1. License cost is $116.00 for a 5 year license.
2. Applying for a license for the first time, the applicant must undertake a firearms training and safety course that is compliant with the firearms registrar’s standards. These courses are available through various clubs and authorised firearms instructors.

4. To acquire a firearm you will need a firearms license and a permit to acquire (PTA) for each firearm you intend to acquire.

5. The cost of obtaining a permit to acquire (PTA) a firearm is $20 ($10 for the permit and $10 for the cost of registering the firearm in the name of the holder).
6. The firearms registrar cannot issue a permit to acquire (PTA) for a firearm until 29 days after the date of application. Purchasers then have a further 30 days to make their purchase through a firearms dealer or a club armourer.

1. A Paintball Gun Permit is required and costs $75.00 for a 5 year license.
2. Each Paintball Gun Permit application must contain:

3. Lodging Your Application
1. The Firearms Permit Application form and the Legitimate Reason form are interactive forms. Click on the links above and the forms can be completed electronically. Once completed, print the forms (ensure all sections are completed) and forward the completed forms and any applicable supporting documentation to:
Firearms Registry, Locked Bag 1, Murwillumbah NSW 2484.
4. If you do not currently possess a NSW Firearms license you need to complete a Firearms Safety Awareness Course. To find when the next course is contact either:
a) SSAA on 1300 746 683
b) Firearms Safety Training Council on 02 9486 3077.
5. To purchase a marker you need a Permit To Acquire (PTA). To get one follow the instructions at the following link:

The cost of each PTA is $30.00. The NSW PTA is valid for 3 months.
Expired PTAs cannot be used to purchase a paintball gun. The PTA application requires that you state the make and model of the paintball gun you intend to acquire. 10. You can change the make and model part of the PTA at a later date, so what you write on the PTA does not lock you into buying that particular paintball gun type.

You will need to provide 100 points of identification -­ see the 100 points system to find out how to do this. For each marker you wish to own you will have to apply for a Permit To Acquire (PTA). Send the PD306 form to Firearms Branch either by mail or through your local police station. The cost of each PTA is $27.00.
