Stoney Creek Hospitality celebrates history and growth
Event pays tribute to the company’s 20th year in business and opening of its 14th property
Stoney Creek Hospitality, which operates four hotels in Iowa, paid tribute to the company’s 20th
anniversary on Thursday, noting two decades of a ‘people first’ guest service commitment. The event
also celebrated the grand opening of its 14th property, located in Independence, Missouri.
“Recognizing the Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center in Independence was the ideal time and
setting to reflect on how far our company has grown in the last 20 years,” said Kim Drautz, president and chief operating officer of
Stoney Creek Hospitality. “We’re a regional brand, but have solidified our spot in the hospitality market, and we look forward to
continued expansion, innovation and putting customers first in our next 20 years.”
The Stoney Creek 20th anniversary event featured a ribbon cutting of the new property, remarks by founder and CEO Jim Thompson,
and a video, which showcased the history of the company and uniqueness Stoney Creek hotels bring to the market. An estimated
350 people attended the event.
Stoney Creek operates the Historic Park Inn in Mason City, two Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Centers, located in Des Moines
and Sioux City, and Stoney Creek Inn in Waukon.
Stoney Creek GMs: Stoney Creek general managers Steve Reed, Peoria; Denise Browning, Moline; Keith Schaffer, Quincy; Ryan Hutchison, Des Moines; Kerra Flatt, St. Joseph; Tracey Erickson,
Wausau; Jim Thompson, Founder/CEO; Missy Herold, Wausau; Katie Kellogg, La Crosse; Jenn Pavone, Sioux City; and Carl Drautz, Independence celebrate the 20th anniversary of Stoney Creek
Hospitality in Independence, MO, last week. (Not pictured: Melissa Leach, Mason City)
After 29 years of guiding our mission, David Runyon will retire and Carson
Eggland will begin serving as executive director. Whether or not you
personally know them, you are invited to the open house to celebrate their
commitment and to share their passion for promoting the health and wellbeing of children and adults.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Corn Days is fast approaching and we are in need of volunteers. In order for this event to
run effectively and efficiently, several volunteers are needed to handle necessary tasks to
ensure that the event runs smoothly. It is a fact that volunteers are critical to the success
of community events.
Friendly people with good organizational skills who are willing to volunteer two to three
hours are encouraged to sign up. Anyone interested in helping provide this important
service can call Stephanie Dugan at 563-568-4110 or email [email protected] that they will be available
to volunteer August 13th-16th.
Discover the Possibilities hosted by Mosaic

Save Money & Energy
Have a small commercial energy evaluation!
Take that first step to saving money, energy and
improving the comfort of your business with a small
commercial energy evaluation. Black Hills Energy can
help get you started by providing in 2015 a FREE energy
evaluation.
An energy evaluation is one of the first steps to understanding your
businesses energy usage, as well its overall health and performance. A
trained evaluator provides business owners with a list of money and energy
saving steps, explains how and why your building is costing you money, then
prioritizes steps to take to knock down those costs over the long haul and
provides you with rebates available from Black Hills Energy to help defray
those costs. Contact your local Black Hills Energy office for more Information
Community Flower Pots
Community Action/Pops Produce would
like to inform Waukon Businesses that
this year’s community flower pots will
have a theme of red, white, and blue
flowers. They would like to ask Waukon
Merchants who will be doing their own flowering pots in front of their
stores to please try and honor this year’s red, white and blue theme.

Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation and Development
(RC&D) is excited to announce a new Allamakee County trout
-fishing guide. The pocket-sized publication, funded through
the Allamakee County Community Foundation will provide
anglers with information about Allamakee County’s 15 spring
-fed creeks that compromise over 77 miles of fishable water.
To help local and visiting anglers interested in fishing for
trout, the new publication features a large detailed roadmap
highlighting the publicly accessible trout water to ensure that
proper navigation to each trout stream is possible. The guide
also includes 10 individual trout stream maps that display
walk-in fishing access points, parking lots, campsites, trout stiles, park amenities,
public land, stream descriptions and stream length. The publication looks to
address common misconceptions and valuable information about Iowa’s fishing
regulations, stream classifications and laws pertaining to public and private land
fishing. Information about guide services, trout stocking and common fly hatches
are featured in the guide as well.
