January 2015 Hymn of the Month: “You Have Come Down to the
January 2015 Hymn of the Month: “You Have Come Down
to the Lakeshore”
(Hymn #817 in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship)
This hymn was written by Cesáreo Gabaráin, a priest and composer,
from Spain. According to hymnary.org, Cesareo's liturgical music is
perhaps the most sung and known in the Spanish speaking language in
the 20th Century.
As we spend this month looking at the beginning of Jesus' ministry from
his baptism in the Jordan River to the calling of His disciples, we focus
on listening for God's voice and thinking about how we can answer his
call for us. Beautiful words such as "On the sand I have abandoned my
small boat; now with you, I will seek other seas", reminds us to trust in
God's plan and call for us. Through the beauty of the prayerful words
and music, we are encouraged to follow the Lord.
