LEED
Geiger products can contribute to LEED credits for construction waste management, recycled content, regional materials,
low-emitting materials, certified wood and innovation in design,
depending on the project.
Materials
Wood veneer itself is an efficient use of resources. Veneer is
sliced from logs into leaves, usually 0.4mm to 0.7mm in thickness. The leaves of veneer are then pressed onto a stable
substrate. Using veneer in this way is not only an appropriate
and respectful way of using wood, but the result is a much more
stable surface that lasts.
Particleboard and medium-density fiberboard used by Geiger
meet the Composite Panel Association's Environmentally Preferable Product specification. The boards are made from 100
percent recycled or recovered fiber, which is mixed with resin to
create a very stable substrate. The result is a board that is fully
compliant with ANSI standards for product emissions.
Indoor Environmental Quality
Geiger is solving the problem of air emissions due to VOCs
through several measures, including:

the conversion from solvent-based to water-based adhesives

the introduction of water-based stains
•
the introduction of robotic spray equipment
•
the introduction of UV-cured, roll-coat technology
•
a reduction in the amount of solvents used for clean-ups

activities, today and tomorrow. Geiger has committed to a set of
dramatic sustainability targets, all aimed at a zero environmental
footprint by 2020.
12-Year Warranty
Geiger offers one of the longest warranties in the industry: 12
years. Geiger products are engineered to be durable, in manufacture and in design.
Renewable Energy
Geiger products made in the United States are manufactured
at facilities that are powered entirely by Green-e® renewable
energy, making them 100 percent carbon neutral in the use of
electrical energy.
Recycling
Approximately 99 percent of hazardous waste is collected,
processed and turned into fuel disposed of beneficially as a
supplemental fuel in cement kilns. Used finishing materials,
including stains and solvents, are recycled or fuel-blended, resulting in almost no final waste by-product. Wood waste, include
scrap lumber and particleboard, is ground, mixed with sawdust
and recycled to outside sources for reuse. Cardboard, metals,
plastics and office paper are recycled. Through these initiatives
alone, Geiger reduced the amount of waste sent to landfill by 86
percent in less than one year.
EPA Partnership
Geiger began tackling the problem of air emissions from volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) decades ago. Starting in 1988,
Geiger participated in an initiative piloted by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce VOC emissions. Geiger
exceeded the goal, reducing emissions by 81 percent. Today,
Geiger continues to incorporate technology that further reduces
emissions, though the EPA initiative has officially ended.
With the help of its suppliers, Geiger was one of the first
companies in the world to develop and use water-based
urethane coatings. In addition, Geiger employs an environmentally friendly finishing process (UV-cured roll-coating),
which virtually eliminates VOCs. Geiger manufactures several
GREENGUARD-certified products. For the most current list of
certified products, visit www.greenguard.org. In addition, NAF
(no-added-formaldehyde) board is available upon request.

Geiger assumes that textiles, leathers and
products are intended for commercial use
and are not being bought for use primarily for
personal, family, or household purposes. When
installed and used as intended, products remain
chattel property, are not considered fixtures, and
no interest in them should arise under applicable
real estate law.

Packaging and Shipping
Geiger's casegoods products are shipped in
component form. Casegoods orders under
$50,000 net will be cartoned at no charge.
Casegoods orders over $50,000 net will be
blanket wrapped. If the Customer requests
cartoning, there will be a cartoning charge of
five percent of the net order value.

Geiger textiles meet ACT standards for commercial upholstery
use and the standards set forth in the State of California Home
Furnishings Act, Bulletin 117. However, Geiger does not warrant
or assume any responsibility for flame-retardant properties or
compliance with any flammability standards.
Geiger cannot guarantee that the usage of any individual textile will
comply with specific fire codes because compliance is determined
by the application of a textile to other components and is subject to
regulatory agency review.

Upholstery Com/col Procedures
Upholstery • COM/COL
Seating COM/COL Procedures
Geiger accepts COM and COL for application
on its products. However, Geiger does
not warrant the application, suitability, or
performance of those materials. Geiger
reserves the right to reject any COM or
COL that it considers unsuitable. Geiger will
notify Customer of any apparent defects in
Customer’s materials
before manufacture.
Upholstery
Use Basic Price for seating upholstered in
Customer's Own Material (COM). Add COL
price to Basic Price for seating upholstered in
Customer's Own Leather (COL).
Express seating orders that include COM
or COL are scheduled at Express leadtime
when Geiger receives all the materials on the
order. Geiger will split ship COM/COL orders
only if Customer notifies Geiger in writing that
this is required.

Testing and Approval
All Customer's Own Material and Customer's
Own Leather requires testing and approval
prior to order submission. Failure to obtain
approval will result in delayed processing and
scheduling of the order.

request a COM test number through
Omni. Customers and dealers
without Omni access should
contact Geiger Customer Care at

Step 2. Send one memo-sized sample
tagged with the test number to
the below address. Saiba seating
requires 3 yards of fabric for testing.

Step 3. Within four business days of receipt
of the samples you will be contacted
by Geiger Customer Care or the
Herman Miller COM Department
with testing results. If approved,
you will be given a four-digit COM
number for the fabric, and yardage
requirements will be confirmed.
The COM number is specific to each
fabric and indicates the supplier
name, fabric style name, color and
applied direction of the fabric. It
must be shown on the purchase
order and on the COM and COL
tagging when shipped to Geiger.
Tagging and Shipment
If an order is to include materials supplied by
the Customer, Customer must ship materials
to Geiger at Customer’s own expense. In
order to match the appropriate material with
the Customer's order, all COM and COL
must be tagged as follows:

Yardages listed for COM are based on 54" wide fabric, with no repeat. Fabrics which have
a repeat that must be matched, or are less than 54" wide, require more yardage and the
following chart should be used for determining COM yardage requirements. For fabric with
both horizontal and vertical repeats, add the horizontal and vertical repeat inches together.
Use the total number of repeat inches to determine the additional fabric needed.

Wood chair frames are constructed of solid
wood, except as noted. All chairs in Geiger’s
pricebook are identified as to the hardwood
species used in their production. Finishes are
available only on the solid woods indicated.
When a stained wood finish is specified, the
solid wood is stained to match the color of the
selected finish. OU, OUG, and UL are slightly
stained, refer to sample.
Appropriate hardwoods are selected to
provide a product that will stand up to normal
office use and perform under Geiger’s 12year warranty. In certain situations other
hardwoods may be appropriate and Geiger
will evaluate their use for orders over 100
units.
Special finishes can be developed for seating
on a minimum order of 100 chairs at no
additional charge. For seating orders under
100 chairs, special finishes may be developed
for a one-time set-up fee of $250 net per
finish.

available with a choice of pneumatic cylinders
to accommodate specific users.
Foray T arms adjust 4" vertically. Loop arms
are fixed in height.
Seat Tilt
Arm Width
The recline range of the Foray chair is set by
the user in one of three positions. The balance
of the tilt may be easily set for each user. In
addition, the seat of the Foray chair may be
released to a forward pitch of 5.6 degrees.
The arm pads on the Foray T-arm chair
adjust laterally to increase or decrease
the space between the arms by up to
two inches.
Foray is also available with a limited function
tilt. This tilt eliminates the 5° forward seat tilt
capability. This special tilt may be preferred
with conference use when a more uniform
sitting experience and appearance for the
chairs is desired.
