Freshwater and
Saltwater Rods
Welcome to the 2009 G. Loomis all-tackle catalog.
Continuing our never-ending quest for the finest fishing rods available, you’ll find several new additions
to our lineup. If you’ve even remotely considered upgrading your trout rod in the past few years, this is
the year to do it. Our new Trout Spinning rods are
absolutely incredible. It’s an entirely new line and a
whole new world for serious trout anglers.
Bass anglers will find several new introductions for
2009, our Crankbait series fans out there will be
thrilled with our two new GLX models. They maintain the soft action you love and offer phenomenal
sensitivity. We’ve also added a couple GLX options in
our popular Spinnerbait series and added two more
choices in the Shakyhead series.
On the Muskie side of things, we’ve narrowed our focus to the die-hard Muskie angler, if you eat, sleep,
and dream of giant Muskie, look no further.
As you may have already noticed, we’ve also revamped
our catalog layout to make things easier to find. If you
need additional specific information on any of the
rods we make you can find it at www.gloomis.com.

bronzeback series smallmouth rods - classic bass
Whether tossing the largest plug for oversized bucketmouths or the tiniest jig for those finicky brown bass,
we have the right rod for you. Through extensive
research on and off the water, we’ve figured out how
to give you what you need down to the smallest detail, whether it be feather-light materials, fast-action
tapers, durability, or all three. We continue to design
and construct rods made with high-performance
materials, endless feedback, and a pure love of the
sport. This winning combination makes up for our
lack of sleep, and in the end these are the details
that make the difference between a good day out on

BASS jig & worm series carolina rig rods
Our four Carolina Rig rods are designed to make throwing those long leaders and heavy
weights much easier. All are long rods (7’3”) with long rear grips for total, two-handed casting control. The added length also increases casting distance so you can cover more water,
as well as a long arcing rod sweep for positive hook-setting power. Two are rated for 14-20
pound line and up to 3/4-ounce weights. The other two are rated for 17-25 pound line and up
to 1 1/2-ounce weights.

BASS jig & worm series senko rods
swimbait rods
®
®
Senko anglers seeking more casting accuracy and control will appreciate our specialty softjerkbait casting rods. One is 7’5”, rated for 12-16 pound line and smaller baits, the other; 7’2”
and rated for 14-20 pound line and larger baits. Both increase casting distance and positive
hook-ups due to the longer rod arc and extra length. And for those conditions that require
lighter, smaller baits we offer a spinning rod version for fishing up to 12 pound line.
Big baits. Big fish. The two big reasons we developed our new Swimbait Series. There are guys out there that have devoted their lives to
pursuing double-digit monsters with swimbaits. We teamed up with them, shared their secrets, learned their techniques and listened to
their requests for the ultimate Swimbait rod. The outcome is four new rods designed to throw the largest swimbaits all day long, precisely,
with minimal fatigue. And they pack the power to land large bass from halfway across the lake. Big fish on big baits, hang on tight.

BASS jig & worm series flipping sticks
If “flipping” is one of your favorite techniques, we think these six flipping rods can be described with one word – astonishing! First of all, they’re all one-piece and very powerful, yet
so light you’ll wonder how we did it. There’s three GLX and three MossyBack models that
cover the 10 to 25 pound test range, from the extra long (7’11”) for special cover and structure situations, to the 7’5” workhorse of the line. In addition, there is a lighter flipping rod with
a fast taper for those wishing to pitch jigs and worms, and still have the ability to flip when
they want to. If you prefer an extension handle, our classic Flipping Sticks can be found on
page 9.

CRANKBAIT SERIES
Our Crankbait Series rods incorporate all the elements of the best fiberglass crankbait rods, but with all the added benefits of graphite.
These rods have a soft, yet dynamic action that allows your lure to work perfectly and allows the fish to inhale the bait, but unlike fiberglass
rods, they’re incredibly light, super responsive, and extremely sensitive. Their reduced weight makes them far less tiring to cast. They’re
sensitive enough that you can feel a bass suck in a suspended jerkbait and they recover quickly so you won’t have to worry about keeping
your line tight when a fish jumps. In other words, you gain all the advantages of graphite with the action and flexibility of glass. Each rod in
the series is crafted in a gorgeous metallic copper finish. These are truly state-of-the-art crankbait rods.

Two new Crankbait GLX rods allow you to feel the lure like never before. The sensitivity
is turned up like crazy while still mirroring the soft action preferred for crankin’. A new
medium-heavy 6’6” rod has been added to the series for shorter, more precise casts.
5
spinnerBAIT SERIES
These Spinnerbait rods are designed specifically to fish blades like they’re meant to be fished, with power-ratings varying from light to heavy
and lengths from 5’6” all the way up to 7’2”. Two new GLX models have been added to the line-up offering unbelievable sensitivity. They load
and recover quickly providing amazing accuracy. All the rods in the series are accurate and powerful, yet so light even the softest strike feels
like an explosion. Extra-fast tips give you the ability to snap casts in and around all types of cover, with an extremely powerful butt-section to
keep even the biggest bass away from trouble. Fuji Alconite guides and “blank through” Fuji ECS reel seats (except the SBR864C, which has
a standard trigger reel seat) combine with rear grip lengths to make them both comfortable and efficient. Finished in a deep red with dark
contrasting wraps.

smallmouth BASS
bronzeback series
From Minnesota to Maine, Michigan to Tennessee, to the Columbia River of the Pacific
Northwest, one thing remains true. “Brown bass” are harder to find, harder to figure out,
harder to fool and harder to catch than any bass that swims. They’ll test your temper, your
patience, and your tackle to the very limit. We spent a few years fishing with and picking the
brains of literally hundreds of anglers that target these fish in several locations around the
country. You’ll appreciate the result; our BronzeBack Series with 16 different models covering every technique for every piece of water where you’ll encounter smallmouth.
Whether you drag lizards, tube baits, grubs or jigs, toss crankbaits, jerkbaits and spinnerbaits, or just love the challenge of catching a huge smallie on spider-thin monofilament,
these rods will leave you pleasantly surprised. Our BronzeBack Series rods are designed
with quick, responsive tips, allowing you to detect even the lightest nips and picks. The lower
and mid sections are dynamically powerful, giving you total control when fighting even the
largest fish. The casting rods feature “Mag-touch” blank-thru-handle construction for a better feel. Our spinning rods have our special reversed reel seat with a short fore-cork, so you
can put your finger on the blank if you’re so inclined. All are finished in a beautiful BronzeBack brown that is only matched by the fish itself.

about 25 feet deep, and the DSR822s for slightly heavier line, heavier cover and water to 50
feet. All lightweight, durable Fuji Alconite guides stacked forward to protect the line during
extreme rod flex. Fuji “blank-thru-handle” triggered reel seats are on the casting rods. The
custom spinning reel seats allow you to mount the reel forward so you can touch the blank

Shallow, deep, around docks, and even when fish are on the beds, the ShakyHead may not
be the go-to tactic under normal conditions, but it’s highly effective when the going gets
tough. When the fish are hugging the bottom in tight cover the ShakyHead will get in their
faces like no other technique. You now have two additional options–a new GLX spinning rod
and a casting model in the core series. Talk about sensitive!

The Frog rod is a perfect blend of two extremes. The tip is soft enough to cast lightweight
“frog” baits while still having the power to set the hook and yank them out of the thick stuff.
Crafted with durable Fuji guides and reel seat, along with a premium cork grip, and the perfect finish in, you guessed it, frog green.

classic BASS
The Classics. These are the technological wonders that put G.Loomis at the top. Nothing added, nothing taken away, these rods simply get
the job done. This arsenal of classic rods is offered in one or more models: GLX, with their lightweight and extreme sensitivity are in a class
by themselves. IMX, super-high modulus graphite which makes these rods unbelievably sensitive. GL3, probably the best performance
value on the market. Or GL2, there is no better starting point which comes with a beautiful Neptune Blue finish.
BASS classics mag bass
When it comes to performance and all-around fishability, the Mag Bass rods are our pride and joy. These rods, originally designed for
pitching jigs and worms for largemouth bass, have been discovered by walleye anglers, smallmouth enthusiasts, pike chasers and even
light-duty saltwater folks. They’re fast-action rods with a powerful, magnum butt-section that gives you increased casting range, more
effective hook sets (especially in deep water) and superior fish-fighting control. Fuji reel seats, with our “mag touch” exposed blank near
the trigger gives you superior sensitivity as well as better casting control. You’ll find yourself using these rods for everything... jigs, plastic
worms, soft jerkbaits, and whacky worms. They are available in a wide range of lengths and powers, plus the more popular models come in
all four graphite performance levels.

The perfect solution for the clear water lakes where spotted bass and smallmouths abound. They’re favored by those that like a spinning
rod because they used lighter line and smaller lures to fool those super-cautious bass. The Spin Jig Series is a unique blend of dynamic
tapers and super-sensitive materials that helps make these the rod of choice for serious light line anglers. Grubs, small worms, hair jigs,
split shot rigs, “mojo” rigs... you name it, the spin jig rod is a great option.

There’s been a trend in the past few years toward longer rods and it’s a valid one, especially since a lot of our lakes lose their cover as they
mature and the brush and trees die off. Long rods are great when you’re fishing open water with plenty of casting room, but when you start
moving to the bank and the cover gets in the way, those long rods just won’t cut it. This is where our Casting Rods shine. Shorter than their
Mag Bass cousins, they have the same fast actions and responsive tips you need for low trajectory, accurate casts.

The length of these Flipping Sticks allows you to “swing” lures around into heavy cover so
that they enter the water softly. And because they allow a vertical presentation, your lure
drops straight to the bottom—unlike a lure that’s cast and falls toward the angler, missing
those important perimeter zones. You also need a rod that can move fish quickly. With a fast
taper, these rods will do just that, giving you the power to pull fish out of the heaviest cover.
The telescoping butt-section collapses into the handle for easy storage.

muskie-walleye
Muskie and walleye fishermen have one thing in common; fanaticism. One, focusing on the feel of every rock, weed and subtle strike; the
other, accuracy to place every one of ten thousand casts precisely with the power to navigate heavy cover. Both our muskie and walleye
lines are engineered to perform for every specific application encountered in the pursuit of these elusive species.
N EW
muskie series
The New Muskie series rods are a slimmed down line-up for the high end, hard core musky
guys. They’re physically light – not action light, with a lot of backbone to the upper third and
quick, very sensitive tips. These are big fish rods for casting big baits like bull dogs and slow
twirling cowgirls. They feature a black satin finish with black wraps.

trout and panfish classics spinning rods
A dynamic collection of light-duty and ultra-light freshwater spinning rods. We designed
them primarily for panfish and trout, but they satisfy a variety of different applications like
small in-line spinners for bass, darts and light jigs for shad, spinners for trout, small baits for
bonefish, and even spoons for sea trout. They are light-duty, all-around spinning rods with
relatively soft butt-sections and light tips. None are rated for over 10-pound line and most are
in the 4 to 6-pound test range.

salmon and
steelhead
salmon series
This is our home turf, salmon country. This is where we all grew up and learned how to fish. Our local customers, guides and staff are
among the finest salmon fishermen in the world. So when we asked them how to make the ultimate salmon rods, they had plenty to say. We
had countless conversations and came up with hundreds of designs and re-designs. Months of trials and field-testing resulted in this great
lineup of salmon rods.
Trolling, backbouncing, spinners, plugging, hovering or bank fishing, whatever your game, we’ve got you covered. These rods are powerful, light, sensitive and best of all, each one has an action specifically tailored for a technique that puts the chromers in the boat. Gone are
the days of lugging around one big stick and making it work (sort of) for all your salmon fishing needs. You can measure the difference in
pleasure on the water and number of fish in the net. Enjoy.

steelhead and salmon
steelhead series
center pin rods
When you need to nail a drift against the other bank, you need distance. When you need to stick it in the foam to get the right line, you need
accuracy. When you need to do it all day long, you need less weight. When it’s all paid off with a bite you might never feel, you need sensitivity.
The Steelhead Series brings it all. These new rods are lighter and more sensitive, the actions are faster than we’ve ever offered in a steelhead
rod and they’re longer for greater distance and line control. They’re capped with super durable composite cork butt ends which are quiet in a
boat, and rib cage friendly. And with a stunning new finish, you’ve got the ultimate steelheaders arsenal.

With demand exploding for premium, high performance Center Pin rods, we’re proud to
offer four new models that cover all your float needs, from the Great Lakes to the Pacific
Northwest. These rods have very light yet strong tips that say goodbye to “tip sag.” While
other manufacturers have to add more material to create long rods like these, resulting in
heavy sagging tips, we chose to use our proprietary GLX graphite. They’re finished with extra
long cork and composite handles for perfect balance and reel positioning, then matched with
the finest high frame titanium RECOIL® guides from REC® for higher sensitivity and reduced
weight. The result is the lightest, fastest rods of this length anywhere.

float rods
Great Lake anglers have been steelhead fishing with floats for years and now it’s becoming one of the more successful techniques in the
Northwest. Our Float Rods are unequaled in maximizing this technique, allowing your bait to reach the correct depth and stay in the zone
longer, enabling you to cover a drift more efficiently than ever before. The extra length offers the ability to mend your line behind the float
for a drag free drift and provides additional hook-setting power to pick up the slack line without lifting your rod and hightailing it a hundred
yards down the bank. Available in a spinning and a Skamania style, which allows you to use a standard spinning or a single action reel.

classic salmon and steelhead
The Classics. These are the technological wonders that put G.Loomis at the top. Nothing added, nothing taken away, these rods simply get
the job done. This arsenal of classic rods is offered in one or more models: GLX, with their lightweight and extreme sensitivity are in a class
by themselves. IMX, super-high modulus graphite which makes these rods unbelievably sensitive. GL3, probably the best performance
value on the market. Or GL2, which comes in a beautiful Neptune Blue, there is no better starting point.
salmon & steelhead classics steelhead rods
We believe the two most important factors in a steelhead rod are line control and sensitivity.
These are two reasons why we build our steelhead rods in such a wide variety of lengths and
power ratings. No matter where you fish or which technique you choose, there’s a steelhead
rod that offers you maximum control.

We designed these rods with light to medium tips and magnum-power butt sections, which
make them excellent casting tools and even better fish-fighting tools. If you’re unfamiliar,
the Hot Shot technique goes something like this... the angler positions his boat at the head
of a run and allows the current to pull the plug down to the fish zone. The boat then sweeps
across the current so the plug covers the entire width of the river (lure action is then monitored by watching the wiggle of the rod tip). When a fish hits, the magnum butt section actually sets the hook for you. The boat operator keeps tension on the fish until the angler can
grab the rod from the holder. An extremely effective technique and a very versatile rod.

Backbouncing is a special technique used primarily by Northwest steelhead and salmon anglers. To fish a pool or run, heavy lead is used to put your bait right on the bottom and, with
the help of the current, literally bounce your bait downstream, keeping it right in the fish’s
face. Consequently, the rod you choose depends on the power necessary to lift the weight
off the bottom and still have sufficient power to set the hook with authority. A heavy-duty rod
with a stiff tip is crucial, because many times the fish are smack dab in the heaviest current
and you need a lot of lead (not to mention the fact that king salmon can weigh in excess of
90 pounds).

These rods are designed for a special technique called mooching. This style of fishing is
done from a boat by slowly trolling or drifting with the wind or tide. Both methods are effective, but each requires a rod that will allow the fish to chew on the bait and pull it down without much resistance. That’s why our salmon rods feature a soft, moderate action. It lets the
rod bend easily when the fish first hits the bait so he’ll hang on a little longer (at which point,
you set the hook and hang on a lot longer). Of course, these rods also have to handle the
heavy weight required to keep your bait in the “zone,” so we build them with plenty of power
to boot. The standard mooching rod is nine feet long, but if you fish several rigs at one time,
you may want to use longer rods on the outside rigs to keep your lines and lures separated.

Our BC rods are designed for the use of single action mooching style reels. They feature
reverse handles with a long fore grip and short rear grip for increased leverage. When you’re
heading to BC or Alaska where you’ll be trolling, mooching or drifting a float in the pursuit of
salmon and steelhead, these rods are a good choice for a travel companion.

pro-blue series - pelagic series - Halibut rod
surf series - greenwater series
popping - live bait - shallow water rods
Big, Hot, Fish. What’s not to like about fishing the
salt? Whether surf casting for stripers in Montauk
or going deep off of the Alaskan panhandle for
Halibut, fishing the salt means two things, tough
conditions and tough fish. In every case, we seek
the advice of the best local saltwater anglers we
can find and work with them to develop the ultimate rods for the water they fish. So whether you
are headed to the flats, the green water, the blue
water, the skinny water or the deep, we’ve got you
covered.
saltwater
pro-blue series
We met with literally hundreds of serious anglers, guides, and shop owners around the country. We did our homework! And after hours of testing, tweaking, changing and improving, we
are proud to present you with the final result… Pro- Blue high performance graphite standup saltwater rods, designed to take over where the flats end.
These aren’t your average stand-up rods. With cork handles, heavy-duty composite
reel seats, Fuji guides and blanks designed with dynamic, fast-actions, these are truly specialized rods. They’re a blend of the traditional flats and bay rods that allow you to wrestle big
fish without any distractions or malfunctions. We put a lot of effort in their design and we’re
confident you’ll feel the difference immediately. They may feel like lightweights because they
are, but there’s a power so intense and so mystical that you’ll wonder how we did it. That’s
our secret and your advantage.
For 2009 we’ve added a new, lighter Pro-Blue rod to handle “softer water”, smaller
baits, lures and plastics. This doesn’t mean smaller fish by any means!

pelagic series
Welcome to the top of the food chain. At least in fish terms. There are no hairs split here,
no modifiers, no “big fish on insanely light line.” We’re talking about the kind of fish that are
insane in their own right. Tuna, sharks, marlin and sailfish. This is the world of outriggers,
teasers, rocket launchers and fighting chairs. The heavy artillery so to speak. Our Pelagic
Saltwater rods are built for the anglers who choose to live in this world of massive fish, and
it’s not for wimpy rods or the faint of heart.

greenwater series
halibut rod
Popping to casting, finesse to brute strength, if you fish the “skinny” water then you’re the perfect candidate for our
Greenwater rods. We spent a lot of time talking to flats guides and worked closely with our dealers and field staff in the
development of this series of shallow water rods (in some cases, not-so-shallow for a few critters).
We’ve added new GLX models with dynamic new rod tapers that provide unbelievable sensitivity, featherweight feel
and heavyweight fighting power. All three feature the famous Recoil® titanium guides that are virtually indestructible.
Charter captains in Sitka, Seward and throughout the Alaskan
panhandle provided the on-the-water experience for the development of our new Halibut rod. Designed for this very specific
fishery, this is the ultimate rod for big “barn-door” halibut
action. It’s equipped with an extended foregrip for protection
when the rod gets pinned against the boat rail, and a slick
reargrip for quick removal from the rod holders. With a tough
proprietary hybrid graphite composite rod blank, AFTCO®
lightweight roller stripper guides, roller tip top, and Fuji heavyframe guides, along with the perfect action, length and grip
design, the only weak link will be your own back. Remember,
bend the knees.

SURF series
Extremely powerful, lightweight, high energy spinning and casting rods that give you unbelievable distance and accuracy. Distance is
important because no matter how good the rod, you can never quite reach that outside edge where the bait and the fish always seem to
be. When the action moves close to shore anyone can be in the zone, but it takes a special rod design to get you out there where they’re
out of everyone else’s reach. The secret is a faster “recovery rate.” The faster a rod can recover from a loaded (flexed) position to a “quiet”
(straight) position, the less line slap (friction) you experience. Less friction means higher line speeds resulting in longer casts. It’s the one
factor that increases casting distance more than any other, except maybe the size of lure you’re fishing. Combine that with the feather-like
weight of these rods and you’ll wonder how you ever fished without them.

POPPING RODS
Our Popping Rods were originally designed for casting live bait (mainly shrimp), under a
popping cork out on the flats, but freshwater anglers have found umpteen other uses for
them as well. These rods have a relatively soft tip, which allows your bait to land softly and
quietly, even on long casts; another plus when the water’s skinny and the fish spook easily.
At the same time, they’re powerful rods, capable of handling surprisingly large fish. They
come in a variety of lengths for different applications. The top four guides and tip-top feature
oversized rings to handle large knots for shock tippets. Great rods for great fish.

LIVE BAIT RODS
If you currently fish a Popping rod, but want to move into a little deeper water, chasing
larger fish with heavier line, these live bait rods are the answer. Powerful enough to handle
a multitude of saltwater situations—from bluewater to bays, mangrove-laced coves to open
flats—they are lightweight, precision fishing tools. Whether you’re tossing pinfish to tarpon or
dropping jigs around a shipwreck for small grouper, you’ll find these rods surprisingly powerful and as tough and durable as they come. They’re extremely versatile, giving you the option
to pitch live bait, cut bait, lures and leadhead jigs, and they’re especially effective around boat
docks, bridges or heavy cover in the back country.

escape travel rods
A stunning black cherry finish, 3-piece travel convenience and the finest components available make these rods as good looking as they
are functional. As more anglers travel to exotic fishing destinations all over the world, logistics become more and more of an issue. What
do you take? How do you get it there? Should you check it or carry it on the plane with you? You’ll find the answers right here, in distinctive
3-piece rods designed to cover most types of fresh and light saltwater fishing opportunities. They help make your day on the water more
enjoyable (and we’re thinking more productive as well)!
For those who are familiar with our popular Escape Series, you’ll be interested to know we’ve redesigned, improved and simplified
the entire line. The rods have similar actions as before though they’ll be a little smoother through the ferrule and stronger throughout. Fuji
guides. Rod tube included.

glx travel rods
The ultimate in rod technology and the comfort of knowing you can carry your rods right
along with you make the GLX travel rods worth their weight in gold (although as light as they
are, you wouldn’t get rich quick). These three-piece spinning rods are available in two popular designs to provide the ultimate in performance and the benefit of portability.
These four rods were introduced to fill a void in those fishy shallow waters along the Texas
coast, or frankly anywhere fish hang out in shallow water along any coastline. All have Fuji
Alconite guides and Fuji reel seats with shorter than normal rear grips which enhance the
performance that is needed in these areas. The actions are fast and delicate to present and
fish those light finesse baits where feeding fish are. They also have strong butt sections that
match these tips to drive the hooks home and provide the strength to move feisty fish in shallow water. They not only work well for shallow water wading but are also a hit with kayakers
where fishing low to the water has its specific needs.
Model
A float plane into the heart of Alaska? The trip of a lifetime to South America? A two-hour drive to the in-laws that just happens (if you take
the right roads) to pass through some blue ribbon trout water? No matter where you’re headed, you want to arrive there, rods included.
This is the philosophy behind our Escape Travel rods. Ten high performance and two even higher performance GLX multi-piece spin and
cast rods designed to cover the gamut of fishing opportunities for the vagabond angler. Whether you backpack, travel around the world or
just want a rod to stick behind the seat in your pick-up, it’s a good bet you won’t find a better multi-piece rod anywhere. The next time you
head out for that trip of your fly-fishing lifetime and the winds threaten to put you out of business, just pack your favorite Escape rod as a
back-up and save the day.

fly rods
fly reels
Getting your fly to the fish can be tough enough. So if you’re new to the sport, or just not able to get out on the water enough to perfect your
cast, a little cooperation from your equipment can be a tremendous help. While we can’t keep you from hooking the branch behind you, we
can make casting smooth and easy from the start. We know you don’t need the extra stress of fighting a rod that’s not designed right.
xperience fly RODS
Xperience fly rods are a new range of high performance/high value travel fly rods. Utilizing
the same high modulus graphite found in the top of the line rods of other brands, the rod
tapers have been crafted to cast effortlessly with a lightweight feel, yet with durability to become an heirloom. The lighter sizes, with medium fast taper and stiffness, provide the high
line speed needed for accuracy and control. As the demands of casting greater distance with
larger weighted flies arise, the #8 and heavier models are designed with fast/stiffer taper to
meet what ever challenge swims within range. Finished in a rich mahogany brown color with
a new anodized reel seat these rods are suitable for all fresh and saltwater conditions.

eastfork fly reels
These reels are all about performance, they just happen to come with a low price. Forged? Machined? How about both? We combined
the best of each world to accomplish a stable, intricately detailed marriage between spool and body. They’re lightweight, very strong and
hassle-free. A push button spool allows quick extraction if needed, and switching left to right is accomplished with a simple O-ring design.
The richly finished color and a beautifully detailed wooden handle compliment all rods, making these as nice to look at as they are to fish.

tips
We can build a rod you can’t break, but you wouldn’t want to fish with it.
Here are a few tips for keeping your rod performing at the highest level for many years to come. • Store our rod in its case,
out of the sun and weather. Make sure it’s completely dry before storing. • Dogs love to chew on the cork, and children, well
it’s better to just keep it away from both. • Lubricate reel seats with a small amount of WD40®or similar corrosion inhibitor. •
To avoid added stress on the rod it’s best to disassemble it when bushwhacking and when entering boats and automobiles.
• Never reel weights or baits all the way to the rod tip. This may damage the tip-top or fracture the tip of the blank. • Always
follow the line rating for your rod. Exceeding the line rating is like ‘red lining’ your car’s engine: it may cause the rod to fail.
• To free a snag, point the rod tip directly at the snag area and pull back along the axis of the rod, putting the stress on the
reel instead of the rod. This will either dislodge the snag or break your leader, but your rod will be saved. Never attempt to
free a snag with your rod tip, unless your lure costs over $100. • Have fun, after all you’re fishing.

What we mean by action and power
action Rod action refers to the flex characteristics of a rod, varying
from Slow to Extra-Fast. An Extra-Fast action rod flexes mainly at the tip. Slower
(or softer) action rods flex throughout the entire length of the rod. Moderate action
rods fall in between. We tailor the action of each of our rods to the particular fishing
application for which they’re designed, taking into account the preferred lure action,
optimum casting range, fighting power, the feel of the rod, and countless other variables.
EX-FAST
MODERATE
SLOW
Power We rate the power of our rods on a scale of 00 to 8. This rating should give you an idea of how each rod in the
series compares in terms of lifting, fighting and casting strength. Because each series is rated independently, a 2-power
Spin Jig rod, for example, does not feel the same as a 2-power Steelhead rod. Another way to measure power is resistance to flex or how much each specific rod bends under load. The 2-power rod flexes more easily than a 3-power and
so on. Generally speaking, the heavier your choice of line and lure, the higher the power rating you’ll need.

Never over-stress your rod in one spot. This often
happens when setting the hook, playing a fish close
to the boat or shore, or dead lifting a fish into the
boat. Bending the tip at a severe angle in this manner transfers all the stress to a single area, potentially causing the blank to fail. Rods are designed to
handle stress over the entire length of the blank and
should be flexed with this in mind.

1. Insert the tip of the butt section into the butt
of the tip section with the guides offset by 90º as
shown below.
2. Align the guides by firmly twisting the butt until
the sections are tight.
3. Check tightness by attempting to pull the sections straight apart without twisting. If the connection holds, they’re tight enough.
To disassemble, simply reverse by twisting apart.
NEVER USE THE GUIDES FOR LEVERAGE WHEN
ASSEMBLING OR DISASSEMBLING THE ROD.

G.LOOMIS “Xpeditor” Program - A broken rod will never keep you off the water again.
With the G.Loomis Xpeditor Service you can get a brand new rod to replace a broken one,
delivered to your doorstep in as little as two days. Even if you’re on a trip away from home
(anywhere in the U.S.). No questions asked, no waiting around for warranty claims, and it saves
you the usual hassle and expense of packaging, insuring and shipping your broken rod.
Plus, you avoid any and all fees for rod repair.
Here’s how it works. Contact our Customer Service Department (1-800-456-6647, then press 1) and request the G.Loomis Xpeditor Service. Let
us know whether you have a factory built rod or a custom built rod using a G.Loomis blank. Tell us the model number and rod series. If we no longer
offer the model that you broke, we will replace it with what we determine to be the closest comparable model from our current product line. Pending
stock availability, we will ship you a current replacement rod or blank (depending on what you broke) via standard ground delivery. Then when you
receive your new rod or blank, simply remove it from the shipping tube, place the broken rod or blank into that same tube and affix the enclosed,
pre-paid shipping label on the outside of the tube. Once you hand off the package to your delivery agent, you’re done and back on the water. The
cost: $50 for standard ground delivery in the Continental U.S. or $65 for 2-day service in the Continental U.S. or shipments to Alaska or Hawaii.
$90 for one-piece rods 9’ or longer. Just charge it with your Master Card or Visa. Demo rods, push poles and reels are excluded from this program.
It’s faster, less expensive and more “user-friendly” than any other option available (except maybe avoiding breakage altogether). If you do not return
the broken rod within 30 days of the receipt of your replacement rod, you authorize G. Loomis to charge your credit card for the full manufacturer’s
suggested retail price of the replacement rod in addition to the $50., $65. or $90. already paid.
