WJUC (“The Juice”) is a commercial
Urban contemporary music radio station
in Swanton, Ohio, broadcasting to the
Swanton, Ohio-Toledo, Ohio area on
107.3 FM.

ISTORY
WJUC, which began
broadcasting in 1997,
was the first African-American
owned-and-operated
radio
station in the Toledo market and
is one of the few radio stations in
the area that is still locally owned
and operated. “The Juice” began
as a station playing a wide variety
of
musical
styles
to
African-American
appealing
listeners,
including rap, soul oldies, gospel
music, and blues. Today, the
station’s playlist consists almost
exclusively of hip hop and urban
contemporary hits, aside from a
Sunday morning gospel music
show.

WJUC’s facilites include an office area
for administrative tasks, a production
room for on site recording, and of course
a studio for their on-air live
broadcasts.
The WJUC
building is located on
Southwyck
Boulevard.
Even though the station’s
motto is “Toledo’s Station
for Hip Hop and R&B,
the transmission tower
is actually located in
Swanton, Ohio.

The Juice 107.3 WJUC is an
independantly owned radio station and
has been since 1997. WJUC takes
pride in the fact that they are one of
the extremely few independantly owned
and family operated stations. WJUC is
the brainchild of Charles “Charlie Chuck”
Welch, a former disc jockey at the nowdefunct WKLR-FM (now WKKO). Welch
is said to be proud that his station is still
live and local and has reportedly declined
offers from larger broadcasters to buy his
station

sponsors various events
in order to promote
the radio station and local
businesses. Some of their most
recent were live broadcasts
from The Valt on Laskey road
and the Put Me On Workshop,
where record company A&Rs
were invited to speak to
potential artists about marketing
their music effectively. Being
an
independant
station,
The Juice works hard at
promoting the local scene.
