AUGUST
2015
ISSUE 161
Thank you Barney Steele & Staff at Canford Cliffs Magna Mazda
From the Editor
Another packed month for us to enjoy
our MX5s. A new venture for us is to
have an evening trying to solve a
Murder Mystery - perhaps the culprit
would like to write about their
experience for the next newsletter?
Have a good August!
We would like to thank Sales Manager Barney Steele and the rest of his staff at
Magna Mazda, Canford Cliffs for the Clubnight they provided at their premises on
July 7th.
Even though they were unsuccessful in obtaining the Mk4 for the evening they still
gave us an entertaining few hours as well as providing some refreshments.
THANK YOU
Congratulations Allan
ORIENT PULLMAN EXPRESS
I am sure Wessex members will join
me in sending congratulations to Allan
Legg who has just been co-opted to the
MX5OC National
Committee as Company Secretary.

Castle Combe Autumn Classic -Saturday 3 October
“Classic” race meeting at Castle Combe in October 2015. I appreciate this is some way ahead but I have to register an interest with
Castle Combe as if we have 4 or more cars attending, we should be able to have a dedicated parking area track side, rather than
having to use the public car parks. We would also get a £5.00 reduction in entrance cost and a free program.
See link for idea of event. http://www.castlecombeautumnclassic.co.uk/
If anyone is interested they can contact me direct and if there are at least 4 I will apply to Castle Combe to see if they will allocate
us an area.

Poole Quay - Cars on the Quay - 3 July 2015
This was the first time that Peter and I had attended this event and we
had arranged to meet at Hils’s house with Pete and Joan. We thought
we had left home with plenty of time to spare but on a very hot and
sunny Friday afternoon it took us nearly two hours to get from Hythe
to her house. We seemed to meet every queue or red light there was.
Luckily for us Hils knows her way around Poole to avoid even more
queues and when we arrived just after 6pm there were already lots of
cars in place and we were directed to the far end of the quay where we
met up with Jean and Richard.
Our cars
Once we had parked it was decided that we would eat before looking
at the cars so we went to a nearby Fish and Chips Restaurant on the
quayside and enjoyed an excellent meal where Claire & Harvey joined
us. After the meal we split up with some wanting to look at the cars
whilst others looked for shoes.
There was a wide variety of cars from early classics like the MG &
Wolseley to modern day classics such as the Jaguars & Ferraris.
On our way back to our cars we realised that we were lucky to be
parked at the far end of the quay and not at the start where the fast
food outlets were attracting the dreaded seagulls and many cars were
covered in their ‘you know what’!
Peter Lee, Richard, Pete & the best side of
Harvey!
One poor couple were busy trying to wipe the bonnet of the car clean
then realised the whole of the drivers front seat was also covered.
It was a very well attended and organised event and the good weather
made it a very enjoyable evening.

Drive Between the Garden Centres
Wednesday 15 July
A good gathering of 10 cars met for coffee at Stewarts Garden Centre, Christchurch. They included Roger Mead with his newly
acquired “special” MX5. The route that David & Audrey had set out for us skirted Ringwood through Bransgore , Sopley , Hurn
& Matchams. This is where Wilf & I had a reminiscing moment - especially as we passed the MOD private land at Avonpark
opposite the Christchurch Ski Centre on Matchams Lane. Our rally car had many a moment or two in there! With me in the
co-driver's seat as well!
On to Verwood and 3 Legged Cross. It was a lovely sunny day so we could all enjoy the top down for the 34 miles to lunch at
Cranborne Garden Centre. Here we were met by Hils Frewer who was able to drive herself once again. Good to see Anna East
had chosen to meet up with us too. Knowing how she loves her garden I was not surprised. Once lunch was finished it was a stroll
around the plants and the “regulation” Gift Shop.
Thank you to David & Audrey for arranging the coffee and lunch venues at the 2 garden centres as well as an interesting route
Between them.
