Urban Style Step Dance Workshop
Inspired by elements of heritage and cultural diversity found in urban areas, Montreal-based [ZØGMA]
merges dance, music and song into powerful rhythmic works, creating a new aesthetic of Quebec
folklore. Incorporating the rhythm, images and characters of a city, Sokalo is a show that moves – both
literally and figuratively. Featuring lively music composed by Julien Roy, eight performers offer a
rhythmic experience that invites the audience to travel along with them. Sokalo is all about urban
rhythms that imitate life.
In this percussive workshop, participants will learn the basics
of this contemporary style of step dancing which blends step
dance and body percussion – starting at the feet then gradually
moving through the rest of the body, allowing it to become a full
instrument. Working with specific rhythms and poly-rhythms, this
active approach will keep participants moving throughout the
entire class. This workshop is for anyone who wants to have fun!

Meatloaf: Bat Out of Hell

Remember when you used to listen to an entire album? Classic Albums Live
does. This group of skilled musicians recreates the greatest albums of the
’60s and ’70s live on stage – note for note, cut for cut.
Meat Loaf’s major label debut, Bat Out of Hell, is one of the best-selling
albums in the history of recorded music. Considered one of the most
influential and iconic albums of its time, the 1977 release combines
elements of hard rock, pop, theatre and opera. Bat Out of Hell includes hard
rock staples like “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,”“Two Out of Three Ain’t
Bad” and of course, the title track. This album forever changed the way the
world thinks about rock ‘n’ roll.

Bon Débarras
Friday, January 16
Bon Débarras unites the worlds of music, dance and poetry through a
collaboration between Montreal artists Dominic Desrochers, Jean-François
Dumas and Cédric Dind-Lavoie. These performers bring together a fusion of
Quebecois folk music, traditional step-dancing and global influences for a
show that’s full of fun and inventive energy. Using instruments like the guitar,
banjo, mandolin, accordion, washboard and harmonica, and integrating foot

Originally created for Ballet BC, this ballet is a powerful
and poetic full-company piece by rising European dance

full of imagery and adventure, a dazzling landscape of
movement and ideas.
Walking Mad
Johan Inger, formerly Artistic Director of Cullberg
Ballet and a member of the Royal Swedish Ballet and
Netherlands Dance Theatre has created a breathtaking
work for nine dancers. Set to Ravel’s Bolero, Walking
Mad reflects Socrates belief that “our greatest blessings
come to us by way of madness.”

Good Lovelies and Old Man Luedecke

Funny and upbeat with just a pinch of sass, the Good Lovelies’ three-part harmonies, constant
instrument swapping and witty stage banter have enlivened the folk music landscape since
they joined forces in 2006. The artists behind this Toronto trio (Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and
Sue Passmore) excel at combining lighthearted songwriting with their irresistibly buoyant
dispositions for a blithe brand of folk music that has universal appeal.
Based in Chester, N.S., Old Man Luedecke has a cunning lyrical flair, tenderly pushing the

Under the direction of conductor Richard Hornsby, the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra offers a fresh take on
Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, a composition inspired by classic fairy tales including Sleeping Beauty and Tom
Thumb. The orchestra, a blend of accomplished amateur and professional musicians, will be joined by pianist
Heather Dunham. Local group Peekaboo Shadows Theatre will add an extra element to the performance
using the ancient and mystical art of shadow puppetry. This is the perfect show for families, and an excellent
way to introduce children to the power and presence of orchestral music.

career, exploring lofty themes like abandonment and isolation. The Wall

Lifeboat

Sunday, April 19
Lifeboat is the extraordinary true story of Bess Walder and Beth Cummings,
two teenage girls who spent 19 terrifying hours in the waters of the freezing
Atlantic Ocean on an upturned lifeboat. On Friday, September 13, 1940, a
ship named The City of Benares set sail from Liverpool for Canada. On board
were 90 evacuees escaping the relentless bombing and dangers of war-torn
Britain. Four days into the crossing, the ship was torpedoed and sank. Only
11 of the evacuees survived, including Beth and Bess.
Performed by Catherine Wheels Theatre Company (UK), this award-winning
play tells a story of courage, survival and enduring friendship that inspires
audiences of all ages.

caricatures, Walsh brings the same wit to her stand-up comedy. On stage, she
expertly navigates the rage brought on by pop culture, politics and capitalism
through her vibrant and constantly emerging characters. Special guest Sharron
Matthews will offer her own unique take on pop culture, serving up her signature

Fredericton this fall to tell the stories of our city. This
transmedia storytelling initiative celebrates people
and places through the gathering, mapping and
theatrical presentation of our living memories of main
streets and downtowns.
Beginning in September, theatre and media company
FIXT POINT will gather stories through interviews
with community stakeholders, local heroes, business
owners and residents. Once the information is
compiled, these collected memories will be presented
back to the community through a performance
installation. Fredericton’s site-specific story will go
on to become part of a larger oral history as part of
a multimedia performance of The Tale of a Town –
Canada, preserving our stories and sharing them with
the rest of our country for years to come.

This holiday season, DuffleBag Theatre brings
the timeless story of Peter Pan to life, with lots
of hilarious twists along the way! DuffleBag’s
fractured fairy tales are an annual favourite, full
of spontaneous fun and audience involvement.

entertains and engages young audiences using
puppets, music and special effects to create a
delicate and poetic language. The Star Keeper is
a compelling piece of universal theatre without
words and without borders.
