appy New Year! As I make my list of New Year’s resolutions, taking time to be creative is right up there, along with
spending more time at the gym other things that are important to me. Just as working out and eating right make us feel
good physically; being creative makes us feel good emotionally. I recently read an article in the Huffington Post that
said it is scientifically proven that creative expression and
overall well-being are closely connected, and that creative
people tend to be happier than those who aren’t. Apparently
creative work causes us to secrete dopamine, a hormone that can make us feel
absorbed and fulfilled. This makes sense to me and I bet it does to you, too. After
all, doesn’t it feel great to plan and work on a new quilt or sewing project? If it
is for yourself you get the pleasure of enjoying the finished results and if it is for
someone else, what is better than to see the look of joy on the recipient’s face?
So…with that in mind, we have exactly what you need for a creative start to your
New Year’s quilting within the pages of this issue. To inspire your creativity, three
designers share the process involved in creating Global Threads, our cover quilt.
Brightly-colored quilts like Anne Deister’s Rhythm & Blues, Cynthia Muir’s Horizon Charm and Elizabeth Dackson’s Double Flip and are sure to brighten any
winter day, and featured designer Ebony Love shares her tips for using die cuts
with her equally cheerful Geese Crossing quilt. Your favorite baby can benefit
from your creativity and stay warm too, when you make Elaine Schmidt’s cute
Car Seat Tent and Tag Blanket.

by it during this issue’s photo shoot! Dr. Lindsey
and Kathy Ma graciously allowed us to use their
fabulous home, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. In
addition to their home being beautiful, with exquisite period details, the Ma’s also are art collectors,
as you will see in the background of some of the
