Celebrations, Fairs, and Festivals!

The T.A.R.P. Review is taking a break this edition from our core
services series. Keep watching for the “R” is for referral issue in the
future!
This edition of “The T.A.R.P. Review” is going to focus on all of the
outreach efforts T.A.R.P. has participated in lately and what we will be
doing in the months to come. We believe the best way we can help
people is by letting them know that we are here when they need us.
With creative outreach and by becoming a presence in all of our
communities, T.A.R.P. will be able to serve more people than ever.
Serving Benton, Dickson, Henry, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery,
Stewart, and Weakley Counties in West and Middle Tennessee.
2012 ADA Celebration
This year’s ADA celebration was a huge success! We had over 40 entries in the car
and motorcycle show, 50 volunteers, and close to 1000 attendees at the event.
People won hundreds of prizes throughout the day for participating in bingo, the
cakewalk, and kids games. Children bounced the day away in our bounce castle and
the young, and young at heart, gave live performances in the karaoke room.
Volunteers greeted people at the door; cooked, wrapped, and sold hundreds of
hotdogs; and called bingo numbers for hours.
A great time was had by all!

Fairs and Festivals
T.A.R.P. had an information table set up in
the Commercial Building during the Henry
County Fair. We were able to talk to
hundreds of people about T.A.R.P. and
explain what we do. We also passed out
around 400 coloring books, (pictured
below), that we developed, to teach
children about people with disabilities.
T.A.R.P. will also be at other fairs and festivals in the counties we serve.

September 15th: Humphreys County Fair
September 22nd: Houston County Fair

T.A.R.P. Staff will be attending the annual Association of Programs for
Rural Independent Living (APRIL) conference in October. T.A.R.P. staff
and board attend many trainings and conferences throughout the
year to learn how to best serve our consumers. The APRIL conference
is a big one. Most of the counties we serve are rural communities.
Rural communities like ours have completely different needs than
urban communities, like Nashville or Memphis. Since T.A.R.P. is the
only rural Center for Independent Living in Tennessee, we use the
conference to network with other rural Centers and learn, through
their successes and failures, what may work in our area.
T.A.R.P. would like to thank everyone who helped make our biggest
