLATFORM FOR ACTION ON SOURCING FROM WOMEN VENDORS
Women business owners are poised to take advantage of increasing demand for their goods and services. More than 90%
of Fortune 500 companies have a supplier diversity programme, and many are actively seeking to source from women. The
sourcing is no longer local or national, presenting tremendous opportunities for women across the world, including in developing
countries, to sell into global supply chains.
The Global Platform on Sourcing from Women Vendors aims to increase the share of corporate, government and institutional
procurement secured by women vendors for the ultimate purpose of bringing greater economic benefit to women and their
communities. The Women Vendors Exhibition and Forum (WVEF) is the inaugural event in the Global Platform’s 10-year
strategy to link women vendors and corporate buyers, and to build the capacity of vendors to meet buyer requirements.
The initiative is led by the International Trade Centre (ITC) with the support of WEConnect International. Global Platform
members include more than 300 companies – from small enterprises to the largest multinational corporations – and women’s
organisations, with the direct benefit of linkages to women business owners across multiple sectors and countries.
Signatories to the Global Platform Commit to:
1. Create shared value by sourcing from women vendors that offer competitive products and services;
2. Promote the benefits of sourcing from women vendors, educating multinational corporations on the business case and
return on investment;
3. Share knowledge on policies and practices to increase sourcing form women vendors;
4. Support, initiate or improve efforts to integrate women vendors into value chains; and
5. Report to the Platform for Action Steering Committee on activities and impact via an annual survey.

FOREWORD – INTERNATIONAL TRADE CENTRE
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Mexico City on the occasion of the second edition of the Women
Vendors Exhibition and Forum, and the annual event of the Global Platform on Sourcing from Women
Vendors. This year we will continue to build on last year’s success, ensuring that many more women
vendors are included in the global value chain by establishing partnerships with corporations and small and
medium-sized enterprises.
To complement the participation of the larger corporations, we have this year brought in small and mediumsized enterprises as buyers. This recognises the important role that small and medium-sized enterprises
play in the global value chain, as buyers, but also as suppliers to larger corporations.
We have also for the first time invited government procurement officers to join us at the Women Vendors
Exhibition and Forum. By increasing their sourcing from women vendors through their existing and planned
spending, governments have a big opportunity to achieve their development objectives.
According to the European Commission, the average Fortune 500 Company spends US$ 6 million each
day on indirect purchasing. Meanwhile, across the OECD, public procurement represents around 17% of
GDP. This represents a significant opportunity for governments to achieve development objectives through
increased sourcing from women vendors.
To maximize the value for money from public procurement, fair and inclusive policies and processes need
to be put in place by Governments. But the empowerment of women in trade is also a catalyst for achieving
gender equality and an important step towards realizing the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
5
At this year’s Women Vendors Forum and Exhibition we will work to ensure that more women successfully
enter the global value chain by linking up with businesses and governments. Amid the on-going global
financial turmoil these might seem like small steps, but including women in global trade is part of the
solution to bringing global economic growth back on track.

Apart from being one of the oldest plantations in the region, the ANJ Plantation is one of the few plantations that
survived the decline in the price of cash crops, the devaluation, and the liberalization of the coffee marketing.
Located in the heights of the western region of Cameroon, the ANJ plantation is engaged in the recovery
strategy of the coffee sector that faces many challenges. Some include:
1) the poor quality of coffee produced by farmers who either cannot afford the pesticides or cannot obtain
them due to the expenses their obtaining can cause.
2) Farmers who are not educated and enlightened in terms of good growing practices or market prices.
3) Women, being those who constitute the majority of the population in plantations, and who mostly work in
plantations are not well assisted. It is one of the reasons why the ANJ Plantation have opened the
Manunshi showcasing room in the country’s capital.
The Manunshi Gallery was established in 1997, with the purpose of promoting locally produced products. The

NADIA JEWELRY
PALESTINE
website: www.nadiajewelry.com • e-mail: [email protected]
The company was established when Nadia took courses in jewelry design in 2005. The main silver items that
she produces are original cast silver pieces that come from olive trees and oak trees.
Nadia casts original silver pieces that are duplicates of original olive leaves taken fresh from the trees. In the
Palestinian context, the olive leaf is a symbol for peace, rootedness, and belonging. Each silver piece is
unique as there are no duplicates in nature.
The pieces are handcrafted from the heart, with special attention to the smallest detail from its conception to
its completion.
The leaves are picked and each leaf is delicately fixed onto a wax column and then coated in gypsum to
produce a replica leaf mould. Melted silver is then carefully cast into the mould. During the cooling process,
the gypsum hatches giving birth to a magnificent silver leaf, which is used to design distinctive pieces of
jewelry.
