Buzz On Your Lips
Organization of events and concerts since 2007
Presentation Buzz On Your Lips
Active since May 2007 on the Belgian music scene, the Brussels collective Buzz On
Your Lips continues its merry way in the organization of parties, concerts and
festivals regularly inviting his favorite artists to perform on stage in Brussels (and a
few dates in Liège).
The group chose to organize themselves in a fact association.
This association consists of:
Sébastien LEFEBVRE
Pierre MARTIN
Guy Lefebvre
The goal is to offer the public a sharp programming, varied and daring. Our second
focus is to promote new music to discover by programming emerging artists from
both the Belgian and international scene.
BuzzOnYourLips, as a group, it goes without saying that everyone arrives with his
own influences, so that's why Buzz On Your Lips (or Boyl) clear from the start will
override the musical boundaries to be found on all musical fronts. Our events do not
necessarily drain the same audience as it is not uncommon combinations proposed
are quite aggressive in terms of programming.
Indeed who could have imagined that it is possible to organize parties where the new
metal scene meet electronic music live on the same line up. 4 years ago, for our first
event, we gather two publics wich met on that evening in the same room to party until
the end of the night at Recyclart art centre.
Our reputation comes primarily from the subtle blend of bold programming, explore
the future of tomorrow buzz and than sulfur during our big parties. Boyl is currently
one of the only organisation group in Belgium as well daring venture on the side of
post-metal and electronics through the indie rock, the electropunk and abstract hiphop.
We enjoy booking international artists that we like the most, inviting them to perform
at our events. This kind of program allows us to support the local scene by offering
them the opportunity to do the first part and sharing the stage with these
artists. Since our inception, we have helped many musicians from the Belgian scene.
History of Buzz On Your Lips
So, in May 2007 Boyl began to organize his first dates. The first took place in
Recyclart (Brussels) in May and saw a success with no less than 700 people to
attend shows Kap Bambino, Year of No Light and Amen-Ra (to name a few). For an
organization that begins, we could be proud of us.
Programming
Boyl holds a regular basis and already has more than 60 dates arranged around
Brussels (Botanique, Recyclart, Magasin4, DNA, Fuse, Mirano, ...), Arlon, and Liège
(InsideOut).
In terms of international programming, Boyl had the honor of hosting for the first time
in Belgium Canadian Crystal Castles, the French Sexy Sushi and the US Wolves in
the Throne Room,
Other international artists include Cult Of Luna, Prefuse 73, Kap Bambino, Made out
of Babies, Lali Puna, Metronomy djset and Pantha du Prince
The highlight of 2009 was probably when Boyl was asked to organize at Recyclart
the official after-party of the British group Bloc Party on the heels of his two sold-out
at the Ancienne Belgique.
Since then, the collective BOYL has grown very important in the events landscape of
Brussels and Liège, the dates are either sold out or filled with people ...
we can say now that Buzz On Your Lips is indeed on everyone's lips.
2010 was a good year for Boyl with, among others, the successful Kickback (en)
concert, Kid 606 (US) for our B-day and the Recycart Summer Breaks. Pierre Martin,
in the organization and Dj Nitro for Boyl, was scheduled to close the biggest « dance
hall » tent at Dour Festival 2010 in front of over 8000 people!
However the new scholar year promised to be charged with no less than 10 dates for
the months of October and November, with highlight on 27 November, with the afterparty of Autumn Fall Festival with DJ sets of FOALS and CARIBOU, some hours
after their live performances at the Botanique and AB.
On March 25 we had celebrated our 4 years by inviting Chris Clark (Warp, UK), Otto
Von Shirach (US) and Covox (sw). An evening wich was completely filled!
Our events
We work on three types of events:
Concerts
There at first 'pure' concerts, usually held in DNA and Magasin4. We program mainly
rock and metal artists, all versions combined. These dates are exclusively built
around a headlining European tour and supplemented by one or two of the French
Community, Flemish and northern France.
During these dates often we reach an audience of 80 to 300 people, depending on
the location and artists.
Parties
We also organize several parties over the year focused on electronic music. The line
up this time is much more important because no less than 7 to 8 artists (dj or live +
vj) take turns throughout the night to move the public.
Are scheduled at these events recognized artists on the international stage
(sometime 6 international artists!), but also promising young local. An audience of
loyal following us since our inception, and during our big events assistance can reach
1000 people
The mix-evening concerts and parties
We have also developed mini-festivals with a prime-time oriented metal / rock
followed by an electro night.
These events are our real financial risk-taking, especially as we go through a hired
venue and the benefit of the bar escapes us.
At the moment we have not failed, but this way of working is not very comfortable
when working on a program of several months and must either make advances
(wafers, transportation of accommodation, various locations, ...).
To date, we have never sought assistance from government or external sponsors to
fund our events. We have always been held in own production, or co-produced with
other organizations (Recyclart, Color Linez, HulaPop ...), each member of the group's
commitment to personally to address potential financial shortfalls.
The purpose of the group was never to want to make money through these
events. What brought us together most is the idea of defending the artists that we
appreciate.
The money earned at our events allows us to reinvest in future dates.
Promotion
The same is done in terms of promotion. Our means of communication:
A brand new website (www.buzzonyourlips.be)
Nearly 10,000 members and just over 40,000 visits at our myspace
A listing of over 5000 friends borrowed the official facebook page BuzzOnYourLips
and the individual members of each group.
We have since the beginning of 2010 started with a WAF, the organization of
Christine Massy, a former Plug RTL, covering our events and made over from our
programming through its various communication channels.
Le Vif / Focus has become one of our partners, by relaying our various events in his
papers.
Arsène50 is our latest partner. They are interested in our important dates and we are
their first party organizer!
As for the future development of our promotional activities, we would reach a wider
audience by finding a link with more general media such as Pure FM and
Télémoustique.
We will also intensify our display with a focus on places of celebrations in the city and
looking for a broadcast network.
All our dates!

Many foreign agencies say they are impressed by our activities and the quality of the
artists presented. This allows us to make discoveries, while allowing the
'independent' artists to benefit from a certain visibility. Focusing on programming
quality but also quantity, we always try to meet local and international artists, famous
or not.

Buzz On Your Lips, the group that will not leave Brussels sleep.
(Shoot me again magasine)
Interview with Sebastien ...
See guys who move their ass.. We, Shoot Me Again, like that, then this is the
interview with Sebastien Lefebvre, who is determined not to let the capital of Europe
rest on its laurels .
Sharp programming ranging from electro to hardcore, mixing all underground
networks, ranging from the unreleased improposable ...
But up to him ...
1) Hi Seb, we'll start with the traditional issue, can you introduce yourself to the
readers of SMA?
Hi! This is me Seb, 30, I live and work (in Human Resources) in Brussels. For 3 ½
years, I started in the promotion of concerts and parties, mainly in Brussels, Liege
occasionally, through my collective Buzz On Your Lips.
1a) I heard that your father was also involved in music?
Yes indeed, and has been for almost 40 years. He organized a ton of concerts
(Pavement, Senser, Blur, The God Machine, Laibach, Sergent Garcia, Ludwing von
88, Penthouse, Arkangel ,...) and the Exit 23 Festival. He had also a record store in
the centre of Brussels for 5 years before moving into artists booker, at Intersection
agency. He has totally lost sight of for nearly five years, before getting to start the first
note of the organizations Buzz On Your Lips, then supposed to be a simple one-shot,
in May 2007, Recyclart Brussels. Besides that, he still holds now the punk
Warehouse Arlon (L'Entrepôt)
2) You have a collective "Buzz On Your Lips", can you tell us about its history and
what you want to do?
As I said, it's part of a one-shot. I've always wanted to get involved in one way or
another in the music, which is and will remain my passion.
There is a little less than ten years, I wanted (or rather thought ...) to organize a date
around Katatonia, but I quickly realized that I did not really mastered the logistics and
strategy oforganization, without support. It was therefore natural to try it with
someone who knew what it was, in this case my father.
He gave me carte blanche and total reliability for programming. The idea, already at
that time was to merge two genres and thus two audiences.
I thought a lot in Kap Bambino, even though electronic music - in the broadest sense
- was a world virtually unknown to me ... I do not know much in this department at the
time, but I wanted to build on them. They then ended up playing at Pukkelpop in
Dour, the Nuits Botanique ... On the other side, I saw a few times and it was really
Amenra a fantasy to organize something with them. So we left on this idea of
grouping Amenra Kap Bambino and the same evening at Recyclart. Year Of No
Light, Nadja, and Kitbuilders Genjin completed the poster, which was already then
armed with five foreign groups. Line-up of sufficient size, when possible depending
on location and curfew, it's always been a constant here. The first date was a real
success, and from there, it soon became apparent that the adventure would naturally
continue.
Especially since I am convinced, not surprisingly, I loved it. It's still something
magical, you can make yourself a plateau, and finally decide that this or that artist will
play together in one place. It now accounts for about 40 dates and 200 artists in our
history, which is huge for a collective that has no fixed place, and has never received
any subsidies or support level sponsorship. The fact still exist after all this is already
a success and pride for us. So in terms of the future, it is the same level goal:
survive!
3) You put forward a rather eclectic, can you tell us more?
Actually, I did not think being able to offer electronic signs on a regular basis at the
beginning. After the date passed with Kap Bambino, I had the feeling that we would
have to be limited to the guitar music, which is that I always valued and followed
since my childhood. Involuntarily, I realized it was a shame to invest in production
costs and promotion, limited to a single concert. From the time when most fixed costs
are covered, why do not make the "two in one"? Therefore, I really accelerated and
intensified my research of artists from different scenes to trend-mail. The aim was to
explore these scenes, in a fast while not draft.
Then, the financial aspect is spent in the background, because I found fascinating
stuff, even provocative.
Finally, there is a lot of similarities between the rock and electronic scene. One can
easily find the dark, heavy and violence of some artists post-hardcore or hardcore in
electronic music. Just as there are plans and post-punk rock in this world, too.
You should also know that artists from the electronic scene move more easily, do not
necessarily expect a tour to play them. While this course has a cost. So I based on
this first evening of Recyclart, to convince me to mix genres as possible, even if it
must be admitted, attract several different audiences has not always been easy to
create an identity and a loyalty public. Now I think we can say that it has finally
arrived. but it took almost two years and the first events that followed that of
Recyclart have frankly was not easy to digest at the peak (often low) and thus,
inevitably, financially. It was found SPEED in situations of "date of last resort", which
ultimately always preceded another. Until the final, worked, and has completely
restarted. It has almost never suffered from the failure when it was brought Sexy
Sushi in Liege in 2008. It was truly life-saving for us, even if paradoxically, the poster
was exclusively electronic.
That said, I remain a fan of post-hardcore and others, and these groups there
continue to be entitled the chapter in our programs.
I really do not want to stay fixed on a single landscape. At home I also bathed in
musical diversity.
4) You're playing the main groups in Brussels and Liège, there are reasons?
There are actually several reasons, which have varied over time. First, because the
network of cinemas in Brussels was completely blocked. It was impossible to find an
affordable place to place to make music until 6am. So we decided to try to Liège, the
Factory, then at the Inside Out.
Also, I love public Liege. It's always been more comfortable to hold dates there, even
if you hardly ever taken any promo for logistical reasons and time. Then, there is still
assured of events on Liege by doubling the dates of some artists that was playing in
Brussels the day before or the next day.
At present, we found some stability in Brussels, and was therefore less reason to
come back to Liège, but I really hope we can repeat it something when you have
more time. We have 8 dates in Brussels in September ...
5) Have you ever been playing a lot of bands, which ones you most marked, the
more surprised?
I can not afford not to mention Sexy Sushi first. Not for their artistic quality, even if
they have their own world, quite unusual.
But without them, we would have definitely abandoned the group, clearly. Then, their
concert at the Inside Out in Liege was truly memorable and full of life, fury and
madness.
Crystal Castles is also a big, big memory, even if they had at that time not yet
released their first album, and there were few people that night.
I was really desperate to play them, and it was a great excitement to bring them
here.Although afterwards, I found them relatively insignificant at Pukkelpop and it
seems that the singer may fail to adequately take several dates of rank. We have
opened doors to a lot of different foreign booking agencies. Collaboration between
Otto Von Schirach and Gabe Serbian, drummer of The Locust, was also a highlight
and friendly. Finally, I think the artist who marked me the most through our evenings
Covox is Swedish, which makes chiptune music, inspired by the sounds 8-bit video
games. It's always been something in the room between our public and Covox.
As for the human side, I am clearly more surprised by the friendliness and warmth of
the guitar groups, as Amenra, Part Chimp, US Christmas, General Lee or Woves In
The Throne Room. While Kid606 and Damage are also incredibly nice people. The
singer of Bloc Party, who came ensure a dj set at our parties, someone is surprisingly
simple and deeply sweet.
Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya me also scored at any level ... they came to play their first
date Belgian home, with a single EP on Kitsuné (a relatively hype and fashion label)
under the arm. Musically it was very ugly, and they are unbearable. While they were
still unknown. I do not know if they eventually break. I am honest so I allow myself to
fully answer your question: when a group so upset they are boring and bad, it must
be emphasized as well. Frankly, this group is to play a Stations of the Cross. It
irritates me more than anything back, while this one took place almost three years
ago ...
6) What are your musical preferences?
I mainly grew up with Girls Against Boys, Pitchshifter, Dub War, The Jesus Lizard
etHenry Rollins. Then there was stuff like At The Drive-In, Engine Down, Cursive,
Envy, Boysetsfire, or GYBE Circle Takes The Square. Since that period some posthardcore/emo, there is no doubt that Xiu Xiu that marked me totally musically. At
present, I try to return as often as possible to the guitar, but I listen more regularly
electronics which is slightly predominant in our programs.
7) Could you give me the recipe for a successful concert?
It's a difficult question! Already, what is a successful concert? One in which to recoup
those costs, the one where the artist is happy, or where the public is happy?
A bit of probably three ... For the recipe, there is not: the organization of musical
events is not an exact science. That's what makes all its magic.
It bothers me deeply that everything goes as planned, every time. But to our level
and in relation to our profile, a concert is successful when one manages to
surprise. Whether the public or the artists. And so, we must in any case try to set up
this little something unexpected in the recipe, which will cause the explosion.
8) I feel that so-called alternative scene is taking back the weight, I find there are
plenty of new initiatives, did you feel the same?
To be honest, I never paid attention to anything that organized before my turn to
host. I will only go to artists without knowing who was behind the initiative.
Yes, there are obviously many recent initiatives, as there are many things that are
out, unfortunately.
So is it in the end, we gain? I do not know. Some leave, others arrive. Some
shipments also cause the death of other initiators. It cuts both ways. It seems in any
case there be a few more places available for events that are 2 years old.
In any case, the only thing I want to say from this core promoters is that it is a shame
to walk on when working with the same structural problems in the same vein. At our
level, it would seem logical at first jealous of some festivals Walloon pro-French
Community, which exist only for and through her. And close relative to small
organizations independent board can every day, even if they play in the same area
as us. There is always a natural and logical perceived rivalry between small
organization, and I find it absurd. Though honestly, it is not found in any existing
organization profile is quite disturbing for that matter.
9) What do you suggest future concerts and not to miss?
We have a rather busy month of October including Arnaud Rebotini, which offers a
live electro-techno 100% analog, departing from various vintage synths, without any
support plates or laptop. It will be October 15 at Kultuurkaffee. It will probably also
our last real night for the 2010 season.
There will, before that, including the Australian Heirs, offering a sort of post-rock
super-powerful post-metal and air Oct. 9 at the DNA, with Iroha in support, made up
of friends with Justin Broadrick and signed on the label of the leader of Portishead,
but Kingdom, one of many side-project of Amenra.
Finally, I am curious to see what will give the evening of November 16 drone with
bassist solo DeJesus Lizard (Unfact), Aidan Baker (Nadja group), and Novell (exmember of Parts & Labor). Finally, we are evaluating two artists important enough to
finish the year before, but I'll leave it for now: the dates are not (yet?) Bookées.

On Friday, July 30, 2010 at Recyclart (Brussels)
Website: http://www.myspace.com/buzzonyourlips
In what spirit was born the event?
Peter Martin: It is part of Recyclart Holidays is back this year. Buzz On Your Lips has
some loyalty to Recyclart, which is really an alternative place of quality. We want to
bring people to an evening Recyclart offering cheap international lives with 4. It has
been proposed in the past or Sexy Sushi Crystal Castles now running on larger
festivals, the goal is to offer the kind found in cool, still in an alternative style and
déglingo.
What audience are you targeting?
PM: We would like to reconcile with the public Recyclart which was more or less
abandoned long ago. The project is really to continue, there have been very cool
projects. We want to bring a direction a little more festive and electro-punk. Enough
with this event recurring, it is hoped to complete the Recyclart with anything but oneshots.
What future for the festival?
PM: We would like to make one to four evenings a year. There is a big challenge in
Brussels is to find places to host the evening. A large gap between the electro-chic
places and places more "Cracra". The goal is to strike a balance.
Article Focus Vif: Metronomy (Monday, 18 October 2010)
Plastic metronomic supersports
Like every Monday, Guillermo Guiz back on events that moves the capital. Kultuuri of
the K-Nal, through the Brasseries Belle-Vue: "Night in Night Out," Episode 6.
It starts Friday. After midnight. Immersed in reading the teeming Electrochoc,
memory book in which he tells how Laurent Garnier Laurent Garnier has become, I
decided to break this sweet slumber to face the petty land-drizzle outside. Arnaud
Rebotini, I read, occurs at the edge of the campus of the Plain, in obedience to
Kultuurkaffee Student assumed.
Rebotini is Black Strobe, électroïde French group created in 1997 with the future star
DJ-Yvan Smagghe. Rebotini is a horseshoe mustache. Rebotini and is a big wind in
my face. "It's been a month since we announced the cancellation of its live", I slip,
half sheepish half "get informed FIEU", one organizers of the evening Buzz on your
lips. Arnaud, if you read this, know it and know it loud: if, instead of continuing my
reading, I came back the next day at 14h at me with the impression of having 700
grams of pizza dough in the mouth is a bit thanks to you.
In fact, the stuuut, bellowing as the unacceptable Marc Herman is that Rebotini plays
the next day with Black Strobe, the Plastic Film Festival. Stung by the double
booking, the guys from Buzz on your lips eventually cancel their headlining. Or how,
plunge the nail, the electro scene in Brussels is still yet to really: when energy
rhymes with synergies, the city will move into overdrive.
Without Arnaud, nothing beautiful? Nop! Already in Kultuurkaffee, vodka-Perrier
costs 5.50 euros, as in 1994. And in one corner, there's a small table info drugs and
AIDS. Purely reflex teen I mug a free condom in the process. Who knows ... In a
misunderstanding ...
Accustomed to live more or less the experimental Tray 4, the team of Buzz on your
lips is dancing tonight. And still has concocted a tough line-up, with as main
attraction, while a black shy, leaning on the bar with his girlfriend. All Stars-skinnylegged jeans, T-shirt "Back to you future," Lumumba's glasses and cutting the Carl
Lewis: Olugbenga Adelekan, a member of the explosive quartet English Metronomy,
was granted a short recess Brusselshundred dollars. While waiting for the next
installment of the group.
Around 1:30, the bass player and remixer Anglo-Nigerian ready to ride to the Mac a
few dozen revelers disarticulated, who dance to electro clearly remains a very
obscure concept.I arrive, however, in English we say Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man, to
quickly entrust the truth, nothing but the truth: Nights Out, the album released in 2008
by Metronomy, is quite simply one of my plates favorite in the world. I am cute, in a
group all wet. After verification, it will prove yet qu'Olugbenga, authentic intellectual of
music (he studied English at Cambridge Classic), has joined the group in 2009 ... As
the late Pierre Bachelet said: "Having a little air con, it has never killed anyone."
For the first time that the boy tests his DJ-set outside the borders of Britain. But I bet
you six fried that it will not be the last, clear-cut for large festive masses, Olugbenga
chisels his chains by mixing mainstream and funds crapuleuseries irresistible
beat. Tubes viciously remixes of Lady Gaga, David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas, Gwen
Stefani, R. Or Kelly (yes!) Guns'n'Roses, completely devoid of substance
syrupy. Amazing ....
The set is full of gimmicks (the ultra-heady Technologic Daft Punk's your head at
etWhere Basement Jaxx) and allows himself, for here and there, some liberating
explosions (Standing in the Way of Control Gossip, full version BPM). The wheels
seem so well oiled that it smells a little pre-programmed playlist. "Come here,"
encourages me his girlfriend, former agent for jazz musicians converted into a beast
of stock in the City. Indeed, seen from behind, Gbenga quibble Mac for real, with a
geek-friendly program and clearly, nothing is a foregone conclusion ...
