visitors` center - Christmas Lights on the Mesa Arizona Temple
You are always welcome!
The Visitors’ Center
and grounds welcome
over one million guests
every year. These include
tens of thousands
Mesa Arizona Temple Visitors’ Center
who come to view the
spectacular Christmas lights display and the world’s largest
outdoor Easter pageant. Entering the Visitors’ Center
one is drawn to the magnificent
13-foot tall marble likeness of the
Famed Easter Pageant
famed Thorvaldsen Christus. Numerous exhibits and state-of-the-art displays explain
beliefs of the Church and focus on our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. The history and purpose of temples (including interior images), the eternal
nature of families and the origin
of the Book of Mormon: Another
Testament of Jesus Christ are also
750,000 Christmas Lights
described. Three theaters screen
a variety of informative films and an interactive diorama
of ancient Jerusalem features over
4000 miniature structures.
Adjacent to the grounds–and
Family History Center
open to anyone curious about their
ancestors–is the largest of over 4500 genealogy centers
world-wide tied to the global resources of the renowned
LDS Church Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
We welcome you and thank you for your interest.
Dedicated
in 1927, the
historic Mesa
Arizona Temple
was one of the
first temples of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints constructed outside of
Utah. In certain light its unusual eggshell
terra cotta tile exterior radiates an almost
iridescent glow.
The classic architecture is said to model
ancient temples and is one of only three
Latter-day Saint temples of similar design.
A series of intricately carved
friezes depict the gathering of
Israel out of the four corners
of the earth.
While the grounds and
gardens are open to all, temple entry is reserved to Church faithful who take part in
sacred ordinances
that link precious
family relationships
throughout eternity.
It is not at all uncommon to see newly
married couples blissfully posing for
photographs on the Temple grounds.
We look forward to your visit.

Rediscover the
beauty of Creation
in an oasis of peace
...the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, and every plant of the
field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew...
Genesis Chapter 2 - Verses 4 and 5
Members of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
revere each temple as a
house of the Lord.
Visitors frequently
Thorvaldsen’s “Christus”
comment on the special
presence and sense of peace that surround
the Mesa Arizona Temple.
The meticulous care afforded the
acclaimed temple grounds and gardens
reverence the majesty and abundant
variety of God’s earthly creations.
Volunteers and staff plant over 50,000
flowers annually, assuring a vibrant yearround display. Sweeping lawns, over 500 trees
and more than 1000 cultivars of some 120
shrub ground cover, perennial varieties grace
twelve beautifully landscaped acres.
Points of interest include the reflecting pools,
cactus garden, petrified wood specimens, bride’s
garden, and calendar stone petroglyph. Among
tree species you’ll find deciduous and evergreen
varieties including Italian and Montezuma
cypress, oaks, citrus, pines, palm, red ironbark
eucalyptus and palo verde, the Arizona state tree.
Visit and enjoy this delightful place.
