Rocky Boy Stars
Christmas Edition
Santa wants us all to know that your letters
were received here at the North Pole. He
had to hire on new elves to take on all the
extra letters. Some of Santa’s elves did not
yet graduate from their English class, so
some of the letters aren’t up to Santa’s
standards.
Santa and Mrs. Claus came down with the
flu for a couple of days and were not able
to proof-read all the letters before they
were mailed out.

As you may have read
above, Santa was under the weather for a
few days, had to hire
on some inexperienced
elves, and was happy
Bullying and Cyberbulling
Many kids and teenagers
today are getting bullied.
In fact 30% of kids in the
United States grades 6-12
are involved in bullying.
Either as the bully, the
victim, or both. 54% of
the bullied have done or
are doing self-harm to
themselves because of
bullying.
One of the effects of
bullying is suicide. Did
you know, suicide is the
third leading cause of
death? Over 14% of high
school kids, attempted
suicide and about 7%
actually do it. About
160,000 students miss
school each day due to
fear of being bullied.
There are many different
types of bullying. One of
the main types of bullying
is known as ‘cyber bullying.’ Cyber bullying is the
act of which someone, or
some people harass you
using technology including, online web pages,
chat room, etc.
How do we put a stop to
bullying? You can not
stop bullying forever, but
you can help someone
from being bullied. When
you see someone getting
bullied, you can tell the
teacher, or an adult around
you. Also, you can stand up
to the bully. If you see someone getting bullied, you
should most definitely help
or get help.
Fiber Optics in the School
Whenever we (IT) can configure the Cisco
switch.
Does this add to the cost?
Wes Benally interviewed Mr.
Les Callas about the installation of the fiber optics here at
the school. Triangle Communications laid the cable during
2013 and started offering it to
homes and the school.
At first, the school was to be
connected in July of this year. Because of the high demand from home users, that was put off until after the
beginning of the school year. After
much persistence from the school’s
staff, Triangle finally brought the cable
to the school earlier this fall. Just getting the cable to the school was not
enough though. The school still had to
figure out a way to connect the high
speed with our dated system.
To find out what that process was,
exactly, Wes spoke with Mr. Callas.
The interview is below.
What is your job?
IT Administrator is my job title. I oversee all network, computers, software and repairs
for the whole school campus.
What had been your biggest challenge so far?
$39/Mo for DSL. $100/
Mo for Fiber optic. (All
costs are covered by a
grant.)
When will we be connected?
We are currently waiting for a part to arrive.
What does this mean for us?
Going from all the delays we had before to
real-time communication. It also allows us to
expand the network and to add wireless options.
An update to the story is that the part did finally arrive. As of December 16, the school has been up-tospeed with the Internet
access.
Potentially, this means
that the school will now
have a bit more freedom
with the sites available as
the restrictions were to
keep congestion to a
minimum. As far as the
wireless issue, as of right
now, only school-owned devices will be allowed to be
connected to the wireless network. The board has
made this determination.
One of the biggest challenges was installing
new computers for the JR/SR high school;
Mr. Callas, in working with Mr. Voyd St. Pierre has
keeping all labs operational and preparing for
also
drafted a Student Acceptable Use Policy for the
the transition from DSL to fiber optic.

Native American Classics
The Northern Stars took on the Poplar Indians in their first game of the
season. The Indians were no match for the Northern Stars. The Stars
trounced the Indians 66-28.
The Morning Stars also took on the Poplar Indians and walked away with a victory to open their season. The Morning
Stars took home a win with another blow
out.
Saturday’s games were much more closely matched as the Morning Stars
beat the Box Elder bears by only 12 points with a final score of 58-46.
The Northern Stars were not fully prepared when they went up against
Coach MacDonald and the Bears. The Stars had ten fouls in the first few
minutes, fell behind from the get go and never did make up the points,
but did manage to come within four for a final score of 67-63. All in all,
both games on Saturday showed some definite talent for all four teams.
