Good to know
] French Polynesia is also known as Tahiti & Her Islands. There are 118 islands comprising French Polynesia, of which Tahiti
is the main island and the location of the capital city of Papeete. Faa’a International Airport is located on the island of Tahiti
approximately 5 kilometres west of Papeete.
] From Australia, Air Tahiti Nui is the international airline to Tahiti & Her Islands. It offers flights between Australia and Papeete, via
Auckland.
] International flights arrive in Papeete. Due to crossing the International Dateline, most flights from Australia arrive the day
before they depart. Holiday packages in French Polynesia will usually require one night in Papeete before travelling to another
island the following morning. Most passengers returning to Australia will require one night in Papeete prior to departure, as
flights leave early in the morning.
] Air Tahiti is a private, domestic airline which links all five archipelagos. Travel between some islands, such as Tahiti and Moorea,
can be made by high-speed catamarans.
] We recommend booking the same hotel chain throughout your visit, as ‘Island Combo’ specials are available. We also
recommend booking transfers throughout your visit.
Passports & Visas
Australian passport holders do not currently require a visa for a stay as a tourist of up to three months, but must hold a passport
with six months validity beyond the date of departure from French Polynesia.
If you are a non Australian passport holder please check your visa requirements with the appropriate Embassy or Consular office.
Please note you may also require a transit visa for New Zealand if you are flying via Auckland.
Tahiti
Travel Tips
Tahiti
Tahiti is the largest of the 118 islands and atolls
that comprise French Polynesia and flights to Tahiti
arrive into its international airport, Faa’a. Papeete is
the capital city and the commercial hub of French
Polynesia. Papeete has a colourful market offering
local food, hand-made crafts and souvenirs as well
as a range of pearl shops, bars and restaurants.
There is so much more to Tahiti than Papeete –
majestic valleys, rich archaeological sites, striking
volcanic peaks and a stunning turquoise lagoon.
Tahiti is an island of hidden treasures!
Currency
The local currency is the French Pacific Franc (XPF). There are plenty of ATMs and banks in Tahiti, with branch offices in the resort
Islands. Major credit cards are widely accepted in most hotels, restaurants, boutiques and other tourist establishments. We do
recommend you carry some local currency for smaller purchases.
Note: AUD$1 = 93 XPF approximately.

Beginners and accomplished divers alike will be amazed by the
diversity and abundance of marine life in Tahiti & Her Islands with
lagoon, reef drop off and pass dives available. Year round you can
see a vast array of shark species as well as dolphins, turtles, leopard,
manta and eagle rays, barracudas, eels and a huge variety of tropical
fish. There are many islands where you can dive in French Polynesia
but the Tuamotu Archipelago is a diving mecca! It is home to
Rangiroa’s Tiputa Pass drift dive with its ‘wall of sharks’, the majestic
manta rays of Tikehau and the UNESCO classified Biosphere of
Fakarava. All dive centres are fully equipped and staff understand and
speak English. Dive passes can be purchased and used on a multitude
of different islands and can even be shared amongst two people.
Whatever dive site you choose, you will enjoy the show!
Whether you are dreaming of a Polynesian style beach ceremony or a more traditional wedding in a chapel,
Tahiti & Her Islands offer an unforgettable wedding day.
French Polynesia allows foreign nationals to legally marry in this dream location provided a few simple
conditions are met. For a legal wedding, you are required to have a short civil ceremony in the town hall of the
island on which you will have your wedding. The required legal documents must be received by the mayor’s
office no later than 45 days prior to your wedding day. Tahiti Travel Connection’s specialist team will relieve the
stress of planning a wedding in a foreign country and coordinate all the legal arrangements in French Polynesia,
leaving you free to focus on each other!
Weddings
Tahiti
Diving
Most resorts offer a range of ceremonies: from quiet sunset beach weddings, to Polynesian weddings with
music and dancers, to traditional ceremonies in an overwater chapel. Our specialist consultants will assist you
to choose the ceremony that is perfect for you!
Surfing
Tahiti & Her Islands is THE surf destination in the Pacific. There are
a range of beach and reef breaks throughout the islands that suit
all levels of surfing. The island of Tahiti is best for debutants as it
has some beach breaks with smaller waves and, if needed, we can
offer surf lessons and board hire. For reef breaks a boat is often
required as they are far from the beach and the currents are strong
near the channels. Visitors are welcomed to surf spots in Tahiti,
Moorea and Bora Bora but it is best to surf the other islands with
a local! We offer a range of resort and pension accommodation
catering to all surf budgets and we can advise you on those located
nearest the breaks. Note: whilst the perfect barrel in Teahupoo is
the thing dreams are made of, it is a wave that is recommended for
expert surfers only!
Spa
Tahiti & Her Islands are famous for their spa treatments, and the
products used are known throughout the world. A holiday to Tahiti
& Her Islands would not be complete without a relaxing signature
‘Vichy’ shower, a soothing Monoi Oil Polynesian massage or a
massage in the stunning lagoon waters. You will be tempted by the
exotic oils and scrubs which are made with natural, local products
like Tiare flowers, vanilla, black sand and Noni fruit. Most of the
larger resorts have on-site spas offering a range of relaxation and
well-being experiences. You can pre-book your spa treatments so
contact our team for more details…they will be more than happy to
recommend a few of their favourites!

Car Hire
Hiring a car for a day, or simply a few hours, is a fabulous way
to get out and about on the large islands and discover your own
piece of paradise. There are a range of car companies and types of
vehicles available. On some islands we can also offer the GPS Digiguide, which alerts you when you approach a site of interest and
provides information about the site. Cars drive on the right hand
side of the road in French Polynesia and Australians can hire a car
and drive with their valid Australian Drivers Licence.

TAHITI TRAVEL CONNECTION – BOOKING TERMS & CONDITIONS. Please read carefully.
BOOKINGS
All reservations are subject to availability at the time of booking. Any verbal
quote given is only an estimate of the price which will be effective only upon
the issuing of a written advice on confirmation of the reservation. All bookings
with Tahiti Travel Connection (“TTC”) are subject to the terms and conditions
and limitations of liability imposed by airlines, hoteliers, coach operators, and
other service providers including, but not limited to, rail, car hire and restaurant
operators whose services we utilise, some of which limit or exclude liability
in respect of death, personal injury, delay and loss or damage to baggage.
Bookings with carriers or tour operators are also subject to the carrier’s terms
and conditions as printed or referred to in their tickets and/or timetables and/or
regulations. TTC and/or its agents reserve the right, without notice, to modify,
cancel or withdraw any of the arrangements and in this event the full amounts
paid will be returned to the customer, and upon rendering the same, all liability
of TTC and/or its agents in respect thereof shall cease. TTC and/or its agents
reserve the right to decline to accept or retain any person as a member of any
group at any time. TTC reserves the right to adjust any price without notice
whatsoever at any time up to the day full payment is received by TTC.
DEPOSITS, FINAL PAYMENT
A non-refundable deposit of $300 per person must be paid at the time of booking.
Bookings for which this deposit is not received are subject to cancellation without
notice. If TTC is unable to confirm the requested arrangements the deposit will
be fully refundable. Deposits vary for each tour operator, hotel or provider of any
service contained in this brochure, and will be payable according to the General
Terms and Conditions of each operator. *Please note that firm reservations
cannot be made for any pre-booked accommodation until the required deposit
is received. The balance payment must be received not less than 45 days prior
to departure. If the balance payment is not received by TTC by the due date, we
reserve the right to treat the booking as cancelled and to apply the appropriate
cancellation charges. Payments by credit card are subject to merchant fees.
AMENDMENT FEES
For each amendment requested after confirmation a fee of $50 will be charged
in addition to any charges levied by hotels, ground/cruise operators or airlines.
The fee will be $100 if vouchers have already been issued. An amendment
constitutes a change to an existing booking and not a transfer to another tour or
date, wherein cancellation fees may apply.
CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS
All airfares are non-refundable. Should you or any member of your party wish
to cancel, you must advise your Travel Agent and/or TTC in writing. Such written
advice should be signed by the person who made the original booking. The
cancellation is not effective until TTC receives the written advice. Cancellations
are subject to a fee as follows:
– 45 days, or more, prior to departure: forfeit of deposit, plus any paid airfares.
– 15–44 days prior to departure: the greater of 25% of the total cost
or deposit paid, plus any paid airfares.
– 14 days, or less, prior to departure: 100% of total cost.

by reasonable diligence on our part including, but not limited to, war, civil
disturbance, fire, floods, pandemic, unusually severe weather, acts of God, acts
of Government or of any other authorities, accidents to or failure of machinery
or equipment or industrial action (whether or not involving our employees and
even though such action may be settled by acceding to demands of a labour
group). Maps and photographs are only included for the purpose of general
information and do not necessarily indicate actual itineraries or location of
services provided. Photographs are purely for decorative purposes and do not
show any service offered or any location visited on any of the tours contained in
this brochure or advertised by any tour provider. Photographs of hotel rooms are
only an example of a room available and do not necessarily represent the type
of room or the room which will be made available.
EXTRA SERVICES
TTC, its agents and any tour operator or provider of services is not liable for any
changes, fees or costs not included in the services offered, and any additional
costs are the responsibility of the passenger.
ERRORS OR OMMISSIONS (E&OE)
We reserve the right to correct any errors in rates quoted or calculated for any
service, notwithstanding that the invoice may have been paid in full. It is the
responsibility of the Travel Agent to ensure all invoice details are correct and that
the client acknowledges all cancellation conditions.
