Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences
Al-Khair University Bhimber, Azad Jammu and Kashmir started
Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) from Fall Semester (November)
2011 with 3 Departments' namely Department of Urdu & Pakistani
languages, Department of Pakistan Studies & History, Department of
Islamic Studies.
Under the above three Departments Al-Khair University has
launched MA., MPhil and PhD programs for both male and female
students. All the programs of faculty are offered on dual mode of
instructions comprising distance learning and face to face
component.
The students will have to complete the requirements prescribed by
HEC at par with other Universities in the country. The Credit hours
completed in this University are recognized and transferable in the
universities associated with Commonwealth Association of
Universities UK.
The University is now planning for its expansion to start Departments
of English, International Relation, Economics, Sociology, Gender
and Women Studies and Political Science in the near future.

I feel great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Islamic Studies of
Al-Khair University. Our aim is to be the leading institute of the region for enhancing
the research skills of students and provide them a perfect understanding of Islam.
Preparing Muslim Ummah to meet their contemporary challenges is our main focus.
The MPhil and PhD Programs occupy central position in this department. The
Department of Islamic Studies has offered the most important & significant
programs in the field of Islamic Studies. These programs are distinctive in
public/private sector universities of AJ&K and Pakistan and are designed to carry out
research in different fields of Islam so that new dimensions of understanding of
Islamic teaching can be discovered.
We equip the students for serving on important academic & administrative positions
in the teaching and research institutions of Pakistan. Research programs of the
department provide the scholars an opportunity of exercising independent and
critical judgement through their skills for the service of Muslim Ummah.

Department of Pakistan Studies & History
Welcome to the department of Pakistan Studies and History. Our ideals are to impart
high level research and teaching to train the students in research and to promote
cooperation in inter-disciplinary and intra-disciplinary relationship of teaching and
research.
We have a target to arrange conferences, seminars, lecturers by distinguished scholars
and writers for development of teaching and research. Having these ideals in mind and
heart join us in exploration of untouched research topics, for example the Subaltern
Studies. We are also promoting research in regional histories of Pakistan generally with
a special reference to the area study of Kashmir.
Principal objective to start the Department is enlightening the students on ideological,
political, historical, social, cultural and global significance of Pakistan. As one of the
founding member of the FSS, the Department of Pakistan Studies and History is
offering MA, MPhil and PhD programs. The scheme will be operative by providing
teaching and learning assistance to the students through Study Centers located at
different places in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad and all over Pakistan.

MA Pakistan Studies
For an academic appraisal of any nation, review of its socio-political r oots is imminent. MA. Pakistan Studies program is aimed at focusing on
deeper study of geography, history, politics, economics, culture, society and religions of Pakistan to understand its historical traits. The program
will help in understanding Pakistan in its national, regional and international scenario in the background of world politics. The program will train a
generation of qualified social scientists capable of understanding Pakistan in its true perspective.
MA Pakistan Studies is a 4 Semester program spread over 2 years. It will consist of 8 courses of 800 marks, a Research Paper and Viva-Voce each of
6 credit hours- 100 marks bringing the total 1000 marks statutory requirement.

MPhil Pakistan Studies
MPhil Pakistan Studies is an advance level research degr ee of the
discipline. The objective of the program is to undertake in-depth
study of various facets of Pakistan, geography, history, politics,
religion, society, foreign policy, economy etc in the light of primary
sources. The degree also involves a research paper in each semester.
After completion of 2 Semesters' course work, the student will be
required to work on a thesis of 12 credit hours as part of statutory
requirement for this degree.

PhD in Pakistan Studies
1st Semester
S.No.
PhD course work in Pakistan Studies is of 18 credit hours spread
over 2 Semesters to be completed in one year. The objective of this
course work is to undertake original research on the topics relating to
Pakistan, its culture, history, politics, geography, foreign policy,
economy, society etc. in accordance with international academic
standards. In addition the student will have to write a doctoral
dissertation which must be of high quality research standards
satisfying the methodological and ideational r equirements linked
with this degree.
