Sunday’s Sermon
“The Mission of Multiplication” - Genesis 1:28
Pastor Rickey Primrose
As we continue our Extending Eden series this Sunday, we will shift our focus from
marriage onto children and the family. This Sunday we will see God’s mission for
godly multiplication and the high view God has for the next generation. It will
become very evident that God’s view of children runs directly against the view of
modern society. I fear that sometimes Christians’ view of children in the home and in
the church better reflects the culture where they live than the heart of the God they
serve. This message will challenge us to see children from a kingdom perspective.
Prepare for Sunday by reading Genesis 1:26-28 and Psalm 127. As you read these
passages, consider how God’s view of children differs from our own culture. What
can you glean from Genesis 1:26-28 regarding God’s purpose for childbearing?

In response to Sunday’s message, take time to think about these truths and the response questions.
Sunday, July 12| “Woman’s Mission of Marriage”—Ephesians 5:22-24
Truth: God’s design for the home and for marriage is for wives to voluntarily align themselves under the authority of their own
husbands. This type of submission is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of incredible strength.
Truth: The purpose for this alignment is God’s Gospel-centered design. According to this design, which reflects the Church-Christ
relationship, husbands have been given a position of authority in the home. The command for wives to submit is not grounded in
(and therefore is not conditioned by) the husband’s superiority, ability, or faithfulness as a leader.
Truth: The pattern for this alignment is God’s Gospel-centered community, the Church. Wives should submit to their own
husbands in the same manner that the Church submits to Christ. Thus, godly submission is joyful, respectful, active, and
comprehensive.
Response (for all Christians): Are you submitting yourself to God and His design? All people are under the authority of someone;
are you honoring and submitting yourself to the authorities God has placed over you? Take time this week to identify the
authorities God has placed in your life. Evaluate your own submission to these authorities. Don’t forget to evaluate your attitude
toward them. Are you respecting the position of those God has placed in authority over you?
Response (for wives): Take time this week to examine your own submission to your husband and evaluate it against the four
characteristics of godly submission we identified this past Sunday. Is your submission joyful? Are you respectful of your husband?
Are you actively helping, supporting, and encouraging him as he leads? Is there any area of life where you are not aligning
yourself under his authority? Take time this week to ask him if he feels empowered to assume the role of leader in the home based
upon the way your relate to him. Ask him if there is any way you can better help him as he leads in the home.
Response (for husbands): Are you loving your wife and exhibiting servant-leadership in such a way that she is glad to align
herself under your authority? Did this message expose any false ideas you had about what biblical submission is? Do you lean
upon your wife’s help by seeking out her advice, wisdom, and counsel? Initiate a conversation this week with your wife regarding
anything you can do as a leader that will better empower her to submit to your lead. Approach this conversation with an attitude
of humility, love, and gentleness. If you have held a distorted view of biblical submission in the past, be sure to confess this to your
wife and ask her forgiveness.
