Open House 2016
Military College of Signals (MCS), a campus of National University of
Sciences and Technology (NUST) is among the pioneer academic institutions of Pakistan in the field of Telecommunication Engineering. It is also
the leading institution which started Software Engineering and Information security programs after becoming a constituent campus of NUST.
MCS gives immense importance for imparting quality education and
overall grooming to its students. Deliberate R&D in the field of Telecommunication, Software Engineering and Information security through an
effective academia and industry linkage, not only provides economical solution but also ensures availability of QoS throughout the life cycle. The
role of a well-developed industry in the progress of nations has been well
recognized. MCS always makes an effort to contribute to the national progress through productive research projects. Following its precedence faculty and students are presenting sixty useful and interesting projects related to Telecommunication, Software Engineering and Information Security
this year. Efforts are being made to address the actual problems/issues being faced by the industry and society. In order to present our research

Android Smart Phone Based Small Satellite
The aim of the project is to design a prototype of an android smart phone
based small satellite. The satellite based on Android smart phone is relatively a new concept. Satellites namely Strand-1 (University of Surrey
Space Centre, UK), Alexander, Graham and Bell(Ames Labs, NASA)
have been successfully launched during last two years. On similar concept
of Strand-1 this project aims at design and development of electronic
hardware and software of a small satellite (approx 2-3 Kg) based on Android smart phone and COTS microcontroller. The satellite is being
named as PKSATPHONE. The project will be low cost and utilizes COTS
components such as a smart phone and Arduino/Atmel based microcontroller architecture. The electrical design consists of, (1) On Board Computer (OBC) and sensors (Accelerometers, GPS, Gyroscope, Magnetometers) built-in Android smart phone, camera sensors. The microcontroller
will be used to capture the data from built-in sensors in the smart phone
being used to measure attitude, position and velocity of the satellite. In
addition the ability of smart phone to act as OBC will be tested by relay
the data from microcontroller to smart phone through USB port.

Design and Development of Communication and Power System for
Android Smart Phone Based Small Satellite
The satellite based on Android smart phone is relatively a new concept.
Satellites namely Strand-1 (University of Surrey Space Centre, UK), Alexander, Graham and Bell (Ames Labs, NASA) have been successfully

project, aims at design and development of communication and power
system of small satellite, based on Android smart phone and COTS microcontroller. The satellite is being named as PKSATPHONE.
This project consists of: Communication transceivers for uplink and
downlink, Power system based on Li-ion Batteries and Photo Voltaic (PV)
Solar cells. Communication transceivers will serve the purpose of communication with RF waves from ground station to satellite station and
vice versa. To produce the amount of power needed for a satellite to function and to meet the power demands of its on-board instruments, power
system will be designed.

ADD-ON Security Module for Radio Set (RF-5800 H)
The Add-on module is intended for highly secure communication over
high frequency radio used in Army. The module would employ state of
the art encryption. Currently available encryption in HF radio set is of foreign origin, has limited security value and is unable to fetch user confidence. Therefore, designing an add-on module indigenously would not
only be of better security but would also satisfy user upto greater extent.
The system can be implemented into already existing radio networks for
end-to-end encryption without the necessity of changing radio communication infrastructures. The module will pick data from user, encrypt it and
send it to radio set. A radio set on the other end will receive data and send
it to module that will decrypt it.

Zigbee Based Industrial Control and Monitoring System
Industrial Monitoring and control system brings forth a template for an industrial monitoring system using ZigBee Modules through various sensors.
The standard used for the communication is IEEE 802.15.4 specification
which is fast and reliable. The sensors acquire the data from the machine
and transmit it to the coordinator ZigBee at the user end. The PC interface
displays and stores the data. Data Processing is done through microcontroller and Arduino. The machine is controlled and monitored either manually or automatically in different circumstances from the user controlled
graphical user interface at the coordinator end. Various measures can be
taken to control the machine in different circumstances. The system prototype is focused in alerting, monitoring and controlling various machines
in the industry from a single point and to minimize any kind of damage
that could occur due to over heating or other such conditions.

Smart UGV
This project is based on the artificially intelligent navigation system of
the Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV). Unmanned Ground Vehicles
don‟t need any commands from the operator to find its path from one
place to another. Once the operator places some destination GPS coordinates, the UGV finds its path to the destination and it will automatically
deals with the hurdles in the path. This will done by using different types
of sensors like GPS, Electronic Compass and Ultrasonic sensor etc. It
will also use artificial intelligence methods to find the shortest path and
avoid the hurdles in its path and follow the algorithms to find alternatives
paths or avoid hurdle.

Fiber Optics Based Intrusion Detection System
To design a hardware project that enables us to detect any intrusion
across the perimeter of Border or any desired area using optical fiber.
The project will be designed using optical hardware and matlab software. The intrusion would be detected using OTDR principle (based
on reflection and principle of interferometry). Methods such as „time
delay of arrival‟ will be implemented to achieve localization.
The security challenges are increasing day by day in our country, so
our defense strategy demands the production of such systems which
are reliable and qualitative and meet the modern standards of security
measures. This project is one of the blocks of such a building which
our research and development department is interested to build. The
use of this system will ensure quick detection and locating the target
more efficient. This hardware would locate the target in real time. It
has the following advantages
It requires low power and can be implemented across long perimeter.
Fiber optic intrusion detection sys can detect any attempt to cut, lift,
crawl, climb over a fence or detected area .Light weight and can be
easily installed on a fence or buried in the ground.

Intrusion Detection & Identification Using Seismic Sensor
The project aims to track and sense the movements above ground
through vibrations (Seismic sensors would be used for this purpose).
The project would be installed underground and would track all the
movements above the ground and notify about the nature of the moving object by acquiring the data, then analyzing it and finally implementing it on the Arduino. It has extremely low power consumption,
high detection capability, and low false alarm rate. This project
would be helpful in the ongoing military operations and in other
safety purposes for object identification and securing the environment to the maximum.

Secure Data Communication using Stream Cipher Trivium
Trivium is a stream cipher that is used for fast encryption. Secure
Communication can be achieved by this stream cipher implemented
on Arduino and Xbee. According to IEEE research paper that has
been published in April 2015 , Trivium has been declared non attackable because of its randomness in key generation.

Traffic Management System
Traffic Management System aims at avoiding the problem of Traffic
Congestion which is a major issue being faced by Pakistan‟s Corporate
Sector in general. Traffic jams cause loss of fuel, time, energy, unnecessary wear and tear of vehicles and psychological stress. Due to this,
production, distribution and consumption of goods and products are affected. Traffic Management System is based on existing Global System
for Mobile and Global Positioning System technologies. The systemintends resolving the problem of traffic congestion. The location of
a target vehicle is continuously monitored through map based software
at the monitoring unit. The level of congestion is determined based on
human judgement through visual techniques and a warning message is
sent to the target vehicle indicating a traffic jam at a specific location.
This alerts the driver to change the route.

Design Simulation and Implementation of Reconnaissance and
Surveillance Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV)
This UGV is designed to provide remote reconnaissance while removing troops from excessive danger in today‟s ever-changing threat environment which remains a key challenge for commanders and operators. This Rconnaissance UGV is easy to control, smaller in size and
user friendly. Our main goal is to design a UGV that can be controlled
through control room and secondly can also be moved autonomously
or by an Android application. The vehicle will monitor the environment of the place and get visually familiarize with the terrain of that
place. For more precise data of the terrain different sensors are
placed.The scope of the project is to develop an Unmanned Ground
Vehicle for reconnaissance and surveillance purposes. The proposed
project has following scope:
 Monitor and visual familiarization with the terrain of that place.
 Work for extended durations without human intervention.
 Determination of path for the vehicle by control
and navigation techniques.

Automated Quality Control System for Detection of Faulty
Medicine Packaging
The Medicine Industry has a vital role to play in the society. This industry is responsible for providing the public with means to address
health problems. The nature of their work demands a great need for
the quality assurance of the products. Currently most industries are
using manual labor to ensure that defected medicine packaging is
not passed onto the market. There are usually 8 to 10 persons per
single production line, responsible for maintaining standardized
quality. The need to automate this process was felt.
This project is mainly based on image processing and signal processing; so through this project we wish to integrate our theoretical
knowledge with practicality to gain further insight in the field of
electrical engineering and refine our skills in the field of wireless
communication and signal processing for practical lives ahead.

Safe Mining--Early Detection of Mining Disasters using Zigbee
Network
Safe Mining provides the prototype for an underground coal mine
monitoring system using a network of XBee modules through sensors.
It is based on ZigbeeIEEE 802.15.4 specification, a suite of high-level
communication protocols used to create Personal Area Networks with
small, low-power digital radios. The network is low power, low cost
and smaller in size besides being self-healing and self-forming. It will
allow devices to communicate with multiple other devices in the network along with the feature of greater flexibility against interference
by provision of multiple paths to the destination. It consists of sensor
nodes/routers deployed in different parts of the mine using mesh topology. Data processing is done by the use of Arduino kits and microcontrollers. The system prototype is aimed at making it safer to work
in harsh environments like underground coal mines as it monitors the
concentration of deadly gases and other environmental factors in order
to alert the workers in a timely fashion thus saving precious human
lives.

Wide Band MIMO Antenna For Mobile Phone
Wide band MIMO antenna is a dual-port planar multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with wide bandwidth. This MIMO
antenna is achieving a wide bandwidth from 0.8 GHz to 3 GHz, fully covering the 2G bands of GSM900/GSMI800/GSMI900, 3G
bands of TD-SCDMAIWCDMA/CDMA2000 and 4G (LTE) bands
whereas the rest of antennas does not support all(2G,3G,4G) at
once. Its Reference point is -6dB, which is much better than most of
antennas . Besides, the envelope correlation coefficient and mean effective gain are also studied. The planar structure and good diversity
performance make the MIMO antenna very suitable for mobile terminals like smart phones

Seismic Feature Detection
Field of seismology comprises of data inspection, visualization and
signal classification. Identification, visualization and analysis of highdimensional multivariate seismic data set is difficult as humans are
more proficient at comprehending data in lower dimensions than higher dimensions. Humans can imagine images up to 3-D but if they want
to visualize 25 attributes at the same time that is not possible.
We want to design an automatic method which clusters the attribute
volumes of seismic images using self-organizing maps to aid geoscientist in visualization of multiple features at an instant. For that purpose our algorithm uses clustering technique Self-Organizing Maps
(SOMs) for a data-driven feature selection, visualization and clustering of attributes.

Ultra Widebande High gain Antenna With Band Notch Charac
teristics
The orthodox wireless systems were long-range narrowband systems, but in order to use the available spectrum, now, UWB (UltraWideband) short-range systems are being used which consume low
power and built using low-priced digital components. The Microstrip
Antennae are designed to implement UWB systems, because they
show effective results for broadband antennae. Ultra-wideband
(UWB) antennae are by far the most essential elements for UWB
systems. With the launch of the 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz band, applications for short-range and high bandwidth portable gadgets are major
research areas in UWB systems. Consequently, the acknowledgment
of UWB antennas in printed-circuit systems within comparatively
small substrate areas is of major significance.
Project focuses on the integration of various gain and bandwidth enhancement techniques to design and fabricate a high gain ultra wide
band antenna which is not only compact in size but also has better
fractional bandwidth and a very high gain. Ultra Wideband antennas
have many applications. Some of them include satellite communication, radar imaging. Ultra wide band antennas have broad spectrum
and are for unlicensed applications.

Real-Time Motion Magnification
There are certain vital changes in this world that cannot be perceived with the naked human eye such as pulsation in wrist, color
changes on face due to blood perfusion, motion of head due to
breathing etc. Real-Time Motion Magnification aims at magnification of these changes using digital image processing techniques in
real time. The technique used is Eulerian video magnification
which has at least two times the efficiency and accuracy as compared to previous video magnification techniques. It is an inexpensive, easy to use and portable technique which can magnify minute
details and small variations. Hardware will be implemented on
Raspberry Pi kit using Python. Camera and LCD are integrated for
recording and display.

Multiple Sensing Based Intrusion Detection System
Ground monitoring of areas of high strategic value is necessary in
today‟s security sensitive world. Hence, the ability to monitor an area for intrusion detection by using Wireless Sensor Networks
(WSNs) is of great practical importance. We designed a system capable of reliable, robust and efficient monitoring for human intrusion detection, using multiple sensors. The system allows a group of
cooperative but autonomous sensory devices forming a wireless network to detect human presence within the deployment area and also
track the positions of moving target. Sensor nodes are small in size
so that undetectable to intruders and are energy efficient having battery life up to 60 days. Base station has map, UAVs, and Infrared
cameras to monitor the exact position of intruder.

Communication on the Move (COTM)
Future battle field would require rapid and reliable satellite communication during force advance, quick reaction force and disaster recovery for areas not properly lit up by terrestrial means. Therefore,
satellite communication on a mobile platform would be required to
meet such critical demands. This research is aimed at design and
development of control and navigation system for a high speed satellite communication on the move terminal based on parabolic dish
antenna. An already existing VSAT terminal along with baseband
equipment of satellite communication laboratory at MCS is being
utilized for the purpose. COTM terminals require real time navigation and pointing accuracy of VSAT antenna towards the Geostationary satellite as it moves. In order to accomplish this task the
system would require mechanical and electronic system development. Mechanical system comprises of (1) an antenna mounting

Aiding System for Visually Impaired People (Vision-Pi)
Vision-Pi is a multifunctional aiding device designed especially for
visually impaired people which detects obstacles, recognize various
objects and monitors healthcare through digital image processing,
circuit designing, programming and prototyping. The processing unit
is based on Raspberry Pi kit and the chosen coding language is Python. This aid will be able to give real-time information to the blind
about over-hanging obstacles along the travel path ahead of the user
through ultrasonic sensors and Arduino-UNO board, which sends the
results to R-Pi for further manipulation. The device also has temperature and pulse sensors for monitoring health. Image processing for
Face Detection, Image-to-Speech conversion and Currency Recognition is done with help of R-Pi camera module in OpenCV/Python. A
keypad is interfaced with R-Pi for user to access its multiple functions including object recognition, obstacle detection and health monitoring along with a speech output which helps the user to perceive
the environment and perform his chores much easily and efficiently.

Our project is based on layer 7(application) routing technique. Improvement for Quality of Service (QoS) is of great necessity for the
World Wide Web due to its increasing demand day by day. Through
our router we would be able to generate congestion free and improved network availability for the end users along with onboard
data processing for calculation of various valuable data statistics
which if implemented onto the CPU would cause deteoration in the
efficient memory usage. Present routing techniques depend upon IP
checking and OSPF routing protocol which are unintelligent. Layer
7 router would be able to forward data packets based on their routing protocols and intelligent bandwidth allocation and also data
processing to meet the data statistic needs of the day. The layer 7
router would be made on ARDUINO board which allows Software
Defined Networking (SDN) on it.

Real Time Vehicle Security System Through
Face Recognition
The issue of vehicle theft has been an unending challenge even with
recent advancement in car security systems such as the use of immobilizers, tracking systems and modified alarm systems which have in recent time occasionally constituted nuisance in the environment being
triggered even in the event of no safety issue, however irrespective of
these advancement the issue of car crime has not ended.
This project strives in offering an advance car security system that uses the results of a facial recognition in gaining an ignition response.
The project focuses on the utilization of the face image processing in
restricting access.
Our proposed device is a system application that, with the help of a
digital photo or video, has the ability of identifying or authenticating a
person. An automated thinking device which would only allow an authorized person to start the car .Camera is incorporated in a secure
place to take and process the image. Through face recognition system
will be able to differentiate between the authorized or unauthorized
person and identify the right person for use of vehicle. Ignition of car
would be entirely dependent on the results of the application system.
Another feature, Radio Frequency identification, is also introduced in
the car that will increase the easiness of the user. The objectives are

Implementation of Carrier Frequency Algorithm for OFDM.
OFDM is used in high speed communication systems like LTE. It
works by dividing the available spectrum in orthogonal overlapping
sub-carriers or by dividing a higher data rate link into low data rate
links. Thus OFDM, using orthogonal sub-carriers, achieve high data
rates at low bandwidth. However, OFDM is highly sensitive to carrier
frequency interferences. And, if carrier is affected by noise, orthogonality property is lost, which in turn severely affect system performance. The main aim of the project is to apply carrier synchronization
for an OFDM system. Our goal will be to maximize the system performance by applying synchronization.

Waveforms On SDR
Software Defined Radio technology aims to take advantage of programmable hardware modules to build Open architecture based radio
system software. This leads to device flexibility, software portability
and system upgradability.
This project focuses to develop VHF/UHF Narrowband and Wideband
waveforms for existing SDR platforms. The narrowband waveform
based on frequency modulation (FM) designed for audio transmission
and OFDM Wideband waveform designed for data transmission coded
in C++ and Python are implemented on the platform.
The project envisions creating a standalone Software Defined Radio
device dedicated to the transmission and reception of the indigenously
developed VHF/UHF Narrowband and Wideband waveforms. The
project will help to intrinsically maximize the benefits of SDR by
providing waveforms to manufacturers building commercial base stations, mobiles and small form-factor handheld radios to allow them to
reap the practical benefits of reusable, maintainable code. It will also
pave the path for the further development of the telecommunication
and information technology industry in Pakistan, making them capable to offer system based on latest wireless reconfigurable technologies.

Explosive Threat Responder Robot (ETRR)
This project outlines the strategy adopted for detection of minefield
and IEDs using various techniques. There are many countries including Pakistan are affected by landmines and IEDs which present a major threat to lives and cause economic problems. Landmines
are most used explosive device in insurgency areas by insurgents,
harmful because of their unknown positions and often difficult to detect where IEDs are the improvised version of detonating explosive
which is subject to the type and weight of explosive. The development
of new demining technologies is difficult because of the tremendous
diversity of terrains and environmental conditions in which mines are
laid and also because of the wide variety of landmines. Similarly
due to various triggering mechanism detection of IEDs are also big
challenges to the affected countries. Currently, detecting and clearing
mines demand specific expertise with special equipment. Several
different techniques have been so far devised for prodding out and defusing landmines/IEDs. Using one and other strategies this robot will
provide adequate security and protective measures to the moving
troops against minefields and IEDs. Robot will take command from
the user in the form of control signals and performs the required action. At present only three countries (USA,UK and Israel) have been
able to develop such counter IED equipment‟s. Though the project is
prototype but researching in subject will enhance the state of art use of
technology in future projects of military usage.

Hand Gesture Based Artificial Robotic Hand
Prosthetic body parts have always intrigued me. The research we
have witnessed and read about in the field have always inspired us to
try and find solutions to assist people with disabilities, this project
will be innovative step in that direction. It will be much more practical and potentially useful from a functional and economic standpoint.
Artificial arm controlled by a glove with flex sensor is an engineering
project with the goal of creating a system to provide haptic feedback
from a robotic arm. The robotic arm is controlled by hand gesture
with a glove worn on someone's hand and IR proximity sensor detect
the presence of nearby object, control signal is sent from human hand
wearing glove using nRF transmitter. At the receiver hand, proximity
sensor detects the object. In case of presence of object moment is
produced in robotic arm to move at particular location from one position to another. The object being sensed is often referred to as
the proximity sensor‟s target. The sensed object then grabbed by artificial hand. The hand and the glove both work with Arduino. This
project is simply a system of servos controlled via flex sensors and IR
proximity sensor meant to detect the object and grabbing the object
by the hand gesture of the individual.

Driver Aiding System
The aim of the project is to design a prototype safety system for the
driver. This safety system can be employed in any vehicle. It will alert
the driver once he/she feels drowsiness, furthermore this system can
apply brakes as well if driver doesn‟t come back to his/her senses.
Drowsiness of driver will be detected by image processing using the
beagle bone board and a camera. Drowsiness will be detected by continuously monitoring the frames captured and then taking the decision
to apply audio and visible warnings as an attempt to awake the driver
and then finally applying brakes as a last resort.

Microcontroller 8051 aided desktop encryption using AES Encryption technique

files in the hard drive of system to prevent its breaching. Microcontroller 8051 aided desktop encryption is using the Rijndael algorithm
also known as AES (Advanced Encryption standard). The purpose of
the using this algorithm is that it is still unbreakable algorithm after
many years of its introduction. Moreover the purpose of using this algorithm is that it use different keys for encryption and decryption of
the information i.e. it is using the concept of the symmetric encryption. In this way not only the confidentiality but also the authentication of the data is done. In short desktop encryptor makes it impossible to steal the information and implant any kind of rouge software
for the data breach. So any organization of any size can use our project to make their files secure. Especially this project would be quite

Design of a Layer 3 Switch using ONL (Open Network Linux)
Open Network Linux is a Linux distribution for "bare metal" switches,
that is, network forwarding devices built from commodity components.
ONL uses ONIE to install onto on-board flash memory. Open Network
Linux is a part of the Open Compute Project and is a component in a
growing collection of open source and commercial projects. All the renowned switch vendors like Cisco, Huawei and others have backdoor in
their switches and no one wants backdoor in their switch. Moreover
layer 3 switch is fast as compared to a traditional layer 2 switch . We
will make our own NOS and hence customize the switch at core level
(source code) as per our requirements.

Based Hardware Firewall
A Hardware firewall is basically a protective barrier. A standalone
hardware firewall implementation on FPGA kit ensures secure communication. It will be inserted in between any network system and the internet and a controlled link will be established with a single checkpoint
where security will be imposed. Security is ensured by checking IP
packets entering the user network. The hardware firewall will be packet
filtering to examine the header of a packet to determine its source and
destination. This information will be compared to a set of predefined or
user-created rules that will determine whether the packet is to be forwarded or dropped.

Development of Low Cost Wireless System Using Cots Module
The purpose of this project is to design a Low Cost Wireless System
using COTS Module to meet the demanding needs of the soldier. The
project will be designed to meet specifications that were set to ensure
that the Low Cost Wireless System would be able to operate in a battle zone. This will be based on two modules; Controller Module and
RF Module. It uses commonly available RF hardware modules
(Zigbee modules, RTL-SDR) and Embedded Linux board. Developing firmware for interfacing the RF module and Controller Module is
a crucial step of the project. This will enable the Pakistan Army to
communicate securely without any danger of external threats or brute
force attacks.

Inpositioning system( IPS) is a system to locate objects or people inside a building using radio waves, magnetic fields, acoustic signals, or
other sensory information collected by mobile devices are several commercial systems on the market, but there is no standard for an IPS system.IPS systems use different technologies, including distance measurement to nearby anchor nodes (nodes with known positions,
e.g.,WiFi access points), magnetic positioning,d ead reckoning. They
either actively locate mobile devices and tags or provide ambient location or environmental context for devices to get sensed.localized nature
of an IPS has resulted in design fragmentation, with systems making
use of various optical, radio or even a coustic.
The real time positioning of users inside a building is an important issue in these systems. Wireless location-based services are having a
growing impact in the recent years.
Several techniques have been developed. One of the most useful and
known is the "fingerprinting" technique. The main issue that has to be
taken into consideration is that indoor location depends on several factors that do not apply in outdoor location such as refraction, reflection
and multipath. Moreover, an important economic factor exists; caused
by the need of a major infrastructure in indoor location networks, access points, sensors, etc.
The fingerprinting technique is based on the power level received by
the mobile phone for each of the access points in the wireless network.
One of the main problems in this technique is the fluctuations in the received signal power. This is due to several factors that depend on the
environment, such as the dampness, people presence, objects, etc.

FROM THINKING TO TEXT
Our brain is made up of billions of brain cells called neurons, which use
electricity to communicate with each other. The combination of millions
of neurons sending signals at once produces an enormous amount of electrical activity in the brain, which can be detected using sensitive medical
equipment (such as an EEG), measuring electricity levels over areas of
the scalp. The combination of electrical activity of the brain is commonly
called a Brainwave pattern, because of its cyclic, 'wave-like' nature. Our
mind regulates its activities by means of electric waves which are registered in the brain, emitting tiny electrochemical impulses of varied frequencies, which can be registered by an electroencephalogram.
Paralysis patients are those which loss or impairment of voluntary movement in a body part, caused by injury or disease of the nerves, brain, or
spinal cord. Due to this disease they are not able to communicate with
other people. To make them able to communicate we have developed this
application.
Now the patient wears the EEG headset, the EEG headset send the application the values of different types of brain waves and on the basis of these values our application will guess about the alphabet which the patient
was thinking. This program will be developed using Java.
The target population of our project is patient with paralysis, and the also
anyone can use this application for their own ease. The scope of work is
limited to getting brain waves values via EEG headset and the decision
support structure will be based upon it. Through this achieved recognition
of alphabets, this project can serve to become a basis for further development to speech recognition which will serve the paralyzed and otherwise
completely handicapped people to convey their inner most thoughts.

This Application is aimed to provide a platform for the end user to edit
images on an Android device.
It takes in two pictures from the user. One picture can be selected as the
base picture or as the background. By identifying and recognizing objects,
via manual cropping, the desired object can be extracted from the image
and then be stitched on top of Background image of the user‟s choosing.
The contours would be recognized by the help of some of the following
different well proven techniques, such as Edge and Corner Detection, The
Canny Edge Detector, The Sobel operator, Harris Corner Detection and
others like Hough transformations. To improve the primary or the secondary images, our system will provide the user the ability to apply different filters to the images, including basic filters such as Mean Blur,
Gaussian Blur, Median Blur, Sharpener, Dilation, Erosion and different
Threshold filters such as Binary Threshold and Threshold to Zero filters.
To make the editing and cloning of a selection region seamless we will
make use of Poisson partial differential equation with Dirichlet boundary
conditions which specifies the Laplacian of an unknown function over the
domain of interest, along with the unknown function values over the
boundary of the domain. The extent of the changes ranges from slight distortions to complete replacement by novel content.
The purpose of this app is to give the end user easy access to various image editing and image extraction techniques with the help of an easy to
use graphic user interface and minimal learning effort. Using this app the
end user can create amazing breath-taking pictures which can then be
saved to local storage or can then be shared among friends using the social media.

Computer programming is a skill which requires a lot of practice and time
to master it. Maintaining huge amount of data and performing big calculations can be very hectic and time consuming. By programming in certain
language we can develop such software which can help us maintain huge
data and perform big calculation in very short time and efficiently.
But what if someone wants to develop such software but he/she do not
have any knowledge about any programming language and do not have
any skills in programming? How can such person develop software? To
solve this problem we introduce a “VISUAL PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE” which contains set of predefined elements which users can drag
and drop into the work space and a complete working program/software
can be developed using only these elements without writing any line of
code.
This Visual Programming Language will provide graphical units/elements
which users can drag and drop. Each unit/element performs a specific
function. These graphical units/elements can integrated together to create
a working program or software. There is no need to write any line of
code. All the code is generated automatically at the back end.

Network monitoring is a difficult and demanding task that is a vital part
of a Network Administrators job. Network Administrators are constantly
striving to maintain smooth operation of their networks. If a network were
to be down even for a small period of time productivity within a company
would decline, and in the case of public service departments the ability to
provide essential services would be compromised. In order to be proactive
rather than reactive, administrators need to monitor traffic movement and
performance throughout the network and verify that security breaches do
not occur within the network.
Our application allows the Network Administrators to monitor, highlight
and diagnose any faults in their network. Different system parameters can
be selected to be kept in the database e.g. Host Name, MAC, Uptime,
Running Services, IP, Interface List, Bandwidth Usage etc. The logs of
these system parameters is also maintained. Any device disconnecting
from the network will pop up a notification to help the administrator
know if any node is down. The platform of the project‟s core is Linux
(Ubuntu) and it is developed using C. The GUI is web based so can be accessed from any system and is written in PHP. Main dashboard page consists of a graphical representation of the topology of the networks and
how devices are connected in them.
The target population of our project are the Systems Administrators and
Network Administrators. Our application will provide a system that can
be extended to handle the different types of monitoring a systems/network
administrator might need to look after their network in a unified fashion.
The scope of work is to produce a software that will provide for a graphical view of all the devices connected in the network with their respective
topologies, their specific device parameters, traffic amount being sent etc.

Opinions are one of the basic entities in human conversations. It is in human nature to have feelings and sentiments about the people and the happenings around them. Opinions and beliefs of people around us affect us
in determining what choices we make and what do we believe in. Humans
generally ask for opinion of other people when they need to make an important decision.
“UPCYCLER” is a stand-alone, application that can help us learn more
about sentiments of people about certain entities like events, ideas, products and individuals. The project aims to develop a web application that
extracts sentiments from text. The application will be designed to deduce
the public opinion and general sentiments of users about the current popular trends, politicians, company products and others. It will also be used to
extract relevant information from text and would help to understand the
significance of data by placing it in a visual context.
Popular sentiment analysis techniques and natural language processing algorithms are extensively used in the development of product. Naïve
Bayesian, a popular machine learning algorithm is used for evaluating the
sentiments in text. Labelled text from various sources is used for training
the model. A lexicon based model using Senti-WordNet 3.0 is also used
for initial labelling of training sets as well. Popular topics and opinions
found in text are visualized using a web interface.

Crowd Sources Intelligent Route Planner
The project is a Mobile (Android) application which will integrate with
the Google Maps and will give the best route with minimum ETA
(Estimated Time of Arrival) to a particular destination (selected by a user). It will use the Users Mobile GPS to track him/her on the route and
calculate the time (wherever he is going) and will save/Upload that time
taken on that specific time to the Application server which will later be
provided to the other users. Initially we will add the school/office timings
on the application server which will have a certain amount of uncertainty
in the ETA provided but as the users will grow in number and start to
travel using the application, the timings will get better support structure
will be based upon it.

Urdu Finger Reader Ring for Visually Impaired People
Visually impaired people and people with poor eyesight report numerous
difficulties with accessing printed text using existing technology, including problems with alignment, focus, accuracy, mobility and efficiency.
Many people also fail to get basic education because of their this disability.
We present a finger worn device that assists the visually impaired and
people with poor eyesight with effectively and efficiently reading paperprinted text in Urdu language (i.e Nastaleeq Font).
Ur-Ring is an index-finger wearable device that supports the visually impaired in reading printed text by scanning with the finger. The camera
captures the video in real time and after processing at the backend, it converts it into sound to be heard by the user. The device does not have many
buttons or parts in order to provide a simple interface for users and easily
orient the device.
According to an estimate about 1.5 million people are visually impaired
in Pakistan, hence the target audience of our project are the visually impaired and people with poor eyesight who face difficulty in reading printed text in their daily lives.

A Vehicle Management System is an iOS application which automates
personal vehicle management records by keeping a log of distance related
aspects of a vehicle and by automatically notifying end users regarding
their car management issues in time. It will save users a lot of time in efficiently and effectively managing their vehicles without having to keep a
manual log of everything. The application will offer a neat and clean interface which will require only minimum user input and would automatically log travelled distances and provide notifications for various maintenance related tasks associated with the life of the vehicle. The application
will use the inbuilt sensors of the phone like GPS and would record the
distances automatically and maintain a database for the user to keep track
of his vehicle‟s maintenance schedule.

Angiography and Thallium Scan of the patient concurrently on screen for
the heart specialist to analyse. Analysing screen is graphical and highly
responsive while Diagnostic results are also shown in an intuitive manner
with clarity for users. System is trained to find blockages in different arteries. Doctor clicks on different arteries to view relevant pressure points
in Thallium Scan result and vice versa. System also offers an automated
diagnosis which will measure abnormalities in patients' test results and inform doctor. Doctors have an option to store data in system's database after analysing it.
The software uses JPEG & DICOM extensions to process images through
OPENGL and Java's pixel based libraries. Digital image processing techniques like template cutting, heat mapping and object recognition have
been used to make sure results are accurate and subject to zero errors.
Since System is Java-based, it is independent of the operating system and
provides easy to install setup procedure.
Doctors can configure the system to provide different diagnoses based on
the latest knowledge of arteries and pressure in heart with easy to use configuration menu.

Secure Android
The aim is to develop a secure version of Android which will address the
increasing use of mobile devices particularly in government bodies, with
the need for improved security. Android was chosen, for its widespread
use and the openness or adaptability of the platform.
The goal is to prevent external mobile apps from granting themselves extra privileges, prevent apps from sharing too much data and to prevent the
bypass of security features.
The main features of Secure Android are highlighted below:
 Isolated user profiles with limited access.
 Applications and services access and usage control.
 Runtime permission control.
 Secure browsing.
 Confined domains for system services and apps.
We are securing the operating system of Android by providing root access
to the primary user of the device. Target API level is 21, 22, and 23. We
are making changes to the operating system through root access in order
to make it more secure.
This new and more secure version is developed in order to provide Army,
Intelligence Agencies and Government Bodies with secure communication, information storage, system level device control and the ability to
use android phone without facing the vulnerabilities that the original version of Android faces.

Kinect Based Virtual Dressing Room
Shopping for garments is a common activity. A Shopper usually tries on
some selected dresses and examines how well they fit .A common practice for this purpose is to queue up and take turns to use the fitting rooms.
Due to the limited number of in-store fitting rooms, shoppers usually have
to spend most of their shopping time on queuing up. This causes a lot of
problems to both the customers and shop keepers.
Virtual dressing room is a desktop application using which Shoppers
would be able to see the visual image of how they look like by trying on
clothes virtually. To use this VDR environment, the customer needs to
stand in front of an interactive LED with a Microsoft Kinect sensor
mounted on it. Customer can see his/her video on the LED and a menu as
well, in which dresses are listed. Customer selects the dress and it will be
automatically mapped on his/her avatar Kinect is used to scan the skeletal
points of the customer which will be used for dress mapping and size recommendation. The project also includes maintaining a database of the
system. This will allow the manager to add, delete or update the dresses.
The platform of the project will be Microsoft Windows and it will be developed using C#.
The target population of our project includes Shopping malls, clothing
stores. It will help the customers to save time and it will also be a help to
the handicapped persons who face difficulty in trying out the dress. The
scope of our work is limited to 2D mapping of the dress to user.

IMS is developed keeping in view the importance of accessing data and
how it is presented to users working on it. The application is a web based
system which is designed to represent public-related information on tabular, graphical and geographical form. Location wise Maps are generated.
IMS provide web interface where information is entered, checked at unit
level and then passed to district and Administration headquarter. Main
dashboard of the application shows different activities of users .
The target areas of the project are many government and non government
organizations, that are working at unit level. They need location wise data
for their activities. Manually handled data is costly and causes delay. The
organizations need to represent data in order to cover more and more areas. There should be a platform that provides the required data in easy and
compact form. So there is a need of a web application which will minimize the cost and time of data gathering. The geographical representation
of data on map with the help of Google API in tabular form make the job
more prominent and easy, Moreover information will also be centrally
available.

Don’t Rush—its Jam There
Traffic jam is a major problem in large cities of Pakistan; lots of people get
stuck in jam for hours only because of lack of information about the route they
have chosen for drive. Don‟t Rush – Its Jam There is a system that facilitates
people for planning route to their destination by providing them traffic congestion information on the route. The system extracts congestion information from
videos of road captured from top-view.
Our system consists of two parts, the Server and the Client. The server part
does the image processing work on videos to extract information. Server application gets vehicles count and average vehicles speed from video. The application then decides congestion status. This system provides an interface to Users
on their smartphones as client part. Client is an android application. User of
this application request for information about specific route and in-turn Server
sends responded, this response contains congestion status and location where
camera was installed. Android App then show alternate route to the destination
depending upon the response from server. User can also explicitly ask for alternate route. The secondary object of this system is to give fog information to
user at location where camera was installed, when User request to server, server response with congestion status alongside with fog status on the route.
Server side of Don‟t Rush – Its Jam There is implemented in C#. Server runs
on desktop. Client side is implemented in Java, it runs on Android smartphone.
Server and Client interact through sockets. The main part of this system is image processing and it is done with the help of OpenCV, an open source image
processing library.
The target population of our system are benefited by using our Android application for the system. Users can plan there route without getting stuck somewhere in jam. Scope of our project is limited to work with videos instead of real-time camera feed.

Automate Clearance System And Maintain
Equipment Logs
Presently, clearance of students is done manually. This is done via printed
forms which are signed by the designated authorities after cross checking
the individual's entries on manually maintained log registers. This as a
whole is a very cumbersome process and results in pointless fatigue both
for the administrators and students.
This project aims out on automating the clearance system of department
of CSE. It also includes maintenance of equipment logs of labs and stores
incorporating the department of CSE. It is a web based System thus offering platform independency. Over the coming years, the respective administrators can maintain the records online. The available items would be
displayed to the students and would be issued upon online request. All the
record would be updated and stored on the system. Upon the clearance request, the system would automatically send the clearance request to the
respective authorities, the status of which would be visible to the student.
The request would strictly obey the hierarchy as per stated by the department. After the successful completion of clearance request, the student
can get the printed clearance slip.
If there is any requirement of checking the clearance approval of any student, Admin can see a student record that on what time his/her clearance
request was approved. System admin would update all the accounts and
inventory of the system.

SUMM-THE-SEARCH
Day by day with the extensive increase of internet data, its difficult to go
through every website to find manual solution of any query. Single Document summarization (SDS) has been used for summarization of internet
web pages so far.
Our Summ-the-Search an android application is using Multi Document
Summary (MDS) for internet search results to summarize multiple web
pages (English Language only), given as a result of a query search on
Google. First five web pages will be taken for summarizing. These web
pages will be first cleaned and pre-processed and then important information will be extracted using feature extraction technique. This will then
be used for multi document summarization. Summary length will be decided by the user of the application in terms of percentage. Query string
to meaningful summary (sentences) generation: Don‟t have to go through
each and every page of suggested link .So No longer feel the dilemma of
extracting information from multi dynamic pages.
The main fields is being used AI, Data Mining, Behavior analysis and different types of summary algorithms to produce meaningful results are being used.
It can be widely use by students as well as by office people. As it will be
saving a lot of time so general public will also be benefited. In short any
Google user can get help from this app an very easy way of gathering data

3D SCANNER
We see the physical world around us in three dimensions and yet the cameras we use are only able to acquire two dimensions which causes a lack
of depth in the images. The images from regular cameras cannot accurately record the form of the object. We aim to create a device that is able to
digitize the complete structure of an object. The 3D models created by
this device can be used for many purposes like making an animation or
visualization. They can be used to make design changes and make prototypes to make a new product. They can be used digitally analyze the damages in an object without harming the object itself and also compare similar objects. These models can also be used for archival purposes to record
the state of an object at a particular time.
The scanner gets its input from the camera. The object being scanned
would be rotated at a fixed interval of degrees. At every interval light
would be projected on to the object and an image would be captured by
the camera. The images captured by the camera would then be analysed
by the software. The software would check the deformation of the light
projections on the object and give depth to each image. The structured
light would be fed to the software before the object has been placed so
that it knows the shape of the light on a flat surface. The object would obstruct the light projection and cause it to change shape. The software then
would use mathematical formulas to check how the light structure differs
from the original shape of the light. The software will draw images consisting of the depth and bumps in the physical object by using the information after the analysis of the images and then combine the images to
give one whole digital 3D model.

ONLINE MEDICAL ADVICE SERVICE
The world is moving rapidly towards online platforms, every basic need
nowadays is available via the Internet. From online book stores to online
food courts every business is making its way towards the Internet. Keeping that in mind the project “Online Medical Advice Service” or “OMAS” is a step to move the medical assistance/services online so that
they are accessible widely all over.
This application will provide the means to communicate the problems of a
patient to a doctor and doctor to provide assistance in those problems. The
patients can communicate via chat or video call. The patient can also take
appointments from the doctor and can meet them personally in their clinics.
The project also includes maintaining a database of the system. This will
allow keeping the records of the doctors and patients and their communications and payment data. A doctor can register on the system by providing his details regarding his qualification and his area of expertise. A profile will be generated for the doctor. The patient can also register himself
by providing the necessary details and a profile will be generated for him
too. There is also be a question forum in which questions will be answered by the doctors which are put in by the patients. It is a Web application built in ASP.NET MVC 5.
