SOARING HIGHER TOGETHER
Fairborn “Spark” - a Symbol of
Growth and Development
Over the past year,
the City of Fairborn
has embarked on a
strategic initiative to
revitalize its brand that
reflects the positive
changes and growth
within the community.
The “spark” in
Fairborn’s logo
symbolizes an ignition
for growth and
development. The
bottom line represents
a starting point in
which other lines
then rise from and
soar higher than the
previous line. These five
lines, which converge
and diverge, also form
a wing, continuing the
connection Fairborn
has to its heritage in
flight.
in bringing new
investment to the
Fairborn Community.
Fairborn’s growth and
improvements in recent
years have made a
significant impact on
the community with
blighted structures
being removed to new
housing developments
coming and expanding
in the city. The
Fairborn Development
Corporation serves
as the economic
development arm for
the city and
has also been
more
aggressive
While the existing
logo will remain within
our park system, in
the coming months,
the new logo will be
more visible in the city
through its marketing
materials, letterhead,
emails, business cards
and other documents.
The water tower near
I-675 will display the
new branding and
over time, the logo
will be added to new
city vehicles, signage,
and apparel as old
equipment is replaced.
With all the great
things happening in
Fairborn, reaching
higher and attracting
new development truly
makes Fairborn a city
in motion.

Business Spotlight:
Reza’s Roast, a 3rd Wave Coffee Company
Coffee has certainly come a
long way since the 1960s when
brewing in home and at work
started becoming popular. Then,
in the late ‘60s, coffee houses
began popping up and popularity
with dark roasts, specialty drinks,
blended frozen coffees, and even
espressos piqued the interest of
consumers. By the 1990s, coffee
drinkers became more distinctive
and showed an interest in the
character of coffee, where it’s
from, how it is harvested and
traded, and even who roasts it.
Coffee drinkers are learning more
about the coffee they enjoy and
are gaining a new appreciation
for it in this 3rd Wave coffee
movement.
The movement is becoming
increasingly popular around the
country and right here in the
Dayton region. This is where local
businesses like Reza’s Roast in
Fairborn are making a big impact
in today’s world.
Reza’s Roast is a coffee roasting
company supplied by directsource and micro-roasts specialty
coffee beans that are sold fresh,
within two weeks of roast date.
Reza’s is not a coffee shop, but
it is a business where coffee
drinkers can purchase freshly
roasted coffee, which is able to
be ground in-house, if needed.
The roastery, located at 611
Yellow Springs-Fairfield Road,
offers light, medium, dark
and espresso roasts of coffee.
Customers are invited to try a
sample, take a tour of the facility
and learn about the history of
coffee.
Hours of operation are currently
Fridays, 9 am - 1 pm; Saturdays,
9 am - 1 pm, and by appointment.
Customers can also sign up for
delivery or a subscription service
by visiting rezasroast.com. Reza’s

There are various times in life
when renting a unit may be a
more optimal choice than buying
a residence. A person may be
moving out on his or her own for
the first time, a residence may be
in a building phase and temporary
housing is needed, or even a short
term relocation for school or a job
may require a temporary home. No
matter the reason, tenants should
always consider the length of time
a rental is needed along with size/
room necessity.

Who Is Responsible -
Water & Sewer Lateral Repairs
The City of Fairborn Water and
Sewer Division on occasion
receives calls regarding where
the line of responsibility is
drawn in terms of repairs to
water service lines and sewer
service lines.
These two laterals are separate
and as such have two different
“lines” of responsibility.
For water lines, the City is
responsible from the water main
which side of the curb stop the
problem is occurring prior to a
plumber being contacted.
For sewer laterals, every part of
the lateral from the house until
it reaches the sewer main is the
responsibility of the property
owner. There is no shut off as
each lateral only serves that
particular house or building.
Typical sewer line issues
include: roots, stoppages from
A community-wide clean-up day is
scheduled for Saturday, September
10, to get Fairborn looking its best
for both the 20th anniversary of the
Air Force Marathon and Debate 16.
Details will be available through the
city’s website, ci.fairborn.oh.us, as
the date draws nearer.
Citizens who wish to volunteer for
the Debate16 event may email
[email protected], and
include their contact information,
and any special skills that may
be useful. Activities may include
hosting a watch party or serving on
a welcome committee.
Citizens can also keep up to date
on the political season
by downloading a free
app, 2016 Election App,

primaries, and all useful
information in this presidential race.

to the curb stop. Whenever
water needs to be turned on or
off, the City has access to the
water turn off valve. From the
curb stop all the way through
the home with the exception of
the meter itself, responsibility
of the water line falls on the
property owner.
Frequent problems for a water
leak include: low pressure, a wet
spot in the yard, or a visible leak
in the house. It is these types
of water leaks that are typically
the responsibility of the
property owner. If a resident
or business owner experiences
a suspected water leak, the
City can assist, if contacted
during normal business hours
of 7 am - 4 pm, by determining
grease or other non-flushable
items, high use of “advertised”
flushable products/wipes, or
an actual pipe breakdown.
The Water and Sewer Division
will respond 24/7 for all sewer
backups to determine whether
the problem is in the private
lateral or the public sewer main.
If the problem is in the lateral,
the customer will be advised to
contact a plumber.
Many of the water and sewer
lines in Fairborn are 70+ years
old. The older a line, the greater
the potential for failure. For
questions about water and
sewer or to reach the Water
and Sewer Division, please call
754.3097.
