Acclaim Profiler
The Acclaim Profiler is a non-turning mattress developed for patients at medium to high risk of developing
pressure ulcers. It has been engineered to work at a higher than normal standard when used in
conjuncture with a profiling bed.
By introducing visco elastic "darts" into the sidewalls of the support foam, at the back and knee break
points, the mattress has been engineered to counter the damaging squashing and stretching
characteristics usually associated with the profiling process. Scalloped channels cut through the base of
the support foam, further aid the process.
The "U" frame, which supports the profiler foam has a density of 38-40kg/m3. By introducing an angled
edge to the internal part of the frame, rather than a standard verticle edge to the "U" shape, the mattress
wall has in fact been strengthened without reducing the dynamic properties of the material.
Foam engineering skills have been particularly well utilised in the manufacture of the core mattress area,
which is constructed using a softaflex foam, featuring a castellated pattern that aids the mattress profiling.
The pattern has been developed further than normal and incorporates a smaller cut ratio within the heel
area, to further aid support in this vulnerable section. This mattress is also available as the Acclaim Profiler
Classic, designed for use with the longer length beds.

Carrying handles have been introduced to aid moving and handling and a 35 stone weight loading has
been set for the mattress. The introduction of a non slip strip to the lower base area of the mattress aids
stability on the bed, and a zip covering three sides of the product makes access for inspection easier than

outer, two-way stretch, vapour permeable and waterproof top cover.

When areas of the body have been over stressed by prolonged pressure we automatically move position
and redistribute the weight. If the patient falls into a high-risk category and they are unable to redistribute
their weight successfully, a reddening of the skin will occur followed by a pressure area. If an area
becomes warm the cells require more oxygen to metabolise, conversely if the area is too cold the cells will
automatically produce less energy. In both cases the cells are prone to damage. The areas most likely to
be affected are those close to the surface - i.e. shoulder blades, elbows, sacrum, hips (pelvis) and heels.
Even if not 'at risk', general fatigue and degeneration, particularly in the spinal region, cause the individual
to reposition constantly in order to relieve aches and pains of everday living.
