Randy Mayo and his son, Bryce,
concentrate on fractions during Valentine “Sweet Centers” in Rebecca
Frisby’s third grade on February 12.

Rams Upset Centralia Orphans
Logan Murphy of the Mt. Vernon Rams holds the ball in front of Daniel Westbrook
during the Rams 26-20 upset of the Centralia Orphans at Changnon Gymnasium.
Centralia never led in the game and actually took the air out of the ball with the
game tied. Mt. Vernon came into the game tied for last place in the South-7
Conference while Centralia came into the game in first place. The Rams improved
to 9-14 while the Orphans fell to 18-6 overall. Both teams are winding down their
regular season and getting set for the Class 3A Regional Tourney in Salem.

From the desk of Pastor Ferris
Is Christianity,
A Poverty
Religion?
A man told me the other
day, that it’s wrong for ministers to be paid a good income. He said that ministers
shouldn’t be paid like they
are in those large ministries.
I said, why do you feel that
way? He said, it sets a bad
example and makes people
think ministers are in it
for the money. I said, how
much of an income should
a minster make? Reminding
him that full time ministers
are on call 24 hours a day
7 days a week 365 days a
year. They are available for
emergencies,
counseling,
weddings, and funerals, visiting the sick, visiting in the
home, teaching bible studies, and performing Sunday
morning services, mentoring
others for ministry, board
meetings, and committee
meetings along with community outreach. Now let’s
take one at a time, shall we.
How much would it cost to
call an emergency service
to come to your home to
help you, several hundred
dollars? How much does it
cost to see a paid councilor
an hour $75.00 dollars an
hour? If you were to go a
minister whose church you
don’t attend, how much
would it cost you for him
to perform the rehearsal
and the wedding $150,
$200 dollars? The minister
that teaches you the eternal word of God giving you
hope, building your faith, in-

creasing your knowledge

about your eternal destiny,
what is that worth? What
would a private teacher cost
an hour, an expert in the
field for tutoring you $35.00

over a business conducting
a board meeting to give direction and a vision for that
business, what do you think
they make a year, $50,000,
$100,000, $200,000 dollars?
He said, I just think they
don’t need to have the nicest
cars and nicest homes, they
are supposed to be servants.
I said, in the business that
your in aren’t you a servant
to the business and the customers it serves. Should you
have the nice home and cars
you have and you don’t help
people now and prepare
them for eternity. In parting; I said, it’s a shame that
the worse employers seem to
be in the church. They want
everything I mentioned earlier from their minister and
more. But give in return like
it is worth nothing. Apostle
Paul said, “I have sowed
unto you spiritual things,
should I not receive of you
physical things?” May God
help us to see the value of
those who watch over our
souls? Christianity is not
about poverty, It is about an
abundant life in every way.

Primary Center third grader Jayon Malone of Michelle Lee’s class shares a poem
he wrote when he and his classmates learned about five types of poetry--similes
with the five feelings; biography; Haiku, shape, and diamante--during a recent

parents, guardians, and grandparents could listen to the young authors read their
work. Following the presentations, guests enjoyed refreshments as they browsed
through the display in the hallway outside Lee’s room that featured other poems
the children wrote.

Jacob James (center) displays the mask he designed as classmates Kevin Perkins (left) and Shawn Marshall put the finishing
touches on theirs. The boys and their classmates, students of Ryann Markus, created their interpretations of the main character

Aaron Larson describes his blinking notifier for deaf people to schoolmates Peyton Owens, James McGovern, Jameziah Lesure,

Add string beans and sauté, stirring, about 1 minute. Mix in corn and tomatoes, pressing them
gently to release their juices, and cook, stirring occasionally, about 2 minutes. Add additional
lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, if desired, and stir. Remove from heat and distribute evenly
between two plates. With a spatula, transfer fish on top of vegetables. Serve immediately.
