Enjit-Enjit Semut
“Enjit-Enjit Semut” is a motivational workshop
that aims to motivate individuals to make positive changes in life. “Enjit-Enjit Semut” is a folk
song of the Malay community which is normally
sang by children. As the child sings it, he will

Projects & Community Services
PCS is a department responsible for managing projects and events, organizing various training programmes and activities for
members of the public as well as beneficiaries, making connections and developing rapport to grow our circle of influence. We
collaborate with multi-agency in various industries to enhance and improve outcomes in addressing people’s needs, to promote mutual support, improved coordination of services resulting in better relationships, improved referrals, and the addressing
of joint targets. We create awareness not only through projects and events but through media as well to reach out to a large
audience.
PCS play a vital role in making people aware of what Ain Society is, what it offers, and what it does, informing the community
what we can offer and how we can meet their needs. We regularly update our supporters, partners, electronic and print media,
not forgetting our stake holders about our new initiatives to gain higher visibility.
Skills Training Centre
The training centre is a social enterprise project by Ain Society, focusing at creating employability in the cottage industry for the
unemployed Malay/Muslim individuals or the lower-income families. Other than sewing courses, the centre also provides adhoc training courses such as cake-making, industrial cooking and jewellery-making courses. The skills acquired will increase
opportunities for these individuals and families to engage in micro businesses or become home entrepreneurs.
Public Education Through Television Media
In its efforts to help the community, Ain Society provides solutions in delivering meaningful and inspiring video production especially on social issues for television programmes. Started with MENTARI I in 2008, a docu-drama series on family violence,
followed by a cooking series “Selara Raya-Itulah Inilah” featuring popular chefs Chef Ismail Ahmad and Chef Florence Tan,
MENTARI II in 2009 and MERAH, a musical drama in 2010 featuring the popular artist Hetty Sarlene.
Organising Events
PCS regularly collaborates with both governmental– and non-governmental agencies to advocate strong and relevant messages
for the well-being of the community. Among the many events organized is the Dementia Seminar, organized in 2010 in
collaboration with Health Promotion Board (HPB). The 6-hour long seminar has shed a clearer light to the 300 attendees as
they gain fruitful insights from both local and international speakers. Renowned invited speakers include Dr. Prem Kumar
Chandrasekaran, an Affiliate Consultant Psychiatrist from Penang Adventist Hospital.

Serenity @ Ain
As part of our new initiative, Ain Society has embarked on helping the chronically-ill patients and their families. Ain Society’s
exposure to the plight of cancer patients and their families was instrumental to the opening of the Society door to cancer patients and their families after being the partner of Breast Cancer Foundation in a community outreach programme targeted at
the Muslim community. From that point onwards, Ain Society staff and volunteers saw an increasing number of patients diagnosed with cancer seeking financial assistance and support.
As a commitment to provide quality services to cancer patients and their families, Ain Society conducted a small-scale survey
assessing the needs of cancer patients. The results indicated a need to have continuous emotional and social support especially from the community. In summary, patients felt that more community-based and culturally-sensitive programmes and support services are very much needed.
Currently the programmes and services for the cancer patients and their families are held at the Society’s existing head office.
With the strong pool of professionals in areas of oncology and social work sitting as resource persons to provide guidance, Ain
Society plans to set up a centre called Serenity@Ain. It aims to meet the needs of Malay-speaking cancer patients and their
loved ones as they navigate the period of diagnosis, treatment, recovery and losses. Serenity@Ain welcomes all races and
religions. To date, Serenity@Ain has managed 49 cases since 2010 and the number is growing. However, out of the 49 cases, 5 of them have been defeated by the illness and passed on.

Fundraising
The financial year 2010-2011 was very special indeed as AIN celebrated its 10 th Anniversary in Oct 2010. Fund-raising projects
held were also successful, raising an encouraging amount of almost $617,466. This would not have been possible without the
efforts of all staff and the leadership of AIN’s CEO. Our gratitude must also go to all donors, from the public and private sectors;
and young and old. Their generosity means they trust AIN to continue serving the community with its love, care and concern. AIN
can only reciprocate one way – uplifts its programmes and services to meet the needs of today’s community better. Its latest
initiative of setting up a Centre for cancer patients is one such example. Three fund-raising projects generated the record
amount for the Financial Year. The projects were 10 th Anniversary Charity Dinner (29 Oct 2010), Flag Day 2011 (19 Feb 2011)
and Charity Draw 2011 (2 Jul 2011). A summary of the projects’ important highlights are given in the following paragraphs.
10th Anniversary Charity Dinner
The Dinner was held at Orchid Country Club and was graced by the Guest-of-Honour, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, and 2nd Minister for Finance and Transport ; and our special Guest, Minister in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Dr Yaacob
Ibrahim. The Dinner raised $213,651 for AIN. A special commemorative souvenir magazine was produced in conjunction with the
event. Our heartfelt thanks goes to all donors, especially Lee Foundation, Architects 61 Pte Ltd, Hyflux Ltd, Muis, Keppel Corporation Limited, Loyang Tua Pek Kong and Ngee Ann Kongsi. A full list of the names of the donors can be found in the souvenir
magazine.
Flag Day
The latest Flag Day was held on Sat, 19 Feb 2011. A total of 1,142 flag sellers (including students) helped to raise about
$42,000 on that day. About $98,213 was received as donations via our mass appeal letters. In total, the project raised $140,213.
We would like to thank all donors, supporters and volunteers, especially to the schools Orchid Park Sec, Nanyang Girls’ High,
Marsiling Sec, Punggol Sec, St Patricks School, Changkat Changi Sec, Boon Lay Sec, Naval Base Sec, Pierce Sec, St Gabriels’
Sec, Whitley Sec and Temasek Polytechnic, who had helped out in the project. We hope to get regular support from our volunteers for Flag Day as their presence means a lot to us in making the project a success every year.

Charity Draw
For the first time in AIN’s history, a Charity Draw was organised, offering 30 lucky draw prizes (most prizes were sponsored),
with the 1st prize being a $1,000 NTUC Fairprice voucher. Donation tickets priced at $2 each were sold from Jan 2011 onwards
in booklets and in bulk island-wide to Ministries, government bodies, schools, grassroots organisations, Unions, companies, etc.
About $200,000 was raised through the sale of tickets and another $63,602 received through outright donations. In total,
$263,602 was raised from this massive project. A Draw was conducted in the presence of an external auditor on Sat, 2 Jul 2011
at AIN’s office. We are very grateful to all donors and supporters who had contributed to the success of this project. We must
