Jordan River once turned back
when Elisha struck its stream
with his mantle in the wake
of Elias's acent;
and the water was parted to the one side and to the other.
And thus the fluid stream
became a dry way for him,
a symbol and truly a type of Baptism,
by which we now pass over the streaming
passage of the present life.
And Christ appeared at the Jordan River
to sanctify the waters

EPISTLE READING
St. Paul's Second Letter to Timothy 4:5-8
TIMOTHY, my son, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil
your ministry.
For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. I have
fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is
laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award
to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
GOSPEL READING
Mark 1:1-8
The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the
prophet, 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way; the
voice of one crying in the wilderness: prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.'
John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the
forgiveness of sins. And there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the people of
Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now
John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leather girdle around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I,
the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you
with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
THE CONFESSION OF FAITH
(Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed)
I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages;
Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all
things were made.
Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the
Virgin Mary and became man.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried;
And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father;
And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end.
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the
Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets.
In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come.
Amen.
HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion is the Body and Blood of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Saint John of
Kronstadt (1829 – 1908) says, “in partaking of
the Holy Sacrament, be as sure that you
partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, as you
are sure that every moment you breathe air.”
Saint Cyril of Jerusalem (about 313 – 386) also
teaches us “Since Christ Himself has declared
the bread to be His Body, who can have any
further doubt? Since He Himself has said
quite categorically, ‘This is My Blood,’ who
would dare to question it, and say that it is not
His Blood? Therefore, it is with complete
assurance that we receive the bread and wine
as the Body and Blood of Christ. His Body is
given to us under the symbol of bread, and His Blood is given to us under the symbol of
wine, in order to make us by receiving them one body and blood with Him. Having His Body
and Blood in our members, we become bearers of Christ and sharers, as Saint Peter says, of
the divine nature … Do not then regard the Eucharistic elements as ordinary bread and
wine: they are in fact the Body and Blood of the Lord, as He Himself has declared.
Whatever your senses tell you, be strong in faith.”
The Lord urges us to make a sincere effort to make peace with each other when anger or
hurt exists, seeking forgiveness or granting forgiveness, as appropriate, (Matthew 5:24)
before approaching the Lord.
Receiving Holy Communion is certainly important to our spiritual life and growth. This
ultimate connection with Jesus Christ is a gift which God gives to us and one which should
be accepted gratefully and responsibly. Our Church teaches that receiving Holy Communion
frequently is encouraged. Our Church also teaches that a preparation is expected.
Preparation for Holy Communion can vary from person to person. The minimum
preparation to receive Holy Communion is to fast from meat on Wednesday and Friday and
not eat anything on the morning, prior to receiving Holy Communion. For those who must
take medication that requires food, they are permitted to eat that which is necessary for
their health.
Furthermore, the Church teaches us to fast on particular days during the year and especially
during the four main fast periods. These four main fast periods are in preparation of holy
days of the year, as follows:
13 – 24 December (Nativity of our Lord)
Great Lent (before Holy Week and Easter)
Monday after All Saints’ Day through 28 June (the Apostles),
1 – 14 August (the Dormition of the Theotokos)
Each of us is encouraged to approach the Chalice to receive Holy Communion in love and in
peace, gratefully and responsibly.
Sunday Service Schedule and Teams
When coming to Church on Sundays, families oftentimes disperse to fulfill commitments and
duties. While these commitments and duties are important, Father Bill has set a priority of having
families worship God together.
To facilitate this, a schedule has been created so that family members who volunteer on Sundays
will be assigned to serve on the same Sundays as their family members.

Q: How can you give less and more at the same time?
A: Stock transfer
By giving a gift of stock to the church you avoid capital gains tax and the church receives the
full value of the stock.
Example: You have 10 shares of stock purchased for $20/share. Total cost = $200.
Current value of the stock is $30/share. Total value = $300.
By donating the stock (transfer - do not sell and give cash) the church receives $300 and you
avoid the capital gains tax on the $100 increase. The full value of the donation ($300) would
be deductible.
ICONOGRAPHY IN PHASE 2
Iconographer Dr. George Kordis will be returning to
Holy Trinity to write additional iconography in our
Sanctuary. Donations are needed for the following
items:
ALTAR AREA
Church Father ($6,000): Saint Cyril of Alexandria
Deacon ($5,000): Saint Lawrence
Unique Icon ($3,000): Sacrifice of Abraham
CHOIR AREA
The Choir niche has two large icons, one of Moses
and the Burning Bush and the other of the Presentation of our Lord to the
Temple.
The Choir members are donating the one icon of Moses and the Burning Bush.
Parishioners are invited to donate to the icon of Presentation of our Lord to the
Temple. In this icon, there are two larger persons depicted. These two persons
are Joseph and Symeon.
Each of these larger depicted persons is $5,000 each.
MEDALLIONS
There are four “medallions” of Saints remaining on two arches.
The three saints depicted in the arch above the Choir are Saints Theodore
Studite, Romanos, and Joseph of Thessaloniki.
The only remaining saint depicted in the arch above the Baptistery is Saint
Menas.
