An Evening with Jay Aymar
He's a musician, song-writer, book author, humorist, story-teller, a 2010 Canadian Folk
Music Award emerging artist nominee and an honest journeyman of music with six CD's
to his credit - Jay Aymar is coming to town. He'll be playing an evening concert at the
Heritage Arts Centre on Wednesday, July 29, and for those with a special interest in writ
ing, he'll be sitting down with a small group in the afternoon for a song-writer's
"workshop".
Described as a "Canadian Songwriter who mixes elements of folk and country music
with his melodic story based songs", his hometown is Sault Ste. Marie, but he's played
in towns and cities across Canada, the U.S., the Mediterranean, and even Barcelona,
Spain. He's spent his time talking to people, picking up stories, and re-telling them with
humor and appreciation through his music and his comic memoir "The Chicken Came
First (and other Half-truths From My Life as a Touring Songwriter)".
His latest tour has taken him west through the United States and then heading home
back through Canada with stops in Vancouver, Duncan, Port Alberni, Kelowna, Calgary,
Red Deer, Lethbridge...and Hamiota. Is it music you'll enjoy? One reviewer describes it
as 'pure Canadiana', while another describes his CD "Overtime" this way: "It's Jay Ay
mar filtered through the likes of the seriousness and humor of Roger Miller, the school of
satirical and down home humor of John Prine and Randy Newman, the folksiness of
Woody Guthrie...and Jay may even be a distant cousin to the likes of Johnny Bond
("Hot Rod Lincoln"), and Johnny Horton ("The Battle of New Orleans")."

The Lions Need Your Help
The Hamiota Lions Club are erecting a memorial wall for the veterans
of the First and Second World Wars.
We have tried to include all who lived or joined up from Hamiota Mu
nicipality. It is a large job and we think that we have all the persons
listed.
The booklet will be in the municipal office for the remainder of July and all of August. We
are inviting all interested people to go in and check out the names of family or friends who
you know should be listed. Correct spelling is another item that we are not sure of. We
want as few mistakes as possible.
The memorial will be placed just west of the cenotaph. It will be upright granite slabs on a
concrete base, modeled after the memorial wall at Brandon Airport.
The cost of the wall will be close to $10,000.00. We have applied for a grant, but it will not
cover the whole cost of the project. If you desire, donations to offset the cost of this memo
rial can be made at the municipal office. They will issue receipts that are income tax de
ductible.
There will be a separate booklet for any corrections, additions or deletions that have to be
made. This way we can keep the original booklet clean and tidy.

takes orders for Mary Kay, Morris is sometimes

on hand, and starting next week, Nicole Wilson is

vegetables from their market -size garden at Ken
ton. We also have the Sidewalk Dog Cafe from 111 p.m. which has volunteers grilling up hot dogs for

NEW at the Heritage Arts Centre: Concert Series Package Offer!!
We're trying something new! Over the years, many other towns have offered 'concert series' to give local
residents an opportunity to buy a package of concerts at a discounted rate. The Mid-West Arts Council
has been working hard to offer a musical event once a month over the next year, three of which will be
touring Canadian musicians and the rest some of our very talented local musicians at a variety of events.
The special evening concerts will cost $15 per ticket, but ifyou purchase a concert series 'package' of
$36 for three tickets, you will have a cost saving of three dollars per ticket.
The three touring musicians' dates are set: Jay Aymar, singer-songwriter on a cross-USA and Canada
Tour playing in Hamiota July 29th; Steve Palmer, whose smooth vocals, and amazing guitar picking has
already been enjoyed by many in the area, September 29th; and finally, Sean Burns, a fun, young touring
musician with a unique sound and country vibe on October 30th.
Tickets for one of these concerts in the series can be replaced with one of our $15 'local' musician con
certs whose dates are still being set for 2015- 2016, but some early possibilities include Heritage Art Cen
tre concerts by Tom Dowden, as well as by Grayson Ross. It's an opportunity to try something new - and
save a little money in the process!
All concerts will, of course, be available to the general public on an individual basis at the regular price
$15 per ticket, but concert series ticket holders will get first 'dibs' as they come up.
Concert series ticket packages will be available at the Mid-West Arts Council office.
