“Thanksgiving is a catalysis! In chemistry, a catalysis is a
substance added to chemical solution to accelerate the desired
effect. It can be removed at the end of the process without
affecting the final product. Thanksgiving is that kind of an agent!
Add it to anything you are doing and it accelerates the desired
outcome. Make Thanksgiving a part of any formula in your life
and it will have a dramatic effect! Add Thanksgiving to your
prayers. Paul said in Philippians 4, “in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made
known to God.” Add Thanksgiving to your life and "whatever
you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by Him." When you put
Thanksgiving in, everything changes!” - Dr. David Jeremiah,

The Story Behind the Song
by Jeremy Smith,
host of “Morning Praise”
here have been many Christmas Carols
written throughout the years, but one of the
most famous of modern day was originally
written as part of a Christmas play. A man mostly
known for his comedy, Mark Lowry, wrote the lyrics
to the song “Mary, Did You Know” in 1984 when
his pastor asked him to write a Christmas program
for his church. The music didn't come until years
later when Buddy Greene composed the notes that
would finally create the famous song in 1991.
When coming up with the lyrics for “Mary, Did
You Know,” Lowry said he tried to imagine having
a conversation with Mary, the mother of Jesus. “I
wondered if she realized those little hands were the
same hands that scooped out oceans and formed
rivers. I just tried to put into words the unfathomable,” he said. “I started thinking of the questions I would have for her if I were to sit down and
have coffee with Mary. What was it like raising God?
What did you know? What didn't you know?"
Since the original version was recorded in 1991,
a number of different artists have performed their
own versions of the song on Christmas albums
throughout the years. These include: Country Artist
Kenny Rogers and Christian Artists Crystal Lewis,
The Gaither Vocal Band, Mark Harris, Buddy
Greene and many others.

Ruth Harris, of Wetumpka, has listened to Faith Radio for more than 20
years. She said it has made Christmas
more meaningful for her. “It just reenforces everything about Christmas,”
she says. “There’s a wonder that Christ

earth to die for me. Faith Radio gives me
hope during this time and it makes me
kinder toward my fellow man because it
gives me a Kingdom perspective.”
But for some, Christmas can be a difficult and lonely time of the year. That’s
when Faith Radio tries to bring encouragement through our programming.

to maybe a great loss,” said 71-year-old
listener Wayne Dozier. “During this

a year in review...
A
by Russell Dean, General Manager
s one begins to assess the year
2013, it is necessary to review
what makes it a great year as
opposed to a good year. Faith Radio
exists to assist people in knowing Jesus
and to help make Him known. With that
being proclaimed, we understand that
much of what we do is coming along
side people and churches to help them
fulfill their calling from God.
Let me present a few examples.
During the first quarter of 2013, we supported the events of many churches and
ministries. The S.A.L.T. Apologetics
conference was held at First Baptist
Church in Montgomery. The Urban
Alternative’s Dr. Tony Evans took center
stage at the Ambassador’s Conference at
Vaughn Forest Church in Montgomery.
Billy Irvin interviewing Dr. Tony Evans at the
Ambassador’s Conference at Vaughn Forest Church.
Kathy Troccoli brought her Among
Friends Women’s Conference to First
Baptist Montgomery. At the annual
Radio for Red Cross blood drive, Faith
Radio once again led all River Region
radio stations in getting people out to
give blood.

While our effort is to equip those
who listen to be God’s Ambassadors, we
also need to be equipped ourselves.
Therefore, many of us attend the
National Religious Broadcaster’s meeting
in Nashville. There we learn new and
various ways to attract listeners and to
reach those who do not know Jesus.
The National Day of Prayer is
always a big event in the Faith Radio listening area. Faith Radio staff members

Prayer celebration at Montgomery’s Capitol Building.
were in various parts of the area participating in the local events. Some of our
staff members were actually on the programs while others participated in
prayer. Praying Across Alabama was also
a similar event. Civic and church leaders
gathered in their communities to invite
God to change their people and leaders.
They prayed people would pursue holiness and seek God for guidance.
Big Mo is always a delight to see during the heat of the summer. Seeing Big
Mo means it is time for Family Faith
Night with the Montgomery Biscuits.
This is a highlight of our year. Shelley E.
Johnson did a great job in ministering to
the large crowd in word and song.
What a joy it was to also experience
our listeners at the Faith Radio Golf
Tournament held at Arrowhead Country
Club. John Sadie and his staff at
Arrowhead did an excellent job of taking
care of our guests. Two hundred people
Faith Radio’s Ministry Magazine - Fall 2013
gathered on a beautiful September day
for us to say thank you to those who
believe in what God has called us to do.
Without our loyal Faith Radio partners,
how would we be able to broadcast 24
hours a day and 7 days a week?
As we moved into Fall, October
brought a time to recognize those who
lead us in our churches. Pastor and Staff
Appreciation month allows us to encourage you to remember those who serve
sacrificially in dedicated service to Jesus.
First Baptist Prattville celebrated
their 175th Anniversary. Part of that cel-
ebration consisted of the God of All
Glory Tour concert which featured classic
artists: Twila Paris, Steve Green, Larnelle
Harris and Wayne Watson. What a night!
Things do not slow down during the
holidays either. The National Peanut
Festival in Dothan, the Pike Road Arts &
Crafts event and a Montgomery Family
Christmas will provide many opportunities for Faith Radio to be salt and light in
the community.
Thank you for allowing us to fulfill our
calling by supporting this ministry through
your prayers and financial support.
T
Through the Praying Across Alabama events, Faith Radio encouraged listeners from every county
and gathered with them on courthouse steps to intercede for our public servants and leaders.

A recap of the Golf Tournament
by Billy Irvin,
Director of Ministry Relations
Faith Radio’s Ministry Magazine - Fall 2013
he 14th annual Faith Radio Golf
Tournament was a beautiful day
filled with great fun, delicious food,
sweet fellowship and drives down the fairway!
The 44 golf teams enjoyed eating Conecuh
sausage and Blue Bell ice cream between
holes at Arrowhead Country Club. This event
would not have been a hole-in-one without
our 75 generous sponsors and a host of
servant volunteers. We are so thankful for
each person who played a role in Faith
Radio's only fundraising event of the year. It
costs our broadcast ministry $2,000 per day to
operate, and the proceeds from the Golf
Tournament helped fuel our ministry for a little
more than 20 days. Thank you for partnering
with us to broadcast the life-changing
message of God's love and truth!

“The Meeting House” Helps Keep His Birth in Focus
There was a season in my
marriage when I played a
supporting role in the
ministry that God gave
to my wife, Beth. She
taught seminars at
local
churches
about how to have
a Christ-centered
Christmas, and
she encouraged
ladies to incorporate the significance of His
birth into their
family Christmas
celebrations. In
addition to several
seminars in the River
Region, we also traveled to a number of different cities. We learned
that ladies desired ideas to
make their celebration of
Christmas more reflective of Christ.
In that spirit, I want to use The
Meeting House to help make your
Christmas celebrations more Christ-centered. Along with uplifting Christmas
music, I have featured a number of special guests who have provided some great

Giving Gifts like the Giver
by Billy Irvin, Director of Ministry Relations
“God’s goal for your life is for you to
LOOK LIKE HIM.”
ur ministry is
broadcasting
God's Word all
day every day so that you
have countless opportunities to continue growing
into His image. On a daily
basis, God models His generous character to us.
Everything we have, including our days, is a gift from
the Lord and He wants us
to be generous too. There
are more promises in the
Bible about giving than
anything else because God
wants us to be givers like
Him. The Bible says in
Proverbs 11:25, “a generous man will prosper; he
who refreshes others will
himself be refreshed.”
Did you know that by
giving a gift to Faith Radio
you are refreshing the souls
of others with God's reviving truth? Each time you
model Christ's generosity
and give to Faith Radio you are helping others grow into a model of Christ. Our ministry depends on your gifts so that we can continue shaping people into His image.
Would you consider giving a financial year-end gift to Faith Radio?
Your investment will make a Kingdom impact and the Lord will bless you for
using your gifts for His work. A pastor recently said on Faith Radio, “you don't wait
until you have more before you give to God – you give now so you get to become
more in God.” Every day God blesses you with a gift. You become the gift that
blesses others when you give it back to Him.

A memorial gift is a meaningful way to honor someone at the time of death by recognizing that person’s
Christian faith and testimony. Similarly, an honorarium is a tangible way of honoring a living person’s
testimony. We are thankful for individuals listed below who choose to honor friends and loved ones through
