Congratulations to our 2015 graduates! These graduates have been great to work with and
have earned over $65,000 in scholarships! We will miss them and wish them the very
best in their futures.
Thank you to all our local scholarship sponsors. With the cost of higher education today,
our students can really use these extra dollars to help them on their way. The community
support our students receive throughout their high school years in all the activities we
offer is outstanding.
Once again we have summer projects and maintenance to complete. During the last week
in June, we are scheduled to do the annual refinishing of our gym floor. It may take a
couple weeks for the floor to dry. Please contact us prior to planning any activities in the
gym during this time.
We have hired a music teacher by the name of Christian Giddings. Mr. Giddings just
completed his Master’s Degree at the University of Maine. Last month he visited our
school for a day and had the opportunity to visit with students and teachers. The
following day he decided to join our teaching staff in Scranton. We are excited about the
opportunity to work with Mr. Giddings. His credentials support the many talents we need
to keep our music program at the caliber we are used to.
Please remember that on Tuesday, June 2, we will be conducting our school board
election at the school. You will also be voting on whether you want the Scranton
School Board minutes published in the Bowman County Pioneer for the next two
years. In prior years we have asked you to vote against publishing the minutes in the
Bowman Pioneer and I recommend a “NO” vote again. There are two reasons why I
say vote “no”. One, it is very expensive to have these minutes published in the
paper, and secondly, we feel we can reach more patrons by putting the minutes in
our school’s monthly newsletter.
Next fall school is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Football practice
begins on August 10, and Volleyball practice begins on August 17. By the time school
starts, we will be playing games and activities will be well under way.

28 Title 1 News: The annual review meeting of Scranton’s Title 1 program was held on May 19, 2015 at 3:30 P.M. in the Teacher’s Lounge. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the progress of the Title 1 Students being served as well as the success of the program. There were eleven teachers present. The selection process for reading will be based on three of the following criteria: retention, previous placement, modified grading, Istation vocabulary, Istation comprehension, San Diego Quick, final reading grade, and Dolch Word lists. Teachers felt that the variety of assessments would help target those children most in need of service. The assessment for Title 1 Reading will be given three times per year and include the above mentioned assessments. Early intervention is done to give assistance to those in most need. It is not meant to be a label. All students in each grade are processed with three types of assessments. Based on these scores, the students are assigned points and those in greatest need have priority and can be placed into the program. The parent permission form is then sent home to inform those that their students qualify for Title 1 support. A survey was sent home to parents to assess their opinion regarding the Title 1 program. Of the 12 surveys sent out, eleven were returned; all with positive feedback. A teacher survey was sent out and all were returned. Communication is done with the classroom teachers by utilizing weekly planning sheets, conversations, pink notes, and monthly staff meetings. Parents have access to the school compact, involvement policy, and parents’ rights at the fall parent‐teacher conferences. The Title 1 teacher attends individual conferences with the classroom teachers to simplify scheduling for the parents. Email and faculty websites are also used for communications.
