30 U.G.L.Y. Fundraising Ideas
Blue Beards
Bartenders and patrons
can dye their beards,
mo’s or hair blue
for sponsorship
and donations.
Need ideas on
how to be U.G.L.Y.?
Hold a weekly raffle
Source prizes donated from
local businesses if you can!
It’s amazing how much a meat
tray, chook raffle or gift basket
raffle can raise. You can ask
volunteers to sell tickets for
you! Check your local state
raffle laws on holding a raffle.
U.G.L.Y. Kick Off: 1 October 2016
Hold an U.G.L.Y. Launch Event to start
your campaign, like an U.G.L.Y. Blue
Party or U.G.L.Y. Bad Taste night!
Collect donations, play games in the bar,
launch a special raffle. Get the boss to
wear a blue wig and MC the night – don’t
forget to promote your upcoming U.G.L.Y.
events. Let everyone know you’ll be
U.G.L.Y. until Monday, 14 November!
Host an U.G.L.Y. Grand Final Party
U.G.L.Y. launches on the same weekend as the
2016 AFL and NRL Grand Finals, so why not host
an event in your bar or beer garden, and invite all
your regulars. Hold a bacon and egg BBQ brunch
to get things started and then hold sweeps,
games (including guess the final score or the
handball in the basket competition!) You could
also set up a ticketed VIP section with deluxe
seats and table service for the duration of game.
Pick up hairsprays and face paint in the team
colours and charge $5 to dress to your guests
as their favourite team. This is a great way to
get people to your venue for these epic events!
U.G.L.Y. High Tea
and Frock Auction
Spoil your loyal female patrons
with an U.G.L.Y. High Tea – ask
some local bakers to donate cakes
to your cause and host an afternoon
of lovely delicacies. Ask your guests
to bring a dress they no longer
wear to the High Tea, and hold a
Frock Auction to raise even more.
Rummage the U.G.L.Y. Kit
There are HEAPS of goodies in
the U.G.L.Y. Kit, and they are all
designed to be used as a part of
your fundraising. If you need more
goodies, visit the U.G.L.Y. Shop:
uglybartender.org.au/shop
From the kit you could use:
Float a gold coin
on the lemon
Fill a jug or vase with water and
float a lemon on top. Offer a prize
to anyone who can balance a
gold coin on the lemon. All the
money that falls in the jug adds
to your fundraising. You’ll raise
lots as this is harder than it looks!
• The U.G.L.Y. Bar Blade: buy 20
for $3 each, and sell for $10 each
– that $140 profit.
• U.G.L.Y. Headscarves: Create an
U.G.L.Y. Survivor Challenge and
get everyone geared up!
• U.G.L.Y. Pens: sell them over
the bar, or use them as a part
of an U.G.L.Y. event like
Melbourne Cup or Bingo.
Mad Hatter Nights
Get all the staff and punters
in crazy hats and charge
an entry fee to enter your
U.G.L.Y. Mad Hatter Night.
Offer prizes for the most
eye-catching head gear.
• U.G.L.Y. Fridge Magnet Bottle
Openers: super fabulous –
sell them for $5 each.
• U.G.L.Y. Lanyards: Are your
co-workers jealous of your U.G.L.Y.
good looks – grab 20 lanyards
at $2 each and sell for $5 each
– you just raised another $60!
• U.G.L.Y. Tattoos: thank
everyone who makes a $5
donation with a temp tatt!
• Use the U.G.L.Y. Playing
Cards for these simple
fundraisers: U.G.L.Y. Chase
the Ace or Jag the Joker.
• U.G.L.Y. Wristbands:
sell for $3 each or two for $5!
• U.G.L.Y. Collection Tins:
rattle those tins baby!
Tips for U.G.L.Y.
Host Food & Wine
Extravaganza
Have a huge Tip Jar
on the bar and ask all
your co-workers to
donate their tips to the
Leukaemia Foundation
for the month.
The Naughty Jar
Make Friday night ‘Naughty
or Nice’ night! Nominate an
activity for the night and fine
your punters when they commit
the naughty act – you can have
a ‘Drink with your left hand only’
night or pick a random word they
can’t use like ‘beer’ or ‘work’ and
fine them if they break the rule –
this gets more hilarious over the night.
Get your local producers and suppliers
on board and hold a Regional Tasting
or design a special U.G.L.Y. Degustation
or Beer-gustation dinner in your
venue! This is fabulous way to
get people to your venue, and
you can charge an entry fee
which is donated to U.G.L.Y.!
U.G.L.Y. Movie night
Host an U.G.L.Y. Movie Night
in your beer garden, with
a late night horror screening.
Serve Blue Beer, Blue
Popcorn, Blue Lollies, Blue
Ice-creams and make it fun!
U.G.L.Y. Drink of the Week
Talk to our fantastic partners or
your local suppliers about running
a special U.G.L.Y. Drink of the
Week, Month or Campaign, and
donating a portion of the cost from
every drink sold to your U.G.L.Y.
Fundraising! You could even invent
a delicious U.G.L.Y. cocktail!
Pool or dart
competitions
Charge an entry fee and
offer quirky prizes to the
winner. The comps are a
pub fav with locals and you
can make this a weekly
event over the campaign!
U.G.L.Y. Meal Deal
Create an U.G.L.Y. meal deal
with your chef with a percentage
going to your U.G.L.Y. fundraising.
Maybe it’s a beer and burger deal
for $20 with $5 going to U.G.L.Y.
or get you could get creative with
a limited edition U.G.L.Y. Schnitty
Sauce! Your regulars will love the
twist on the menu items.
The Great U.G.L.Y.
Bake-off
U.G.L.Y. Karma Keg
A ‘Karma Keg’ is an ideal way to
get people to your venue for an
U.G.L.Y. event. People can either
nominate how much they will pay
for their beer, or you can charge
the normal price and all the beers
sold from that keg can go directly
to your U.G.L.Y. fundraising.
Kind of like a cake
stall but with a
competitive edge:
ask your patrons and staff to donate
items for an U.G.L.Y. ‘Bake-off’!
Patrons purchase the cakes or
tasting platters, and vote for the best
cake, with a trophy for the winner.
Host a sausage sizzle!
Easy U.G.L.Y. Events
Make the most of Melbourne Cup Day
and Halloween! These dates are ideal for
dress up parties, a fundraising lunch,
dinner, raffle, sweeps, games and more.
Other easy events include trivia or comedy
nights where you can get the local
community into the venue for night of
brain-racking hilarity. Local sporting
events, like grand finals, and end of
season parties are also great opportunities
to host an U.G.L.Y. event in your venue.
Car Wash or Drive-Through
Windscreen Wash
Hold a car wash in the car park and
offer a wash’n’meal deal, so patrons
can enjoy your venue whilst you’re
washing their pride and joy. Or see
if the guys in the drive-through will
wear bikini tops and shorts, washing
windscreens in the drivethrough for a cash donation!
Who doesn’t love a sausage sizzle?
A late night sizzle works especially well
when patrons need a midnight snack!
Gourmet Sizzles are also a great way
to boost your fundraising – talk to your
local producers about whipping up
a unique U.G.L.Y. Gourmet Dog with
a locally made sausage, delicious
cheese and some handmade chutneys
or sauces – YUM!
Get Plastered
U.G.L.Y. Music Loop!
Take a plaster cast of your
colleagues’ body parts, paint them
and mount them above the bar!
Charge $5 to guess who they
belong to, with a prize for getting
the most correct. This event can
run over the whole campaign and
the casts can be auctioned at the
end to raise even more money!
U.G.L.Y. Karaoke!
How-Many-In-The-Jar?
Oldie but a goodie: Grab
a huge jar, fill it with lollies
and charge $2 a guess, with
the jar presented to the
winner. Make sure you count
them BEFORE you seal the jar
(rookie mistake…)
Host a karaoke, lip-sync, air
guitar or talent night for your
locals to show off their star
qualities. Encourage the
regulars to perform or be the
judges, and charge an entry
fee to participate in the hilarity.
We mentioned this earlier in the handbook, but
here’s some more detailed info. An U.G.L.Y. Club
is a great way to get people back to your venue
over the campaign.
This is a fantastic way to raise cash and make
your venue the place to be over the campaign!
In a prominent spot, put up
photos of all the venue staff, or
local well known ‘personalities’
and charge $2 per guess to
‘Name That Baby’. We can
even provide you with an easy
entry form for this, just give us
a call or an email!
Gold Class raffle
Sell, Sell, Sell!
This is a simple and easy way to
raise money throughout the month
– sell chocolate, sell lamingtons,
sell bottles of water – get items
made or donated – and of course,
you can sell all your U.G.L.Y. gear
too! It’s a great idea to auction off
all your U.G.L.Y. gear at the end.
Get your local lads, from tradies to
the local football team, to volunteer
their time for the night and serve the
ladies. Over the evening you can
auction off the chance to ‘purchase’ one
of these generous men to undertake
odd jobs – or you can come up with
a fun challenge for them to do!
Start an U.G.L.Y. Club
Use the gear available in the U.G.L.Y. shop to
launch an U.G.L.Y. Club for the campaign period by
charging a ‘membership’ of, say, $50, and that gets
a member an U.G.L.Y. Wristband, Bar Blade, Pen,
Deck of Cards and entry in the Friday Night Meat
Raffle, plus meal specials over the campaign.
Baby Photo Comp
Ladies night
and slave auction
Choose a singer/band that you
love but your patrons will loathe.
Play a selection of that artist’s
songs on loop until you raise
$1000. People will literally
pay you to stop playing that
artist and change the music!
Like Justin Bieber for example…
Lock ‘em up
Lock a staff member in a
cage or chain them to a
post, and don’t release
them until you’ve raised
$1,000. We ask that no
bartenders are harmed in
the raising of this money!
Raffle off something money
can’t buy. Create a Gold Class
experience at the bar with the
best bar stool position or table in
the beer garden with free nibbles,
priority service, discount drinks
plus a complimentary pick-up
and drop-off service for the night!
Get Creative!
Creative U.G.L.Y. fundraisers
and events are awesome ways
to get people to your venue and
raise money at the same time!
The U.G.L.Y. Crew is on hand to help
with event planning, fundraising
ideas, promotional posters and
more, so just call, email, text or
inbox us, and we’ll help you be
the U.G.L.Y.-est you can be!
