Ariko, AJ to St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in the
Archdiocese of New York Archdiocese. Fr. John Stephen

ENCYCLICAL ON THE ENVIRONMENT: THE CARDINAL’S
ANNUAL STEWARDSHP APPEAL 2016: Every year, Cardinal

YEAR OF MERCY PILGRIMAGE : The top of Manhattan
to the bottom of Manhattan! We will be walking the
length of Manhattan, visiting churches in honor of the Year
of Mercy! We will visit two churches named after two
saints who are examples of God's Mercy: Saints Peter and
Paul. Plus we will visit two churches that have designated
Holy Doors for this jubilee year: St Frances Xavier Cabrini
Shrine and St Patrick's Cathedral. This walk is a 13.5 total

ASH WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 10, 2016: This year 2016,

LENTEN RECONCILIATION MONDAY:
This year’s
Lenten Reconciliation is scheduled to take place on
Monday March 21, 2016 beginning from 3.00 p.m. till 9.00

BLESSING OF CANDLES: On the occasion of the Feast of
the Presentation of the Lord , there will be a blessing of
candles on the 30th Saturday 31st Sunday of January and on

God's words in today's First Reading point us beyond
Jeremiah to Jesus. Like Jeremiah, Jesus was consecrated
in the womb and sent as a "prophet to the nations".
Like the prophets before Him, Jesus too faces hostility.
In today's Gospel, the crowd in His hometown
synagogue quickly turns on Him, apparently demanding
a sign, some proof of divine origins - that He's more
than just "the son of Joseph."
The sign He gives them is that of the prophets Elijah and
Elisha. From their colorful careers Jesus draws two
stories. In each, the prophets bypass "many...in Israel"
to bestow God's blessings on non-Israelites who had
faith that the prophets were men of God ."None...not
one" in Israel was found deserving, Jesus emphasizes.
His point isn't lost on His audience. They know He's
likening them to the "many...in Israel" in the days of the
prophets. That's why they try to shove Him off the cliff.
As He promised to protect Jeremiah, the Lord delivers
Jesus from those who would crush Him.
And as were Elijah and Elisha, Jesus is sent to proclaim
God's gift of salvation - not exclusively to one nation or
people, but to all who realize in faith that from the
womb God alone is their hope, their rescuer, their "rock

Prophecies, Paul tells us in today's Epistle, are partial
and pass away "when the perfect comes." In Jesus, the
word of the prophets has been brought to perfection,
fulfilled in those who have ears to hear, as He declares
in today's Gospel.
Greater than the gifts of faith and hope, Jesus shows us
how to love as He loved, to love God as our Father, as
One Who formed us in the womb and destined us to
hear His saving Word.
This is the salvation, the "mighty works of the Lord,"
that we, as the Psalmist, are thankful to proclaim daily
in the Eucharist.

ENCICLICA SOBRE EL CUIDADO DE LA CREACION:
En su encíclica del mes de Junio, 2015, sobre el cuidado de
la creación, Laudato Si, el papa Francisco proclama que los
pobres son los mas perjudicados por la destrucción del
medio ambiente y los cambios climáticos. Que los países
desarrollados como el nuestro tienen una “deuda
ambiental “ con los pobres. Rezamos con el Papa
Francisco: “ Oh Dios de los pobres, ayúdanos a rescatar a
los abandonados y olvidados de esta tierra y haznos
capaces de proteger al mundo y no destruirlo”. En la
encíclica se nos urge a hacer lo posible para apoyar
acuerdos globales sobre – el desarrollo sustentable;- la
protección de los ecosistemas de todo el mundo;- la
limitación a la emisión de los gases que producen el efecto
invernadero y limitarla en mayor medida en los países
desarrollados que en los países pobres. Se nos alienta a
reducir nuestro consumismo y reducir nuestra “huella de
carbón.”
BENDICIÓN DE VELAS: En la ocasión de la Fiesta de la
Presentación del Señor, habrá una bendición de las velas el
sábado 30 domingo 31 de enero y el 2 de febrero después
de cada Misa. Por favor traiga sus velas.
BENDICION DE LA GARGANTA: El miércoles 3 de
Febrero, 2016, celebramos la memorial de San Blas,
Obispo y Mártir. Este día tenemos dos misas 1:00 pm
en ingles y 7:30 pm en español. Venga y reciba una
bendición personal.

Cuando Jesus empieza su ministerio publico, como
Jeremías, enfrenta ataques. En dos semanas
escucharemos como Satanás ataca al mero comienzo. Y
durante todo su ministerio Jesus lucha contra demonios.
La gente también lo ataca, incluyendo los paisanos.
Escuchamos hoy como quieren echarlo a un precipicio.
Nota que Jesus no grita, no se pondré violento o agresivo,
no maldice. Pasa por en medio de ellos y sigue su misión.
Si ellos lo rechazan hay otros que lo necesitan.
Que diferente que tu y yo! Hablare por mi mismo. Si
recibo rechazos o insultos, me inquieto. Pero en vez de
amargarme, debo hace dos cosas: Uno, preguntarme si
puedo aprender algo del rechazo. Dos, recordar que hay
gente que, si, me necesita. Como la Madre Teresa decía
cuando las Hermanas se sentían deprimidas, "Ir con la
gente." Todos enfrentamos pruebas, tristezas, aun
tragedias. La pregunta es: Que hacemos con esas
contradicciones? El primer paso es reconocer que Dios los
permite
para
que
aprendamos
el
amor.
Quizás piensas, "Yo se como amar!" Verdad? Escucha lo
que Pablo dice: El Amor es paciente. No se jacta ni
fanfarronea. No es presumido ni se envanece. No es
egoísta. No se irrita ni guarda rencor. Concluye así: "El
amor disculpa sin limites, confía sin limites, espera sin
limites, soporta sin limites. El amor dura por siempre."
De esta descripción podemos ver que amor es mas que un
sentimiento. No malentender. Las Emociones son
importantes. Flotamos sobre un océano de sentimientos.
Como ondas nos muevan aquí y allá. Debemos hacer todo
posible para promover emociones positivos. Pero al final
de las cuentas, amor no es una emoción. Amor es una
decisión. Aun mas, amor es gracia: algo mas allá de la
capacidad humana. San Pablo dice que el amor es un
carisma - un don de Dios. Tenemos que pedir a Dios por
ese don.

Señor Jesucristo, tu has ensenado a ser misericordioso
como el Padre del cielo, y nos has dicho que quien te ve, lo
ve también a El. Muéstranos tu rostro y obtendremos la
salvación. Pedro luego de la traición y aseguro el Paraíso al
ladrón arrepentido. Haz que cada uno de nosotros escuche
como propia la palabra que dijiste a la samaritana: Si
conocieras el don de Dios!
Tu eres el rostro visible del Padre invisible, del Dios que
manifiesta su omnipotencia sobre todo con el perdón y la
misericordia: haz que, en el mundo, la iglesia sea el rostro
visible de Ti, su Señor, resucitado y glorioso.
