Judges (left to right)
Kevin Carlson (Aeolus), Dr Judy Newton (Solari), Ed Panoutsos (Arukh)
Sebastian represents Jamora's seventh generation and is the product of my family's 41
years of dedication to the Saluki.
His name was chosen by my daughters, which he shares with the little red crustacean in
Disney's The Little Mermaid.
At home he is a constant comedian and his favorite pastimes include partnering with
Parker in patrol of the fence for vermin, nibbling on our favorite houseplants, and
pulling bathroom towels off the rack and dragging them through the house.
When I think of Sebastian's life and the circumstances by which he is part of this special
event, I am reminded of the words, “When one door closes another door opens...” After
the heartbreaking loss in 2010 of his brother, Benjamin, Sebastian and I continue to
discover new opportunities for growth and friendships we did not foresee through our
grief.
My family is deeply honored that Sebastian was the inaugural TOP 20 Winner at the
Saluki Club of America National Specialty in 2012. His other accomplishments include
two all breed Best in Shows, six Best in Specialty Shows, multiple group wins and
placements and he is the #1 breeder-owner handled Saluki in 2012 and 2013 (based on
breed and all breed points.)
Sebbie's most valued roles are as our family's devoted companion, Molly's junior
showmanship partner, and my exercise buddy. He reminds us daily the importance of
gratitude and the unexpected adventures from exploring opened doors.

Introducing the 2013 Judges:
Breeder Judge
Lea Anne Broseus, Silverlea
I am a second generation saluki breeder. My mom, Connie Halliday, welcomed our 1st Saluki into our
lives from Kay Sauerman, Montebello Salukis in 1978. I co-owned Montebello’s Reesha and she
became my first show dog. My first champion was Ch. Montebello’s Z’Rena Bint Reesha. I finished her
by going winners bitch at the SCOA National in 1988 when I was fifteen years old.
Since then I have bred 3 litters under the name Silverlea. I have produced or finished thirteen
champions and three dual champions under my name. I enjoy both the confirmation ring and the lure
field. I enjoy their grace and beauty in the show ring and I especially love to see our Salukis out in the
field with the excitement in their eyes over the thrill of the chase.
I am currently a member of the SCOA, ASA, Huron Valley Saluki Club, OKIGO coursing club, Licking River
KC and a 4-H Youth Advisor. In my other life, my husband & I have a 5yr old son Evan and a 1 1/2yr old
girl Eva, (Hopefully both will be a 3rd generation dog show enthusiast!). We share our home with 7
Salukis and 1 crazy German Shepherd. I work at a local credit union in Sales and Marketing.
Thank you for this wonderful honor to evaluate your Salukis at our wonderful National Specialty. I am
grateful and humbled.
Handler Judge
Christi Halliday, Imp-Cen
My name is Christina Halliday. I'm from Waynesburg, Pa and it is my honor to be chosen as your Top
20 "Handler Judge" for this year's SCOA Top 20 competition. I began showing German Shepherds and
Salukis in 1980 under the kennel name of Imp-Cen, my mother's kennel, and the name I still use today.
I am the sister of your 2013 Sweepstakes Judge Mrs Lea Anne Broseus.
Growing up my mother Connie Halliday bred and raised Salukis from the Montebello lines of Mrs Kay
Sauerman. Mom's foundation bitch, Montebello's Reesha produced my sister Lea's foundation, Ch
Montebello Z'Reina Bint Reesha, the 1988 SCOA Winner's Bitch.
Over the years I've enjoyed much success in both breeds, but it is the German Shepherds which
afforded me the opportunity to breed, own, and/or handle a total of 4 All Breed Best In Show winners
during the past decade.
On the saluki side of my world, I am best known for showing the storied Desert Rose Salukis for Tom
and Judy Lauer, as well as helping out my sister Lea from time to time!
In addition I live with, and deeply love my own Saluki, Ch Ajilon Imp-Cen's Spectacular Bid, a lovely
group placing dog who finished his championship in a mere handful of shows, however my suggestion
of chasing a plastic bag around a hot field...not so well received! Bid had his eyes focused directly at
the couch! Let aunt Lea's dogs do the running!
To close, I wish to thank the SCOA for giving me the opportunity to judge the top ranked Salukis from
this past year, having grown up and competed in a breed I have such strong love and adoration for, I
am humbled.
AKC Licensed Judge
David Miller, Shandell
Mr. Miller has been a dog enthusiast all his life. From an early age, his parents raised various terriers. In
the early seventies while residing in France, he fixed his sights upon the dogs that he has raised for
over thirty-five years, Salukis. Under the prefix of Shandell, and coupled with the French Saluki kennel,
Arab Bahari, he still occasionally breeds and shows. In addition, he has owned Afghans, Dalmatians and
Italian Greyhounds.
In the mid-seventies and throughout the eighties, Mr. Miller showed not only his Salukis, but dogs in
several breeds for clients. In 1988, he applied to the American Kennel Club and was approved to judge
Salukis. Since then, he is approved for the Hound Group, Non-Sporting Group, Brittanies, Curly Coated
Retrievers, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels, Irish Setters, English Setters, Vizslas,
Weimaraners, German Shorthaired Pointers, Gordon Setters, Norfolk, Norwich Terriers, Italian
Greyhounds, Pugs and Toy Poodles. He has held many offices in the Grand River Kennel Club, currently
President, and is the show chairperson for their cluster weekend – The Regatta Classic. Moreover, he is
the Vice-President of the Cuyahoga Valley Hound Association.
Mr. Miller has officiated in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden,
Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Australia, China and South Korea. He is published in both English
and French in professional periodicals as well as dog publications. Moreover, he has given seminars on
the Saluki. He travels frequently to North Africa due to his association with sighthounds and conducts
tours of Marrakech, Morocco and its surroundings. As an avid traveler, he has visited many kennels in
India.
Professionally, Mr. Miller is the department coordinator of World Languages for a school system in the
Cleveland, Ohio metropolitan area. He has also instructed on the university undergraduate and
graduate levels. Furthermore, he has been a former member of the Advisory Board of the Montreux
School of Business, Montreux, Switzerland. He holds a Master's Degree in Education with a
specialization in French as well as a Certificat Du Premier Degré from the Université De Strasbourg,
France. He is a translator and has conferred on projects for officials at the United Nations as well as the
French government in relation to indigenous canine breeds of the Sahara. At the World Dog Show in
Paris 2011, he served as a translator for the Poodle World Congress.
In his spare time, he is an amateur photographer whose work has been published internationally. Mr.
Miller speaks French, German, Italian and English.

winner at the National, he is a skilled Frisbee catcher, water retriever and

Most Memorable Win: Best of Breed – ASA Celebration 2012 – Lompoc,
California – Judge Carole Tipler
Goldi is the perpetual puppy. She is silly, funny and makes me laugh every
day of my life. She is also the reincarnation of her illustrious ancestor
CH Crown Crest Califia . She is small, moderate and while she is a group
winner, her qualities have been recognized by breeder judges for the most
part.
If she is not in attendance at the top twenty competition it is because she
is home raising her puppies by CH Chubasco Canem-Dei Hindoo.

DOB: June 16, 2010

Jesse is MSBIS AM GCH, CAN CH Freespirits As You Like It AOM, our cream
male from MSBIS Ch Lorrequer's Kharyder AOM, and National Specialty
Winner AM GCH Canapus Anastasia AOM.
Jesse stole our hearts from the getgo, with his endearing personality and
good looks, and I am happy to say that he has never looked back.
He is a confident, biddable, playful boy and a joy to live with.
Jesse has enjoyed considerable success in the show ring for such a young
dog, finishing at a tender age with straight majors in Specialty and supported
entries, winning MSBIS and quickly finishing his Bronze Level GCH. He is not
yet 3 years old.
He is currently practicing for his Rally and Obedience titles and busy tidying
up his toybox for our upcoming move to Florida!
Jesse makes us laugh several times every day and, for us, that is what it is all
about.

turned into an adventure as she moved from her championship through her
Silver Grand Championship. Her most memorable win is her love for the
show experience. Each recognition has its own unique memory.
Priya was born into the loving embrace of Joan Aaron. She was whelped in
my home and has been a source of immeasurable joy with her sweet
disposition and creative mind. Priya loves her family, the show ring, lure

Most Memorable Win: 2009 Saluki Club of America National Specialty Best of
Breed under Mr. Garry Newton
Seven years ago, he was everything I looked for in an eight week old puppy,
except he didn’t come when called. So we gave him the long , cool sounding
name which was the beginning of “lifetime moments”. The most memorable
was four years ago, winning the SCOA national specialty under Mr. Garry
Newton, followed by ASA Dog of the Year . These were awards that I had
read about, but were never a part of my dreams; and they now are
commemorated on our walls.
My once in a lifetime, homebred Hawaiian Saluki is my house pet who
happens to enjoy dog shows and lure coursing as much as running the back
yards to tree the neighborhood cats. Between bringing me his tennis balls
for a dog treat, he guards his house and keeps the farm dogs at bay.
Parmenides is the epitomy of the loyal, intelligent Saluki. When he’s happy
his FLY wags; his lips grin but his eyes maintain the dignity of the breed. He’s
opened doors for us to make lifetime friendships to share the passion of the
Saluki .
I’d like to thank our dear friends for their support on our journey (from a
little island in the Pacific to grand scale Midwest) with “the dog who knows
his name”.

Although he is only two years old, Cyrus is the "grumpy grandfather" figure

DOB: September 10, 2010
Most Memorable Win: All-breed Best in Show at South Shore Kennel Club on
9/14/2012, just a few days shy of his 2nd birthday.
Oliver arrived in the States from Australia on his first birthday and began his
show career in 2012. He won Best in Specialty Show at one of his first
outings at the Empire Saluki Club Meadowlands Specialty from the 15 – 18
month puppy class over a very competitive entry on Westminster
weekend. Oliver finished his championship in May under breeder-judge Alan
Ewles at the Garden State Specialties and went on in 2012 to be the #5 Saluki
all-systems. Oliver is owner-handled by Roberta Scerbo. While, in my
opinion, a lovely Saluki to look at I would have to say his best quality is his
temperament. His call name when he arrived was “Dudley Dufus”, which fits
him to a tee, he is sweet and lovable and a joy to be around.

Call Name: Eve
Color: Black Fringed Red
DOB: May 15, 2006
Most Memorable Win: Eve’s most memorable win was her Best of Breed win
at the 2009 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Show under judge Joan
Anselm. That year, the Saluki Club of America designated this show a
Regional Specialty. Eve was also awarded Best Bred by Exhibitor in Salukis as
well. It was a magical moment, to be sure!
How can we describe Eve….well, she’ll always be our “little red puppy girl.”
SHE picked us as a puppy, stealing our hearts from the moment she was
born. Eve is a playful girl…somewhat a ‘tomboy’ …. still loves to play and run.
When inside, she turns into a cuddly couch potato! Eve still enjoys her
outings in the ring, and is always a pleasure to show!

Call Name: Tattu
DOB: January 29, 2009
Color: Silver Grizzle
The fancy was intrigued by his call name and spelling, but soon learned that he was
named for one of the pillars at the Temple of Osiris. One pillar is Tutt, which means in
Egyptian, “In Strength” the other pillar is called Tattu which in Egyptian, means “To
Establish”.
Tattu was my pick from the Z’Bee litter at 4 weeks of age. How I was going to get him
away from Deric, who wanted to keep him, was another story! In the end, I was
successful in convincing him that Tattu would much prefer to grow up in the California
sunshine instead of harsh Michigan winters! This was a prophetic move as he shuns rain
and cold weather, only venturing out in questionable climate if it means he can play
with a favorite tennis ball.
Tattu has been rewarded by many esteemed breeder-judges for his type, moderate
build and light, effortless movement. He has been critiqued with the description “An
elegant dog with nothing overdone”… At just 2 years of age, he finished his AKC
championship with a Specialty Winners Dog and was Best Opposite Sex winning the
Perpetual Fantasia Trophy two days later… his first day as a Special, at the ASA
Celebration, Lompoc.
Honored by his achievements... 2012 was another exciting year for us. Tattu won a Best
in Specialty at The Willamette Saluki Specialty and was Multi-Group placing before the
end of summer. He was in the Top 10 rankings all year and finished the year #10 Saluki
Breed Standings and #15 All-Breed Standings… and all without ever going very far from
home! We are committed to never flying Tattu so our geographic show area is rather
limited to modest driving distances!
What Tattu has accomplished in the show ring is eclipsed by the wonderful companion
we live with at home. He is the sweetest Saluki I have shared my life with in almost 40
years.
It is an honor to have Tattu be part of the Top Twenty Competition and we congratulate
all other participants in attendance.
