The Nickel Mines Series
The Nickel Mines community is my neighborhood, and I was deeply affected by the happenings of October 2, 2006 at West Nickel Mines Amish school. I knew I would eventually do a painting of the school. As I had driven by many times earlier, and observed the children at play, I also knew the painting would include them, happy and playing the simple games they so much enjoyed.
Prayers and tears mixed with my paints as I worked with pencil and brush in hand. On my heart were the parents and families
of these dear children, along with all the courageous people who responded in so many ways, to their emergency.
I pray that we will carry in our lives, the JOY and HAPPINESS of the children, along with the Spirit of FORGIVENESS shown by the
parents and families of the Nickel Mines community.
