Second Collection this weekend: Catholic Relief
Services funds six Catholic Agencies that work to serve
our suffering brothers and sisters in the Lord around the
world. Through humanitarian aid, resettlement of
displaced individuals and families, and advocating on
behalf of victims, Catholic Relief Services allows us to
see Christ in every suffering person. These agencies
work to provide food, water, disaster relief and other vital
assistance to those in need.
Please be as generous as you can, as your support truly
makes a difference.
Round and About The Bronx County Irish Heritage
Celebration was held at Rambling House last week.
Borough President Ruben Diaz and Counsel General
Noel Kilkenny awarded a priest formerly of Saint
Barnabas, Fr. Richard Gorman, along with Caroline
Duggan, founder of Celtic Dream and John Samuelsen,
president of Local 100. Congratulations to the honorees.
Easter Flowers have a beautiful place at the Altar
during this sacred season. They also serve as a way to
memorialize a loved one or stand vigil for a special
intention. Anyone wishing to memorialize a loved one
with flowers can use the Flower Envelope. An offering of
$10.00 is appreciated.
Envelopes can be found in the vestibule
Lenten Reminder
Please convert your almsgiving for Lent into a gift
card from the A&P. These cards can be dropped
off at the rectory or left at Mass with a parish
representative (priest, usher, lady of Charity).
Thank you.
THE POOR BOX is a silent way the parish begs for
people in need. Your donation into the poor boxes
located at the doors of the church and chapel are used
for those who come to the parish in dire need. Some
common requests are food, medicine, travel to find work,
some sort of unexpected emergency in their lives which
they cannot afford.
Fridays are days of abstinence from meat. Every day is a
fasting day, meaning only one full meal. The quantity of
food should be limited at the other two meals.
Make a good confession during Lent
RECONCILIATION MONDAY – EVERYWHERE
April 14th, from 3:00pm – 9:00pm
Every parish will have a priest hearing
confessions in preparation for Easter.
THE PASTORS CORNER
Let’s be clear. The glaring intolerance concerning our Saint Patrick’s Day Parade comes from certain
politicians and pseudo progressives who deny Catholics the Right of Religious Freedom. Intolerance is not
coming from the Catholic Church. Catholics have certain beliefs and morals that make us catholic. To force us
not to observe them is to deny our constitutional right of religious freedom. Not to permit a banner in our
parade that contradicts our moral beliefs is well within that right. This stance, furthermore, does not make us
bigoted. The Catholic Church has great compassion for those who are subject to same sex attraction and
anyone who struggles with sexual challenges. Persons are welcome to march in the parade. Ideologies or
signs that contract Catholism are not welcome because they give the impression that we stand for this
message. If Mayor DeBlasio does not want to march with us, that is his faux pas, but for him to call us bigoted
is absolutely wrong.
The Blast on 116th Street is very near to Saint Paul’s Parish on 117th Street just east of Park. Some
parishioners at Saint Barnabas recommended that I call that parish to see if there was any way we could help
the victims of that gas leak explosion. The pastor at St. Paul’s, Fr. Plabo was very appreciative of our offer to
help. He said that the parish has stopped accepting offers because the local response has been tremendously
helpful. He suggested that we continue to pray for the families who lost loved ones.
Another Successful Basketball Season The
parish high school intramural league came to conclusion
with the playoffs and championship games. We have six
teams of eight boys in the league. A debt of gratitude
goes to Roger, Mary and Evan Murphy for running the
league.
In two weeks we will start the young men’s parish
league. If you are interested in playing please contact
Roger Murphy at [email protected]
BABY SUPPLY DRIVE - TODAY
Siena House needs your help.
Anthony Griffin from Troop 47, Saint Paul’s Parish will be
holding baby supply drive for Siena House as a part of
his Eagle Scout Project. Please donate any supplies
such as diapers; baby wipes (unscented), bottles
pacifiers, digital thermometers, washable baby books,
new baby clothes, sippy cups, baby shampoo and baby
carriers. The collection will be held THIS weekend
following the Masses.
Please DO NOT bring donations to the rectory.
FROM THE FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF THE RENEWAL
Dear Saint Barnabas Parishioners:
May the Lord give you His Peace! We are grateful for your
continued support of our “Pater Noster” food pantry for the
poor. As we prepare for Easter, we are hoping to provide
our neighbors with enough food for a special meal. We are
happy to receive any contribution of non-perishable food;
however, we wanted to share our specific need for: cans of
pineapple and fruit, boxed mashed potatoes, canned
potatoes, rice, non-refrigerated dessert items (ie cookies,
hostess cakes), gravy and tomato sauce. Please no glass
jars. We are also accepting monetary donations to help
defray the cost of hams, which we hope to give each family
for their Easter mean. The collection for April will be on
April 12th-13th. We pray that God will reward your
generosity abundantly.
Gratefully in Jesus,
The Franciscan Sister of the Renewal
The Cardinals Annual Stewardship Appeal is an
essential source of funding for Archdiocesan activities
that our diverse parish communities greatly and directly
benefit from. Your gift affects the lives of many!

our parishes.
Provide for our retired priests and religious.
Assist the children in our Catholic schools
and catechetical programs.
Enable our youth to become leaders and
Christian witnesses.

deaconate.

Lectio Divina Training Lectio Divina combines the
reading of Sacred Scripture with prayerful contemplation. It
can also be an experience of meaningful faith sharing
among others in a small group. The practice may help to

more about the riches of the Bible and how it can impact
their personal lives.
There is a Lectio Divina training day for those interested in
learning more on March 29th sponsored by the American
Bible Society from 10-5pm at the New York Catholic
Center. Please contact 646-794-2859.
