Established in 1887, Smythson is one of Britain’s leading luxury
leather goods brands.
Proud holder of three Royal Warrants, the brand has long been
associated with extraordinary people and extraordinary times. Royal
Warrants are a highly prized mark of recognition of individuals or
companies who have supplied goods or services for at least five years
to the Households of the British Royal Family. They demonstrate
service, quality and excellence of the highest calibre.
In the 1920s, Smythson produced stationery for European Royalty
and the Indian Maharajas, as well as the National Cash Register Smythson’s first recorded corporate gift order.
The company continued to trade during the Second World War,
and its popularity boomed during the 1950s and 60s as the rising
accessibility of air travel prompted celebrities and movie stars to flock
to the New Bond Street boutique. This glittering trail of illustrious
people leads straight into the present day, with an ever-growing list of
high profile customers and contemporary icons endorsing the brand.

As air travel emerged post World War Two, the demand for luxury
travel accessories grew rapidly. Embracing the expanding market,
Smythson increased production of leather goods for the seasoned
traveller throughout the 1900s. Still adhering to the meticulous
attention to detail that Frank Smythson himself practised,
Smythson’s dedication to creating unrivalled travel bags and
accessories remain much the same today.

Nothing says Smythson like the unmistakable mark of our iconic
books, from their stitched spines and supple leather bindings to the
clean, crisp leaves of Featherweight paper. Copyrighted in 1916
by Frank Smythson himself, each sheet is half the thickness and
weight of normal paper and withstands the test of fountain pen ink.
Trimmed with our famous gilded edges, notebooks and diaries are
gifts that will create a lasting impression.
Bound in our signature cross-grain Panama leather, Smythson’s wellknown series book titles have been a hallmark of the brand
since the 1960s.

A Smythson diary represents over 125 years of craftsmanship, timeless
quality and innovative design. With each featuring our signature
watermarked paper and a durable thread-sewn binding, our diaries
are perfect for keeping even the busiest of schedules on track.
Frank Smythson made history in 1908 when he created the world’s
first practical, portable diary. Affectionately nicknamed ‘the Panama
hat of books’, the diary broke the mould with its Featherweight paper
and pliable binding, enabling it to be folded and rolled without
becoming misshapen. Beautifully crafted to the last stitch, the diary’s
iconic design has now been translated into the Panama collection –
a lightweight, modern range of luxury leather accessories.

Products are gift wrapped in our signature tissue-lined Nile Blue
boxes and hand tied with navy grosgrain ribbon. Large leather goods
are wrapped in a soft Nile Blue drawstring pouch and presented in a
Smythson bag tied with a navy grosgrain ribbon.
STATIONERY
All of our books, diaries and paper are produced in the UK.
LEATHER
Our accessories are all manufactured in artisan factories in the UK
and Europe, with leathers carefully sourced from
European tanneries.

All orders are subject to availability. Many collections have seasonal
updates and limited edition colours; to avoid disappointment please
