COREDANCE COMPETITION WEST VAN 2016 AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS & SPONSORS GENERAL INFORMATION COMPETITION PROTOCOL The backstage entrance will be open 1 hour before the start of each session. This area is for performers and studio representatives ONLY. Friends and family are asked to wait in the lobby before each session. Theatre doors will open approximately a quarter of an hour before the start of each session. ADJUDICATION ONLY: Entries in categories marked with ADJUDICATION ONLY will only receive a button award and critique during the following adjudication. They are not eligible for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in their category. DANCING AHEAD: Entries marked with DANCING AHEAD will not receive an award during the following adjudication. Since they are competing outside and ahead of their scheduled category, they will still be in the running for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place awards and will be awarded once their scheduled category has taken place. DANCED PREVIOUSLY: Entries marked with DANCED PREVIOUSLY are shown as placeholders in their category and signify that they are still competing against others in their category but were scheduled to perform ahead of time due to extreme prior commitments. Any questions or concerns may be addressed at the Rules and Regulations table located inside the theatre. A reminder that photography or recording of any kind will not be permitted inside the theatre doors and could result in disqualification of that performer. LOST AND FOUND: The lost and found bucket is located by the check in table back stage. Everything found will be placed there. CoreDance is not responsible for lost or stolen items. If items are left please check there first before contacting the Kay Meek Centre. The theatre will hold onto what is left on the last day of competition for only 30 days. Please see our Rules & Regulations, posted on our website, for complete information. MEDALS AND TROPHIES - HOW DO I WIN THEM? CoreDance is committed to creating an environment in which accomplishments are recognized, while fostering a sense of healthy competition. As part of this commitment, we reward participants through a two-tiered awards system. • Each dance is individually scored and awarded with a bronze, silver, gold, high gold or platinum standing based on the score level. • In addition, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd highest-scoring dances in each category are recognized with a medal (solos) or trophy (groups). We are proud of all of our dancers, and encourage everyone to let their own, oneof-a-kind light shine on our stage! ADJUDICATORS CHOICE: Each session, our adjudicators will award one Adjudicators Choice award to a dancer of their choosing. Each individual award is completely unique as the adjudicators created them as inspired by the dancers. They can range from “Most expressive dancer” to “Competition’s best abs”. Dancers will receive a CoreDance ribbon and a 5x7 photo of their choice from Techno Monkey Media. GALA INFORMATION COREDANCE AWARDS CEREMONY & GALA SHOWCASE May 15, 2016 // Kay Meek Centre – 1700 Mathers Ave Awards & Gala Ceremony @ 5:00pm At CoreDance we are all about appreciating and enjoying all the amazing styles of dance that take part in the competition. This year, we will get to see even more variety as the CoreDance Gala will now be showcasing the top soloists and groups across each one of our unique dance style categories, as well as the Triple Threat award winner. At the end of each day, CoreDance will post the day’s top highest-scored solos and groups in the lobby. These results do not guarantee a spot in the gala, but placing in the Top 10 of any day is a wonderful achievement in itself and we want to recognize those who make it! Dances that have qualified for Gala will be posted on our Facebook Page after competition is complete on May 14th: https://www.facebook.com/ coredanceproductions. Studio reps will be notified via phone call at that time if your dance has made it! The final selection of top scoring dances will perform in the CoreDance Gala at 5pm on May 15th. Dancers must be present in order to receive their prizes and CoreDance plaque. If an entry is unable to perform, the award will be passed on to the next deserving dance. The Triple Threat award winner will also be notified at the end of competition on May 14th. This award goes to a soloist who has competed in three or more categories and has the highest combined score. They will then receive the exciting opportunity to perform their highest scoring routine at Gala. As part of our Gala event, our adjudicators recognize other deserving young dancers who have been selected by our adjudicators during a special Awards Ceremony at the Gala. If for some reason you are unable to attend the awards ceremony portion of the Gala, make sure you have a friend or family member present to accept any award(s) on your behalf. Gala entry will be $15 ($12 for ages 12 and under).
