TheIsolAiraircurtainissitedaboveaninsidedoorwithminimaltemperaturefluctuationsbetweenthetwoareas.These
fluctuationscanbecontrolledproperlywithtwopositionsofthecontrol.Thecontrolconsistsofanexternalcontrolbox,aroom
thermostatandadoorswitch.Thethermostatisalwaysmountedonthewarmside.Dependingonthetemperaturedifference
measuredbytheroomthermostat,thecontrolboxautomaticallyswitchesbetweenthetwopositions.TheIsolAiralways
operatesattheoptimumoutput,withahighseparationefficiencyasaresult.
Inthegraphbelowthelinesshowthepoweroftheairstreaminsixpositions.TheIsolAirmakesitpossibletoswitchbetween
twoofthesixpositions.Thesetwopositionsarepre-set.Thechoiceofthepositionisbasedonthedoorheightandthe
temperaturedifference(∆T)oftheareas.Foranoptimalseparationefficiency,theIsolAirshouldalwaysbesettoahigher
positionthanthepointbasedonthecalculation.

Thedoorheightis3meters,thetemperatureinthechilledareais6°Candthetemperatureinthehallis20°C.Inthiscase,
thetemperaturedifferenceis14°C(∆T14°C).Ata∆T14°C,thecorrectpositionis2(redline).Whenthetemperature
differencegetshigherthan∆T16°C,andthusrisesabovetheredline,theaircurtainwillbeswitchedtoposition3(purple

Anaircurtainaboveanopeninsidedoorprovidesclimateseparationofthetworooms.Whilst
developingtheIsolAir,Biddlechosetouseitswell-knownoutletdischargepattern,theDouble
Rectifier.TheIsolAirisequippedwithradialbackwardcurvedfanswhichhomogeneously
distributetheairacrossthewholedischargeopening,producinghighefficiencyandcomfort
levels.
Ifaconventionalaircurtainwithoutarectifierdischargesairatthesamevelocityasaunitwith
aDoubleRectifier,thedownwardpenetrationistangiblyless.Theairstreamdoesnotreach
thefloor,andtheopendoorisnotcoveredoffproperly.Consequencesincludedraught,loss
ofenergyandcomfortcomplaints.

TheDoubleRectifierhasverticalfinsmountedontopofthehorizontalfinstostreamlinetheair
flowinabetterway,resultinginanexcellentdownwardpenetration.TheIsolAirmakessure
theair,whichisabouttoflowoutthroughtheopendoor,staysintheroom.TheDouble
Rectifier,whichminimizesturbulenceinthedischargeairstreamandsurroundingair,ensures
thattheairmovementgeneratedbythefans,isdirecteddownwardinadeeplypenetrating
laminarairstream.Asaconsequencetheenergyconsumptionisreducedandcomfortlevels
areincreased.
