CELEBRITY OF THE DAY
DANTE PALMINTERI
Dante Palminteri was born on October 11, 1995 in New York, the son of actor/writer/director Chazz
Palminteri and actress/producer Gianna Palminteri. At age 10 Dante was cast in both his father, Chazz
Palminteri and his mother, Gianna Palminteri’s films, Noel and The Obscure Brother, where his love of
acting and performing was born. With those genes, is it any wonder he has decided to follow in his
parents’ footsteps? He grew up with his time being split between New York and Los Angeles -- and other locales where his
father might be making a film. With so much time spent on film sets, backstage in theatres, or in recording
studios Dante felt early on that he was destined to a life in the entertainment business. He started acting
while very young and is a member of the prestigious Lighthouse Youth Theater, where he performs in one
of the lead roles in all productions. He recently starred as ‘Link Larkin’ in the musical Hairspray.
Dante will next be seen in the Syfy Channel’s second installment of last year’s pop culture and social media
sensation Sharknado, appropriately titled Sharknado 2: The Second One, which will premiere tonight at 9
PM on Syfy. This time it’s New York City that is threatened by a deadly Sharknado and must be saved from
destruction! In addition to acting, he will sing the original song “Eat Me” in the film.
In Sharknado 2: The Second One, a freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City,
unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin (Ian Ziering)
and April (Tara Reid) can save the Big Apple. Sharknado 2, which was filmed in New York City, also stars
Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer, Vivica A. Fox and Judah Friedlander, with cameo appearances including Kelly
Osbourne, Judd Hirsch, Perez Hilton, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Andy Dick, Robert Klein, Sandra “Pepa” Denton,
Biz Markie, Downtown Julie Brown, Richard Kind and Kurt Angle, among others. Sharknado 2: The Second
One is a production of The Asylum. Anthony C. Ferrante returns to direct a screenplay by Thunder Levin,
who also wrote Sharknado.
Dante is also quite an accomplished singer/songwriter. At age 12, Dante put his first band together,
MIGRAINE with fellow young musicians from his music school. After performing at The Bitter End and
Crash Mansion in NYC, Dante realized that music was his true passion and he began to study music and
write original songs. Playing the guitar, piano, bass and drums Dante began to shape the direction his life
would take. He put together several dedicated band mates and they formed their band, KAYMUS at age
14. He and his group KAYMUS have appeared in such venues as The Bitter End, Crash Mansion and The
Gramercy Theatre in NYC, Ollie’s Point and Revolutionary Club in Amityville, Long Island as well as shows
in New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. They have been in
the Top 20 in Bamboozle’s The Break Contest in 2012 and 2013. Dante released the EP, World Away, in
2013.
In addition to performing as a singer/songwriter Dante's love for acting and filmmaking has given him the
opportunity to combine the different art mediums.
“Film and music are a perfect match, and I have had such a great time blending the two thru filmmaking,”
says Dante. In the short film Til’ 27 which he wrote and directed, Dante told the story of a young rock
musician who sells his soul to get over writer’s block. “Music has the power to make a good film even
better.”
Dante has also used film and video to chronicle life on the road while on tour with KAYMUS. “Film is a
natural fit for my music, and I intend to use both to tell my stories.”
Along with his parents, Dante and his sister, Gabriella, who is also a performer, spend their time between
New York and Los Angeles. Dante Palminteri, who will appear on “Good Day New York” this morning to
promote Sharknado 2: The Second One, is available for interviews upon request.
