Greetings Ladies,
We had our meeting on April 9th, and we had 71 members
present. We proposed Maureen Cauffield and reinstated
Kathleen Papson. We presented a check in the amount of
$8,000 to our new Exalted Ruler, George Pines. We wish lots
of good luck to George and the new officers.
We had to borrow 10 card tables from the K of C because
Walmart's truck did not deliver the 10 tables we needed for
our card party. However, thanks to Carol Mayor, who used her
car, we purchased 8 of these tables when the finally arrived,
and thanks to my husband. Bill, we purchased 2 more from
Walmart down on 40. We now have them in our room.
We are forced to raise our prices to $ 18 for members and $20
for guests. Ths prices will go into effect atour May 5!l Black
and White affair.
Please make note of our calendar for this year: June 9 - Luau;
Sept. 22 - Harvest Ball; Oct. 2-3 - setting up for the
Rummage/Bak sale and Oct. 4-5 to sell; Oct. 20 - Halloween;
Nov. 13 a possible card game; Dec. 10 - Auxiliary Christmas
Party.
We are asking our members to come forward and help us out
as far as chairing these events. We need HELP!!!
We changed our Fashion Show to March 11. 2008 in order to
show spring fashions which will feature Lily Pad Fashions
from Melbourne. Lily Pad was here a few years ago and
everyone liked their merchandise.
If anyone wishes 100 club tickets and cannot make the
meetings, please mail your request with a check and a
stamped, self-addressed envelope to Joan King at 4 FlinlSOlie
Ct., PalmCoast, FL 32137.
Our 100 club was won by Frances Collins/Velma Fenton and
Dagmar George. Our 50/50 was one by Nita Ilenkle and Jean
Burns.
See you at the meeting.
Sincerely
Joan M. Cole. President
guest speaker. He will be speaking to us during Good of
Administrators Schedule
the Order about the crime situation in Palm Coast.

Finally, I am looking for two people to help the Lodge in
new endeavors. One is for a soccer shoot. If you know
anything about soccer, please contact me and let's see if
we can start this new project for the children of the
community. The second request is for a member who has
some knowledge of web sites. Our site has not been
updated since Betty Elman was the ER

THIS & THAT by Jack Konrad
My Mom used to cut chicken, chop
eggs and spread mayo on the same
cutting board with the same knife and no
bleach, but we didn't seem to get food
poisoning.
My Mom used to defrost
hamburger on the counter AND I used to
eat it raw,
sometimes we
made
an
indentation in the center of a raw patty
and dropped a raw egg-yoke into it. This
was called
'Steak tartare'
and
was
a
popular dish.... Our school sandwiches
were wrapped in wax paper in a brown
paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I
can't remember getting e coli. Almost all
of us would have rather gone swimming
in the lake instead of the places we went
to cool off. (Remember the white eels) no
beach
closures
then.
The
term
cell
phone would have conjured up a phone
in a jail cell, and a pager was the school
PA system. We all took gym, not PE and
risked permanent injury with a pair of
high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead
of having cross-training athletic shoes
with air cushion soles and built in light
reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but
they must have happened because they
tell
us
how much
safer we are
now.
Flunking gym was not an option,-even for
stupid kids! I guess PE must be much
harder than gym. Speaking of school, we
all sang the national anthem, and staying
in detention after school caught all sorts
of negative attention. We must have had
horribly damaged psyches. What an
archaic health system we had then.
spanked again when we got home. I recall
Billy Larkin from next-door coming over
and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just
before he fell off. Little did his Mom know
that she could have owned our house?

Instead, she picked him up and swatted
him for being such a goof. It was a
neighborhood run amuck. To top it off, not
a single person I knew had ever been told
that they were from a dysfunctional family.
How could we possibly have known that?
We needed to get into group therapy and
anger management classes? We were
obviously so duped by so many societal
ills, that we didn't even notice that the
entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How
did
we
ever

Remember school nurses? Ours wore a
hat and everything. (The hat was to show
her collage of graduation) I thought that I
was supposed to accomplish something
before I was allowed to be proud of
myself... I just can't recall how bored we
were without computers, Play Station,
Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable
stations. Oh yeah! ... And where was the
Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got
that bee sting? I could have been killed!
We played 'king of the hill' on piles of
gravel left on vacant construction sites,
and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out
