SECTION 1
GENERAL
This aircraft is fitted with a TKM MX300 VHF Communications Transceiver
and VOR/LOC Navigation Receiver. As well as tuning in to VHF voice and
VOR/LOC channels, the MX300 also remotely controls the frequency of a
Glideslope (GS) receiver in the tailcone of the aircraft. A closeup image of
the MX300 and its location in the instrument panel are shown on the
previous page.
Before flight, all pilots are required to become competent using the
equipment by reading and understanding the documentation provided.
The documentation includes:
• this Information Sheet
• relevant extracts from the TKM MX300 Instruction Manual, and
• a TKM MX300 brochure.
All of the above documents are stored in the aircraft’s glovebox as a single
booklet. They can also be viewed as individual documents via the Internet

OPERATING CAUTIONS
When the autopilot has VOR NAV steering selected, it relies
on VOR/LOC reception by the TKM MX300. The TKM MX300 must be
switched on, receiving, and outputting valid roll steering data for the
autopilot to work optimally in that mode.

ALL PILOTS:
•
IFR PILOTS:
At the present time, the TKM MX300
is an IFR installation
and can be relied on for IFR communication and navi gation.

OPERATING SUMMARY
• PREREQUISITES: For the TKM MX300 to work,
o the aircraft’s BAT MASTER rocker switch must be ON, and
o the AVIONICS POWER toggle switch/circuit breaker must be ON,
and
o the push-pull circuit breaker labelled RADIO 2 must be in.
• POWERING UP THE
MX300: The power switch for the MX300
upper control knob. To switch the MX300
on,
is in the small
grip the small upper
control knob and turn it slowly clockwise until it clicks.
• COM VOLUME: The small upper control knob adjusts the volume of the
MX300’s VHF communications receiver. Turn the knob clockwise to
increase the receiver’s volume, anticlockwise to decrease it. (Make sure
the
Com2 button is selected on the SL15M Audio Panel beforehand.)

NORMAL PRO CED URE S
The TKM MX300 replaces the Cessna 300 Nav/Com RT-308C and RT-328T
which are listed in the Cessna Pilot’s Operating Handbook in Section 9.
To operate the MX300 competently, pilots must take the time to read and
understand:
• this Information Sheet
• relevant extracts from the TKM MX300 Instruction Manual, and
• the TKM MX300 brochure.

PERFORMANCE
There is no change to the airplane's performance when this
avionic
equipment is installed. However, an externally mounted VHF antenna, or
several related external antennas, will result in a minor reduction in cruise
performance.
• The VHF communication antennas for the TKM MX300 (and Apollo
SL60) are located on top of the cabin roof above the rear seat;
• The VOR/LOC receiving antennas are on top of the tail fin; and
• The GS (ILS) receiving antenna is mounted inside the cabin at the top of
the windscreen, above the magnetic compass. (The receiver is inside
the tailcone, behind the ELT, remotely controlled by the MX300
.)
