for Transformation in Health
“has been based on the theme;
health for everyone. One of the
significant components of the
program is the health tourism.
Under the consideration of our
country‘s geographic, historical
and cultural structure, great
importance has been attached to
health tourism and developments
have been recorded thereof.
Within this framework, serious
works have been carried out
in this respect and our health
organizations have been
supported and strengthened both
in terms of infrastructure and
equipment as well as manpower
which is the indispensable factor
for the health services. Relevant
legislation works have been
completed.
Antalya, with more than ten
million visitors, is the third city in
the world which is visited most.
Antalya has an ever- increasing
potential in tourism and health
sector. In our province, there
are totally 2123 plants of which
874 of them are certified by
Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
There are around five thousand
patient beds in our hospitals. Our
objective is that; an environment
of confidence should exist which
requires to receive health service
from our province and every one
should leave Turkey with pleasure
and satisfaction for these services
provided.
Our works executed in
medical tourism are evaluated
comprehensively as elder and
disabled people due to medical
tourism and appropriate climate
of Antalya. Besides, emergency
health service is supplied to 10,5
million tourists visiting Turkey
within the scope of the health of
the tourist.
Our health potential is considerably
high. In our province; over
seventeen thousand health
personnel are employed in two
university hospitals, one training
and research hospital, fourty
hospitals of which twenty six of
them are private, six oral and dental
health, fifty 112 Emergency Health
Services stations and other health
organizations. Again, International
Patient Unit which has been
established in public hospitals
to meet emergency health
necessities of the tourists in our
company is in service for 24
hours.
When the services provide
within the scope of the
health tourism is observed,
the branches preferred most
are seem to be; eye diseases,
dental health, orthopedics,
brain surgery, KVC, oncology,
plastic surgery. When our
existing health potential and
our city’s characteristics are
taken into consideration, in the
health tourism (spa-wellness
tourism, treatment for advanced
ages and disabled persons,
rehabilitation and care services
etc.) we have been continuing
our works for being a leader city.

based on experience and
knowledge for years and having
strong infrastructure, a world
famous brand name in the field
of health tourism as well.

Antalya is warmed by the Mediterranean sun and culture
and has all the ingredients that are vital to a healthy life,
including a fresh and temperate climate. Antalya’s healthy
population welcomes the world.
Medical tourism is a new and burgeoning field in Antalya.
The city has an accommodation capacity of more than
half a million and hosts 11 million tourists per year. Antalya
is one of the cities that has recognised and uses its strong

Antalya is a kind capital of tourism; hosting historical and natural
beauties in which all kinds of transportation opportunities are easily
provided, having higher hotel management standards, and in which
qualified medical people with advanced health infrastructure are living
therein.
Antalya; with a surface area of 20.723 km2 and a population of 2.092.537,
having a special 640 km-coast line, is a rich city with its historical places
and ruins. In the economy of Antalya; tourism, trade and agriculture
are at the fore front, and industrial activates have been developing
improvements recently. Besides, see, sand and sun tourism, the city has
a big liveliness and action due to its culture tourism, golf tourism, sports
tourism, congress tourism, yacht tourism, mountain tourism, tableland
tourism, winter tourism and health tourism which continue through the
year. Mediterranean University and International Antalya University are
available in Antalya and students utilize from all opportunities provided
by the modern education. There are two airports in Antalya; Antalya
Airport and Gazipaşa Airport. Around 60.000 planes are landing to
International Antalya Airport, within the scope of international flights,
which is one of the biggest airport of the Europe, and 345 direct
flight point connection are available. Antalya Airport meets around
ten million visitors coming from 182 countries. In terms of distribution
of tourists visiting Turkey in 2012 according to border gates; 35%
of them are entering through Antalya, and the 38% of the tourists

are totally 874 touristic plants of which 299 of them have five- star
qualification in Antalya and total number of beds is at a capacity to be
capable of hosting 437.000 guests. Besides, SPA-Wellness applications
are executed by professional teams at hotels. There are 15 golf courses
in Antalya and these courses are among the best destinations in Turkey.
Besides, Antalya is a destination which is preferred for camp works by
various professional sport clubs. Antalya is the top city among the cities
having blue flag-beaches worldwide in 2013. Antalya is very favorable
for touristic actions in terms of its climate for 12 months a year. Annual
temperature average is; 18, 4°C’dir, mild climate conditions are a factor
of preference by all age groups year-round.
Health sector has made breakthroughs in Turkey in recent years, the
quality and efficiency of it has been raised. In Turkey, health sector
serves in European standards with modern hospitals, its raised
manpower, expert doctors, technological infrastructure and experience.
All hospitals in Turkey have international service quality and most of
private hospitals have been certified by world- famous accreditation
institutions. Coordination of health services supplied to foreign
patients within Ministry of Health is provided by Health and Tourism

Support Department. Furthermore, in case of emergency; phone no:
112, and for complaints; phone no: 184 also provide foreign- languageservices. Works and transactions supplied to foreign patients in Antalya
in relation with health services are followed up by Antalya Health
Directorate Provincial Tourism Department.
In Antalya, health quality and infrastructure has also developed in
parallel with the general level of Turkey. In total; there exist; 14 public
hospitals, 26 private hospitals and 2 university hospitals, 22 private
branch centers, 23 dialysis centers, 5 treatment centers for supporting
reproduction, 6 oral and dental health centers, 20 policlinics, 78 mouth–
dental health polyclinics, 1 hyperbaric oxygen treatment center, 2
organ transplantation centered laboratory and institutions. All relevant
organizations are licensed by the Ministry of Health. All organizations
in Antalya supply service in accordance with National accreditation
criteria and audited by the Ministry of Health; 2 private hospitals have
JCI quality certificates. Foreign visitors in Antalya are supplied health
service in existing health organizations in all branches. With its raised
manpower and qualified expert physicians, Antalya plays a leading
role in health tourism. Antalya health tourism service areas are; Eye,

In 2012, 78.000 foreign visitors who visited Antalya but required medical
service were provided health service. 8300 foreign patient have come to
Antalya as scheduled within the scope of health tourism and were treated.
All kinds of services which may be needed by the visitors during the
period beginning from arriving to Antalya and until leaving are provided
by expert health personnel and other officials. The primary double arm
transplantation made in 2010 and the primary face transplantation made
in 2013 in Mediterranean University Medical Faculty has been concrete
evidence showing the developments achieved by Antalya. 4 of face
transplants which indeed is achieved very limitedly worldwide have been
made in Mediterranean University Medical Faculty. With the most highest
number of participants occurred within almost one hour-time in the organ
donation campaign organized by Antalya Health Directorate in 2013, the
relevant Guinness World Organ Donation Record has been broken in this
respect. Antalya became a brand name in organ transplantations.
In the content of the Guide; Antalya’s cultural and natural beauties,
modern accommodation facilities, favorable climate conditions, qualified
health manpower and qualified developed health infrastructure are
introduced, it is thereby aimed that; health tourists who wish to
utilize from health services could reach those health services which
they need. Both due to city’ s historical and cultural richness and its
development level in the field of health, health tourists utilize health
services throughout 12 months in Antalya and also able to find an

Antalya Training and Research Hospital
Antalya Training and Research Hospital is the biggest hospital of
Antalya Public Hospitals Group and is among most advanced hospitals
in the region, with its services in all branches.
Antalya Training and Research Hospital; competes with European
countries with cutting- edge technology, infrastructure, manpower
quality and further qualifications. It is and accredited hospital with its
quality approved by T.R. Ministry of Health and according to national
HKYS criteria. Therefore, the hospital; while supplying health services,
aims to provide timely service, to prioritize the safety of the patients and
their relatives, to provide the occupational safety and satisfaction of
the employees, to support qualified system approach with education
and to serve a sustainable service concept, to increase the awareness
of team work, and develops every passing day with the purpose of a
being a fair and principled hospital respecting to ethical values.
Antalya Training and Research Hospital began to serve in 2005 with
its modern architect over and area of 122.600 m2. It is one of the best
and modern hospitals of the region with its convenient and safe patient
rooms and living spaces. 1158 doctor and nurse staff, information, public
relations and administrative personnel staff serve in the hospital. There
are 900 patient bed, 72 intensive care bed, 25 surgery room, MR and
BT etc. examination rooms and serve in all branches.

DIALYSIS SERVICES
There are totally 25 dialysis devices under service in our hospital.
Number of seance is around 11440 per year. We provide dialysis service
to the dialysis patients who visit our region for holiday purpose and we
help them to make a healthy and peaceful holiday.
MEDICAL ONCOLOGY CHEMOTHERAPHY UNIT
3 Policlinic rooms, 40 private cure – chaired chemotherapy halls, semi
automatic medication unit and 1 meeting hall in which hospital neoplasm
conventions are held are available.
Drugs are prepared in special sterilized room through semi automatic
systems by our experienced health personnel and applied subsequently.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE, PET-CT
In the Nuclear Medicine Unit; service is supplied by 1 Densi-meter
and 1 Gama Camera. Positron Emission Tomography + Computerized
Tomography (PET-CT), advanced two imaging systems are being used
together, thus a detailed imaging of human body is available by this
technological procedure.
CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY
RADIATION ONCOLOGY CENTER
Devices used in our hospital which entered into service in 2011;
Linear Accelerator; supplies electron energy in five different stage, with
6-18 MV level X ray energy and is used for deep and surface settled
neoplasm cure. IMRT techniques which determine the quality of the
therapy are uses successfully.
GE Trade Mark 8 – cross section Computerized Tomography Device can
take qualified tomography and images and support us accordingly.
CMS-XİO system is used as treatment planning system

consultancy and interventional operations. 5 patients are intervened as

operations are achieved.
In the Angio unit; 2 angio devices are available.

Cardiology inpatient service is under service with 12 - bed capacity, 2.

RETINOPATY OF PREMATURITY DIAGNOSIS TREATMENT CENTER
In this center which entered into service in 2011, 35-40 patients are
admitted per week averagely.
BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION CENTER
COMPREHENSIVE ONCOLOGY CENTER
Our clinic entered into service in 2008 and involves; 1 Assistant Professor,
2 Side Branch Assistants, 1 Intern Physician, 1 Internal Diseases Assistant
and Nurse staff. Chemotherapy applications are available both for
outpatient and inpatients.
Bone Marrow Transplantation Center Clinique serves as 7 bedcapacity service, Apheresis Unit: consists of private unit stem cell
separation and keeping units in which blood components and stem
cells are segregated and collected through special procedures and
special devices.

11 polyclinics. In this Clinic; 1 professor, 1 assistant professor 3 heads

personnel are being employed. Inpatient hospitals generally consist
of those who have been suffering from infection in spinal cord or post
trauma – lesion, paralyzed persons after palsy and muscle diseases. 2
EMG devices are in service therein. In Ultrasonic laboratory, diagnosis
purpose- assessment and interventional operations are applied. With
ISOMED2000 device used in Isokinetic Laboratory, power tests and
power exercises may applied. Patients having the risk of fell down
and having vestibular problems are applied tests and exercise by
Tetraks posturography device. By TANİTA MC-180MA device; body
composition may be determined and exercise prescription may be
offered. In the room designed for cerebral palsy rehabilitation; kids are
applied exercise and training program. By the injections including dry
injection, PRP and trigger point applications, kinesiotheraphy, active
and resistant exercises may be applied. In Electro - therapy section,
ultrasound, combined electro - therapy, TENS, traction, short wave
devices are available and patients suffering pain may be cured.
Antalya Training and Research Hospital Brain Surgery Clinic serves
with its 30 bed capacity 1 brain surgery service, 3 policlinics and 1
surgery room available for 7 days a week and an additional surgery
room available two days a week. Around 1300 operations are achieved

Hematology Clinic
Hematology clinic consists of 24 -bed capacity service and 7 - bed
capacity stem cell transportation unit. In our Clinic, all hematologic
diseases may be diagnosed and treated (Acute leukemia, chronic

multiple myeloma, anemias, thalassemia other hemoglobin diseases,

The alluvial plain that stretches more than 100
kilometers along and 40 kilometers inside the eastern
shores of the Gulf of Antalya was known as Pamphylia
in ancient times. The Taurus Mountains rise to the north
of the plain, watering it via numerous rivers and streams

Perge
Even though Termessos is a Pisidian city, it always was a part of the habitat
and production area of the Antalya region. The city was established thirty
kilometers to the northwest of Antalya between two rock formations and is
famous for holding out against the forces of Alexander the Great. The ruins
of Termessos are testimony to the affluence of the city, and remain largely
intact thanks to the inaccessibility of its location. It is clear that the city’s
extraordinary wealth is largely based on the revenue generated by the ancient
road linking the port cities of the gulf to Ephesus in Western Anatolia. Traces
of this road still exist, even if they are limited to the valley north of the city,
known as the Strait of Yenice. Termessos is a veritable open air museum with
its city walls, agora, theatre, odeon, temples, cisterns, gymnasia and many
remnants of sarcophagi.
Perge, the nearest of the Pamphylian
cities to Antalya.
It had access to the sea through the
Kestros River (Aksu) and was a major
Center of the cult of Artemis, one
of the most widely venerated of the
Ancient Greek deities.
When St. Paul and his companions
first embarked on their missionary
journey the Bible states: “From
Paphos, Paul and his companions
sailed to Perge in Pamphylia...” This
verse demonstrates the crucial link
of the city to the sea. The gate on
the eastern side of the city walls is
known as the Port Gate because
boats could reach the outskirts of the
city from the Kestros River.
Perge was occupied by the Persians
in the 6th century BC, while in the 4th
century BC it was invaded by the
armies of Alexander the Great. The
city later came under the rule of the
Romans and its ally Pergamon.
Perge was the most affluent city
in Pamphylia and this affluence
manifested itself in the city’s
infrastructure in the 2nd and 3rd
century. Since the beginning of the
2nd century, the civic and public
buildings of Perge often contained
the inscription of Plancia Magna, the
high priestess of the Cult of Artemis,
belonging to the prominent Plancius
family.
Termessos is one of the most popular sightseeing
destinations not only in Antalya, but also in Anatolia

transplant was conducted in Akdeniz
University Hospital. The patient, who
was born without a womb as one out of
every 5.000 women in the world are,
became the first woman in the world who
underwent a successful uterus transplant,
in Akdeniz University Hospital, in August
2011. The transplant operation was made in
August 2011 and then a successful embryo
implantation was made.

Prof. Dr. Tuncer Karpuzoğlu Institute of Organ Transplantation &
Organ Transplantation Research, Education and Application Center
Akdeniz University has embraced organ transplantation activities in
our country and has always played a leading role in education and
research services in this field. It has been the “Organ Transplantation
Center Model” with its properties such as its medical service quality
level in Organ and Tissue Transplantation practices, patients’ and their
relatives’ satisfaction, its high quality team, modern infrastructure and
emphasis upon education and scientific studies. Organ transplantation
practices that started in 1982 with kidney transplant continue under
Organ Transplantation Research, Education and Application Center,
which was established in 1991, and under “Prof. Dr. Tuncer Karpuzoğlu
Institute of Organ Transplantation”, which was established in 2010.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dinçkan, who has been the director of this
Center and Institute for 2 years, was educated in General Surgery and
Organ Transplantation in this institution, and currently continues to
work in this field together with his surgical and clinical team. In this
Center; cadaveric and live-donor kidney transplants, cadaveric and livedonor liver transplants, cadaveric transplants of organs like pancreas
and heart, as well as composite tissue (face, extremity, skin, bones…)
and cornea transplantations are successfully conducted. Since 1982,
besides the routine practices of 3142 kidney, 232 liver, 67 pancreas
and 57 heart transplantations, combined organ transplantations
23 of which were kidney-pancreas, 6 were kidney-liver and 2 were
heart-kidney, also cross-live-donor kidney transplants and 910 cornea
transplants have been conducted. Furthermore; in 2010, the first
double arm transplant in Turkey and 2 full face transplants, and in
2011, the world’s first cadaveric uterus transplant were all conducted in
this Center. Considering the number of the patients in paediatric age
group, whose transplantations were made or who are being followed,
Akdeniz University is in the leading position as a paediatric kidney
transplantation Center, even in the whole European region. In addition,
donor operations are conducted with the Laparoscopic, that is closed,
method in live-donor kidney transplant operations.
Antalya Emergency Health Services (Call 112)
Provincial Ambulance Command and Control Center started its services
in 1996, within the scope of Antalya Provincial Directorate of Health,
with 72 personnel and 7 ambulances.
The number of personnel increased to 809, and that of active
stations to 50, until 2013. The institution renders its services with 70
ground ambulances, 1 obese ambulance, 1 air ambulance, 3 motorbike
ambulances, 2 four stretcher ambulances and 2 snow palette
ambulances, in total 79 ambulances.
In 2012, 82.800 local and foreign patients at the provincial level utilised
from this service, and it is expected that this number would increase by
25% and reach 100.000+ by the end of 2013.
National Medical Rescue Teams (UMKE)
It defines the National Medical Rescue Teams, which is composed of
the health personnel, who are specially trained to engage in medical
rescues in disasters and extraordinary situations.
UMKE provides the professional health service necessary for the disaster
victims to survive and maintain their lives healthily, by providing “Basic
and Advanced Life Assistance”, from the first moment, in which the
disaster victims were reached, onwards.
Antalya UMKE was established in 2005. It takes place in nationwide

Antalya is one of the biggest cities of Turkey with its topography,
considering the height of Toros Mountains and the 640 km long
coastline. In such a big topography, transportation of the patient to the

The air ambulance, which enables the health personnel to reach to the

The Antalya State Symphony Orchestra, which also serves as
the accompanying orchestra for the Antalya Piano Festival, offers
a varied programme for their audience every Friday at 20:00
between the months of October and May. The concerts are held
at the Antalya Cultural Center during the season. The orchestra
hosts many soloists and conductors from Turkey and abroad and

The most magical hues of white and blue can be
seen with a cable car visit to the summit of Mount
Tahtalı. Such a trip will take the visitors to a height
of 2365 meters in 10 minutes enabling them to
witness the majestic views of the Gulf of Antalya.
Five of the top ten recommended diving
sites in Turkish waters are located in
Antalya. The region also includes 12
major world renowned diving spots. A
temperate climate in the area lasting
12 months of the year allows for yearround diving and offers excitement for
adrenaline lovers. However, in some
areas diving is prohibited, in which case
those who want to dive individually
should get prior information from
diving schools. There are a number of
professional diving schools that stand
out, and more than half a million dives
