Team
“Formula Student MAMI” has taken part in international engineering competitions Formula SAE for 6 years. In
2012/2013 season we designed the 6th race car – Iguana Generation 6, which participated in 2 world competitions:
Germany, Hockenheimring track, and Italy, Ricardo Paletti track. For the moment our team ranks number 1 among
Russian teams.
Our team is a companion for many foreign and Russian companies. For them “Formula Student MAMI” is a demonstration of effective use of materials and technologies, and also it’s a possibility for preparing high-qualified personnel.

July 30th – August 4th was a period for “Formula
Student Germany 2013” competition that is considered
to be the most prestige and top-rated stage of Formula
SAE series. FDR MAMI team of Moscow State University
of Mechanical Engineering was the only representative
of Russia, which has earned a right to participate in FSG
2013.
The stage, hold on the famous Formula 1 Hockenheimring
track, was a debut for Iguana G6 race car, that’s why
team’s responsibility for great work was especially high.
In Germany own prototypes were presented by more
than 125 teams from 23 countries.
Traditionally this Formula SAE stage consists of static
and dynamic events, and it’s famous for German strictness
and impartial technical inspection.

Technical Inspection at FSG is hold by DEKRA company. Their aim is to scrutinize every
component of a race car, from powertrain systems and to fasteners in chassis. Also for being
allowed to participate in dynamic events, every team has to pass Rollover stability test, Noise
test and Braking test. Iguana G6 was prepared enough for DEKRA technical inspection: it
has successfully passed the control of experts and has been enabled to take part in dynamic
competition.
Static event includes Cost Analysis, Engineering Design Presentation and Business Plan
Presentation for experts from leading world companies of automotive industry, which judge all
the events. In 2013 a team of Moscow State University Engineering took the 7th place from 75 in
Cost Event.
Dynamic event consists of Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross and Endurance. In this season
Iguana G6 showed itself really well in Acceleration: the car increased speed from 0 to 100 km/h
in 4.6 seconds.

ENDURANCE - A FINAL RACE
The most important part of the stage – Endurance – was held on the final day of the competition. It is a true
examination for a car and a grade for hard working, long days of planning, projecting and building. A final race
includes 18 laps, 9 laps for every driver, and driver change, and not every team succeeds in passing the heat.
A first part of the race was passed in one breath, but on the last laps the car started running
slower. At the driver change a judge attentively checked the car before a next heat. As it turned
out, the car’s speed reduced after failure of a front right caliper. Unfortunately, Iguana couldn’t
continue the race according to safety rules, and our team completed this event just in a half.

September 12th, 2013 in a month after completing
FSG competition, FDR MAMI team visited Formula SAE
series in Italy, Varani de Melegari, Ricardo Paletti track.
Population of the city is just 500 people, although the track
is used in Formula Renault and Formula 3, and amount
of Formula Student participants is about 2000 students.
This competition is a unique possibility to attend a famous
race track and work with professionals of motorsport. The
event in Italy was organized by Dalara Company, which
makes first-rate chassis for Formula 1, Le Mans and
Indy Car race cars. Company’s representatives always
consulted students in different situations and could help
at any moment.
Technical Inspection, Tilt test, Noise test and Brake test were easily passed. Static disciplines
were judged by leading experts from Bosch, Lamborghini and Fiat. During the Static Event the
team continued working with the car.
This year the team was close to optimal car tuning and gained a good result in acceleration 4.1 seconds. Just after the Acceleration Skid Pad was accurately passed. Dynamic part of the
competition was extreme because of weather, but in spite of rain pilots demonstrated the best
driving skills in Autocross.

Formula Student competition gives an ability:
- to design a race car by own powers
- to learn newest technologies
- to communicate with leading experts from automotive industry
- to gain an experience in speaking and business English
- to practice in making a product according to necessary standards
So the results are the following:
Endurance – a final race. Passing it is a dream and an aim of every team. In this moment atmosphere
- Nowadays FDR MAMI is a leading team in Russia
- The 6th race car of FDR MAMI team was created
- Iguana G6 – it is a revolution in Iguana family
of race is felt especially.
Iguana G6 showed perfect dynamic qualities. A track with different corners wasn’t a problem for
our pilots. The team held a leading position from the start. Suddenly Iguana stopped for a second
and hardly continued the race. It was clear that the problem with brake system appeared again.
The race ended ahead of time.

Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering was an organizer of the master-class. Participants tried to discuss
all topical problems that teams usually meet. Executives of different companies demonstrated how students can use gained
knowledge. ART-Line Company was presented by: Shota Merabovich Abhavaza – an owner of Artline race team, race car
engineer, businessman; Vasiliy Antipov – a general director of “Artline Engineering Moscow”; Anastasiya Gricenko – PRmanager. An Artline team pilot, Mihail Aleshin, who was a specially invited guest, shared some secrets of pilotage. Anton
Fedoseev, a representative of Autodesk Company, told about modern technologies in projecting and computer analysis, and
Anton Malyshev (Motul), who participated in “Formula Student MAMI” team, told about the features of sponsor’s support.
53 Fast Living Company reported about the development of motorsport in Russia; according to their opinion, sometimes it’s
important to break the rules for reaching a dream. Participants were informed by “Composite” Holding Company and “NIAT”
representatives about using composite materials in automotive industry. The arrangement was prettified with cheerleader’s
performance and demonstration run of “Formula Student MAMI” race cars.

V Moscow Youth Forum “MosEx po” Exhibition Center
V Moscow Youth Forum took place on 12 Decemder, 2012 in
“MosExpo” Exhibition Center.
A main aim of the arrangement was to present all interests of modern
young adults: from extreme kinds of sport to innovative projects. More
than 10 000 people visited this Forum just in one day. Also there were
presentations, lections, trainings, master-classes and interactive games.
The exposition hall was divided into 12 areas. Moscow State
University of Mechanical Engineering showed its 7 projects at “Business
and Innovations” area, among them was a “Formula Student MAMI”
international laboratory with Iguana EVO3 race car.

V Russian youth robotic festival “RoboFest-2013” took place on February
8th and 9th, 2013 at the “Crocus Expo” Moscow exposition center.
For the first time the festival was international, being visited by teams from
USA, Mexico, Romania and Serbia. As a result more than 2000 participants
presented about 500 self-developed workings. They were supported by
Lego, National Instruments, Autodesk, “Popular mechanics” magazine,
“Science 2.0”TV-channel, Polytechnic museum and the others.
Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering showed the most
interesting developments, among them, as a tradition, was “Formula
Student MAMI” team’s race car – Iguana EVO4. Although main objects of
the exhibition were robots, there is no surprise that not less attention was
paid to our car, because a modern car’s electronic needs much work.

“KAMAZ-master” team visits “Formula Student MAMI”
Hannover Messe 2013
March 13, 2013 a legendary truck of “KAMAZ-master” team arrived to
the Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering.
A pilot Eduard Nikolaev, who has taken the first place in “Dakar-2013”
rally-marathon in South America, hold a master-class for students and
guests of the University. After an autograph-session Eduard visited the
laboratory of “Formula Student MAMI” engineering team, where he had
a look at the car of another racing class, and wrote his wishes on the
body of Iguana EVO4.

From the 8 to 12 of April one of the oldest authoritative exhibitions – Hannover
Messe 2013 took place in Germany. Annually for 70 years Hannover city is visited
by by representatives of leading international companies that specialize in many
areas of mechanical engineering and manufacturing. Besides a central mount,
Rusian teams were presented in thematic sections. Ministry of Education and
Science of the Russian Federation leading Universities demonstrated the latest
developments. One of the mounts showed the developments of Moscow state
University of Mechanical engineering. Visitors could have a look at a race car of
“Formula Student MAMI”team – Iguana Evo 4.
Dmitriy Viktorovich Livanov, a Minister Of Education and science of Russian
Federation, got acquainted with workings of Moscow state University of
Mechanical Engineering, and showed for another one time his wish to test
Iguana EVO4 by himself.

Presentation of Iguana G6 racecar
July 19, 2013 a presentation of a new race car Iguana G6 took place at a
“Discodrom” karting-club. The car was a result of hard working of Moscow
State University of Mechanical Engineering race team. The event was visited
by University administration representatives, journalists and team’s partner
companies. During the evening guest could take part in a karting race. A
winner got an essential prize – an ability to become a pilot of Iguana EVO for
10 minutes.
In addition to the program, girls from cheerleading “DRIVE” team showed
their performance and supported the atmosphere of races.

On the 26th of August an opening ceremony of international specialized
exhibition of spare parts “Motor mechanic 2013” took place at a central
exposition complex “Expocenter”. Visitors had an ability not only to get
acquainted with newly-designed products in automotive industry, but also to
organize new business ties.
As a part of support to NTN-SNR educational project, what’s main purpose is
to improve the level of professional knowledge of students, FDR MAMI team of
Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering exposed an Iguana EVO4
race car.

9th international exhibition of automotive
industry “Interauto”
9th international exhibition of automotive industry “Interauto” lasted from the 28th to the 31st of August at the
“Crocus Expo” exposition center.
A main goal of the exhibition was to assist the realization of Russian automotive industry. Annually the exposition
increases its rates, both in quantity and quality, more and more foreign companies of international standard are
getting engaged with it.
As part of “Interauto 2013” an annually prize-giving ceremony took place, where the main awards were an
independent premium “Autocomponent of the year 2013” and “Gold Key 2013” Premium – an international
independent professional prize at the market of brands and supply of car service equipment in Russia. “Round
tables” and conferences were held. Participation in the exhibition became a tradition for Moscow State University
of Mechanical Engineering. That year many exhibits were presented to the visitors’ attention. They were Iguana
EVO3 race car and BODY roadster, which became brands of the University. Iguana EVO3 is a fourth race car of
FDR MAMI team, and it took part in Formula Student Germany and Formula Student Austria competitions.

The last Saturday of September in Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering was unusual – there was
an Open Doors Day of new type. School leavers and guests of the event (about 250 people) got acquainted with
new departments and schools of educational syndicate that is known as Moscow State University of Mechanical
Engineering. New parts of the University – V. S. Chernomyrdin Moscow State Open University (nowadays V. S.
Chernomyrdin Polytechnic Institute) and Moscow State evening metallurgical institute (new Faculty of Metallurgy)
presented their directions of education. Graduates could see the works of students of the University, among which
were FDR MAMI team race cars Iguana EVO3, Iguana EVO4 and Iguana G6.

From the 11th to the 13th of October VIII Science Festival took place
in Moscow. The festival was a final and the most amplitudinous event
of III Russian Science Festival. This yet traditional event was hold by
Moscow City Government and Lomonosov Moscow State University,
being supported by the Ministry of Science and Education of Russian
Federation.
At the central exhibition area of Moscow Science Festival in
“Expocenter” central exposition complex our university showed some
unique exhibits. Iguana G6 race car was one of them.

From the 24th to the 27th of October St. Petersburg international motor transport forum took place at “Lenexpo”
exposition center. There was a discussion of up-to-day questions, connected with the development of Russian
automotive industry. This industry nowadays is one of dynamically improving directions in the native mechanical
engineering. Participants, invited to the forum, were leading companies from automotive, transport and adjacent
branches from Russia, China, Poland, Canada, Finland, German and Turkey and branch-wise unions, associations
and universities.
“Formula Student MAMI” team that has taken part in Formula SAE international engineering competitions
presented the team’s developments and achievements, showed technical presentation of Iguana EVO4, marking
out perspectives of Formula SAE progress in Russia.
As part of the forum, the team’s pilot demonstrated dynamic abilities and maneuverability of the sixth race car
– Iguana G6.

Open Innovations 2013
For 3 days (31 October – 2 November) “Crocus Expo” Moscow exposition
center has been a ground with the most progressive technologies, where
participants of Open Innovations international forum gathered. The forum was
organized by Russian institutes of development and Moscow City Government,
with support from the Government of the Russian Federation.
The event was called on to unite representatives of business, science and
Government for experience exchange and for analyzing main trends in innovations.
Also “Open Innovations expo” exhibition took place, which concentrated 350
companies from 15 countries that presented more than 10000 workings.
Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering (MAMI) was presented
on the mount of Ministry of Science and Education of Russian Federation and
on the mount of “Composite” holding company with projects of Engineering and
Prototyping laboratory and international teams FDR MAMI and SMC MAMI.

Karting without boundaries

November 24th, 2013 Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering carried out first karting
competitions “Karting without boundaries” for people with reduced capabilities on the track of Arena
GP karting club, being supported by Moscow City Department of Education. For unique races the
University designed special karts, which can be driven without legs. In developing these cars young
engineers of the University took part.
More than 30 people took part in the competition. Many participants go in for different kinds of sport,
but, as they confess, they have never had such feelings like in the competition. In the end of the event
a race car Iguana G6, built by students of Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering, showed
its demo drive. Although the karting track was small, Iguana managed to pass all turns at high speed.

CAD - Olymp 2013
CAD-Olymp is a unique event, which is hold between talented young people: college students, university students and
young specialists, studying engineering disciplines like 3d-modeling, prototyping and designing.
The event was organized by Moscow City Government, presented by Department of Science, Industrial Policy and
Enterprise, presidents senate of Moscow and Moscow Region universities and regional division of engineering workers
guild cooperative with native companies. One of them was our sponsor “Autodesk” – a programmer of CAD-systems.
Important steps in building a race car are making a concept and prototyping. Engineering work of every team member
starts from this stage. For creating a 3d-model of a car we use CAD systems: Solid Works and Autodesk Inventor. While
working with these programs, our students got knowledge that can give a great advantage at the labor market. FDR
MAMI team visited “CAD-Olymp” forum to share this experience with the other participants. We told about the team’s life
and work at the “Moscow” conference-hall, where also Iguana EVO3 race car was presented.

From the 10th to the 11th of December “Formula Student Russia: development
perspectives” International conference took place at “Moscow” congress
center. It was dedicated to preparation of Russian “Formula Student 2014”
competition.
December 10th, 2013 foreign judges and experts from Great Britain and
Germany carried out their reports in front of participants of the conference.
Also presentations of Russian and foreign “Formula Student” teams were hold,
and there was a “round table” for discussing the organization of a Russian
competition stage in Moscow in 2014.
December 11th, 2013 master-classes were organized, in which experts in
race cars projecting, logistics, marketing and PR took part. Also competitive
examination in 4 nominations was announced, and the winner was determined
by number of voices of the conference guests.
FDR MAMI team took prize in 2 nominations: “Team of a dream” and “The
most interesting master-class”.

Since 2007 FDR MAMI team has been creating race cars in Moscow State University of
Mechanical Engineering. Team consists of students with different specializations: Innovation
Theory, Combustion Turbine Units, Management and Informatics in Technical Systems,
Organization Management, Land Transport Vehicles, etc. During one year team members
create a race car, and their work is based on received knowledge. All job goes in “Formula
Student” laboratory, that is equipped with necessary tools and instruments. In projecting
engineers use latest techniques and software. Owing to experience, gained at the University,
participants of “Formula Student” project become successful at labor market.

From the first year of team’s existence we have been supported
by MOTUL Company, which has been developing and providing
lubricating materials of premium class for last 160 years.
Motul group left behind existing standards by using nontraditional
technologies like “Double esters” of 300V range for automobiles.
MOTUL Company gives us all needed lubricants from MOTUL E1 Wash
& Wax for car exterior to MOTUL 300V 10W40 Road Racing sport engine oils.

“Composite”
Holding Company
For the first time body of a race car of Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering
team was made of carbon fiber. “Composite” Holding Company provided us 250 m of
carbon fabrics and prepregs, produced by “Prepreg-SKM”, as part of sponsorship. Using
carbon cloth and prepregs allowed our team to substantially reduce car weight and
increase body’s strength.
Owing to the new body, the car is quicker, safer and more
maneuverable.

NTN SNR Company
The biggest developer and producer of bearings in the world – NTN SNR Company and “Formula
Student MAMI” team announced about their partnership. March 7th, 2013 representatives of NTN
SNR visited “Formula Student” laboratory in Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering.
Giving production of NTN to the team was a cause for this event.
Partnership with “Formula Student MAMI” team will give to the company a possibility to support
students, which have an educational aim to get experience in designing automobiles.
