SUMMER 2016
Play Ball!
Special Recognition
Mission Fed and Easy 98.1 FM’s
Business of the Month
campaign featured Stephen Walters,
President at PCS World Network
for the month of March and Jerry
Navarra of Jerome’s Furniture for the
month of April. So many businesses
in our community display selfless
acts on a daily basis and ask for
nothing in return. Easy 98.1 FM and
Mission Fed proudly recognized these
community-minded businesses.
On April 23, 2016, Mission Fed took over Petco Park with
a jersey giveaway promotion. Everyone attending the
Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals game received a free
Tyson Ross jersey courtesy of Mission Fed. Adding to
the excitement of Saturday’s giveaway, our very own
Neville Billimoria, SVP Marketing and Membership,
threw the honorary
first pitch on behalf
of Mission Fed. Neville
was joined by Sreeni
Rao, who rang the
Padres Mission Fed Bell
as the players took
to the field. Free Mission Fed jerseys,
first pitch and bell
ringing! Talk about a
Mission Fed Moment.
RED for a Good Cause
Mission Fed is proud to support the
lifesaving work of the American
Heart Association and their
ongoing research to fight the number
one health threat to women: heart
disease. On February 29, 2016,
Mission Fed employees Angie
Lasagna, VP Community Relations;
Sherry Special, SVP Branch Network;
and Paula Morgan, SVP Human
Resources presented Jennifer Sobotka
of the American Heart Association in
San Diego with $5,500 towards the
Go Red for Heart Disease campaign.
The Max Out My Class program is just another example of how Mission Fed continues to support local schools
and education. Teachers are invited to write letters to the San Diego Office of Education outlining the reasons their
class needs to be “maxed out.” Each week 105.7 Max FM and Mission Fed award a teacher with a $200 Visa® Gift
Card and lunch totes. To learn how you can support schools, visit MissionFed.com/Schools.

Youth Success Week
On April 5, 2016, Mission Fed
presented the King family with a
$2,500 donation to Chelsea’s Light
Foundation. Mission Fed continues
to give back to the communities where
our members live and work through
our Community Spotlight
check presentations. In conjunction
with Petco Park, Mission Fed will be
presenting 10 checks to local nonprofits
live on FOX Sports, which will bring
much-needed media exposure to our
community partners.

Your success is our bottom line.
On March 1, 2016, Mission Fed was honored to sponsor the Girl Scouts San Diego Cool Women luncheon.
Each year, this event recognizes exemplary women whose personal and professional lives make them consummate
role models for girls. These Cool Women make the world a better place as they balance work, family, friends and
community service. Proceeds from the annual event help support the Girl Scout Outreach Program in low-income
neighborhoods, homeless shelters and the Girls Rehabilitation Facility.
Girl Scouts San Diego provides activities for nearly 40,000 girls and adult members, trains volunteers, and maintains
two camps near Julian and program/service facilities in Balboa Park, Carlsbad and Escondido. Mission Fed is proud
to support this wonderful organization.

Spotlight on Local Nonprofits
Mission Fed Proudly Supports Girl Scouts San Diego
Cool Women Luncheon
At Mission Fed, our mission includes
giving back to our local community.
We do this through strategic
partnerships with local educational
and other nonprofits. Recently, we
sponsored The Community
Alliance for Youth Success
(CAYS) in Oceanside. In
collaboration with the local school
district, CAYS brought Youth
Success Week to Oceanside.
This event was designed to engage the
entire community on matters related
to the success and well being of our
youth. By bringing together visionary
educators, student and community
leaders, professional experts, youthserving organizations, entertainers, and
parents and students, Youth Success
Week demonstrated how a community
could come together to put its children
first. Mission Fed was a Silver Level
sponsor and donated $2,500 to this
exciting event.
San Carlos Branch Grand Opening
Mission Fed celebrated the Grand Opening of its new San Carlos Branch on April 2, 2016. The Grand Opening of
our 29th location was a fun-filled event with over 400 visitors. Local residents enjoyed snacks and prize drawings
every half hour. The day’s events included a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Branch Manager Michelle Martin,
Mission Fed President and CEO Debra Schwartz, Board Members and the Senior Management Team. There were
presentations by local dignitaries, a $1,000 check presentation to San Carlos Friends of the Library and a grand prize
drawing of $500. Like all Mission Fed locations, the San Carlos Branch offers friendly, helpful and experienced
representatives to serve customers and assist them with their financial needs.

SPOTLIGHT ON
COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT
MISSION FED HOSTS THE GIRL SCOUT COOKIE PROGRAM
This year, Mission Fed was not only a proud sponsor
of the 6th Annual Finish Chelsea’s Run, but a
group of Mission Fed volunteers participated in the
event in Balboa Park. On March 5, 2016, “Team
Mission Fed” demonstrated the Mission Fed spirit of
community involvement by completing the annual
5K run.
Our partnership with Girl Scouts San Diego is in full swing. In February, over 14 Girl Scout troops sold cookies at select Mission Fed branches
throughout San Diego and worked toward earning their Financial Literacy Badge. Girl Scouts in grades K-12 get real-life experience and learn
financial literacy through this annual event—the world’s largest girl-led business! Mission Fed supports the Girl Scout mission of building girls of
courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. We look forward to continuing to partner with Girl Scouts San Diego and
helping them build leaders of tomorrow.
3rd Annual Mariachi Festival Sponsored by Mission Fed
On April 3, 2016, Mission Fed proudly sponsored the 3rd Annual Mariachi Festival at the California Center for
the Arts in Escondido. The event began with a VIP Taco & Tequila Reception. The Mariachi concert that followed
featured Grammy-nominated Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles (the First Ladies of Mariachi); Mariachi Garibaldi
from Southwestern College; Mariachi Toreros from the University of San Diego; and Ballet Folklórico Tierra
Caliente. Directed by Jose Jaimes, the artists performed traditional dances from various regions in Mexico.
The sold-out event benefited the Route 78 Rotary Club’s education and charitable programs for children
and youth in North County.
Mission Fed continues to support local organizations
in San Diego and believes that giving back to the
community is our responsibility. We are thankful to
our volunteer employees for their continued support.

El Zapatón (The Big Shoe Drive)
Mission Fed proudly sponsored the El Zapatón or The Big Shoe Drive on UniRadio’s Pulsar 107.3 FM and
Invasora 99.7 FM Spanish-language radio stations. Our month-long effort helped raise 560 new and semi-new kids
shoes for children in need at Father Joe’s Villages. The campaign wrapped up on April 23, 2016 at JC Penney in
Plaza Bonita Mall. Our goal of 500 shoes represented the number of homeless children in San Diego.
CFO of the Year Finalist
Ron Araujo, Mission Fed CFO
since 2007, was a finalist for this
year’s CFO of the Year Award
hosted by the San Diego Business
Journal. With over 25 years of
leadership roles in the financial
industry, Ron is a financial expert who
also understands the human side of
the equation. Ron’s nomination was
partially based on the amazing work
he does with the Monarch School in
San Diego, which serves students who
are homeless, at risk of being homeless
or are impacted by homelessness. Ron
has served as President of the Board
of Directors of the Monarch School
Project. Countless Monarch School
Students benefit as a result of
Ron’s contributions.
Ron is now enjoying his new role as
President of Mission Federal Services,
LLC.
Congratulations, Ron!
Care Wear Check
Presentations
Mission Fed presented a check for
$1,500 to The American
Cancer Society and another
check for $1,500 to The San
Diego Humane Society.
These monies were raised by
employees at Mission Fed through
the Care Wear program, which
allows employees to wear casual
dress on designated days by making
a $5 donation. Giving a small
amount can make a big difference!
Science Delivered!
Angie Lasagna, VP Community
Relations for Mission Fed, was present
during a Science Delivered
field trip to Birney Elementary. This
nonprofit organization is dedicated to
bringing science to the classroom through
a mobile lab that provides a range of
STEM (science, technology, engineering
and mathematics) classes to elementary
school children in San Diego.
