HELLOFLO WINE & GYN
KICK-OFF CONVERSATION
5:15PM-6:00PM
PLATINUM LEVEL, SALON A-E
Dr. Jessica Shepherd
Sarah Brokaw
Naama Bloom
EVENING AT THE EXPO
6:00PM‑8:00PM
DIAMOND LEVEL, EXPO HALL
We officially kick off the conference with a dedicated
time for you to meet our exhibitors. Take your first
lap of our two floor Expo Hal,; get a first look at all of
our sponsors, and take part in the special activities
they have planned for that night! They’ll have
special promotions, giveaways, demos, food & drink,
activities, and maybe even a celebrity or two, just for
the Evening at the Expo.
Mentally bookmark the folks you want to revisit later
in the conference for more in-depth conversation
and connection. But, wait! You don’t have to mentally
bookmark them! You can mark them as Favorites in
the conference mobile app and keep track of them
that way!
We’re planning a frank, funny, interactive conversation
about something affecting our health (and that our
health affects) that we all probably care about but
may not talk about: Sex. As the other part of the title
indicates, there will be wine served.
HelloFlo, founded by Naama Bloom (now a SheKnows
Media Sr. VP), was created with a mission to normalize
conversations about girls’ and women’s health at
every life stage, from the first period to menopause.
Naama will be joined by two experts: OB-GYN Dr.
Jessica Shepherd and author/therapist Sarah Brokaw
to talk about our bodies, our minds, and our sex lives.

PUBLISHING & WRITING | DIY BOOK DISTRIBUTION, PROMOTION, & PUBLICITY
For some authors, marketing a book can be more confusing than writing it. Despite the growing respect for self-published books
and print-on-demand presses, many bookstores still only want to deal with large distributors and wholesalers of major publishers—
and even if you’re lucky enough to have a big publisher, bookstores may not stock your book for long.
So, how do you get your book noticed and into your readers’ hands or devices?
Should you build a massive web presence and email list? How do you target your messaging to build a loyal fan base? What is a
street team, and do you need one?
During this session, our speakers will address these questions and more:

How to approach and target the right stores and outlets for your book

Tips to create a marketing plan to sell your book

These next-generation feminists come at it from a point
of view that explicitly takes the intersection of gender,

of the feminist movement, but a necessary part.
In particular, there is a new group of millennial celebrities

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF #BLOGHER16
“This year will be my 10th BlogHer and, as a selfproclaimed professional dork and high-functioning
introvert, I feel it safe to say conferencing can be
real hard, yo! On the other hand, with the advent
of social media, networking and preparing for the
conference has become much easier. Are you going
to #BlogHer16? EXCELLENT! My best advice? Join
the Going to BlogHer Annual Conference group
on Facebook and please don’t forget to introduce
yourself – my friend Melisa is the moderator and
does an amazing job at keeping the group engaged.
She’s pretty awesome! Oh, and while you’re at it,
take advantage of downloading the conference’s
mobile app, but don’t forget to schedule yourself
some downtime to experience the amazing
conference venue, as well. Go ahead, step outside,
grab yourself a beverage, find a sunny spot and do
some serious people-watching, because you never
know who you might bump into, right? I’ll be the
one demonstrating the amount of skill it takes to trip
over air, yo!”
“Are you hesitating on getting that latest piece
of technology that you aren’t sure, a) you will
use, b) you want to spend the money on, or c)
that you REALLY need? I say go for it! Don’t wait
until a few days before the conference and then
pay a ridiculous amount of shipping to get it here
(hopefully) in time for you to leave. Treat yourself.”

of various sponsor promotions and activities: follow

Q&A
WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A
QUESTION? WHAT IF I LOSE
SOMETHING?
Please consider the Registration Desk your concierge
and help center. There will be staff and volunteers at
the desk at all times throughout the conference. They
will be able to steer you in the right direction and will
be in direct contact with the entire conference staff
at all times. You can also flag down a SheKnows staff
member who can help you. We’ll be there with the
word “Staff” printed on all our badges to assist you
in whatever you need.
CAN I BRING MY HUSBAND /
WIFE/PARTNER/FRIEND/
CHILDREN ALONG?
Everyone, regardless of age or gender, is welcome
to register for the conference. However, only paid
registrants are allowed into the conference area
(although infants are allowed to accompany a parent
or guardian). Register your friends and family here.
WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE
LIKE IN LOS ANGELES?
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
You should wear whatever makes you comfortable
and best represents you. Are you a jeans and t-shirt
person? Dresses and heels? With so many different
styles and tastes amongst our attendees, whatever
you choose to wear will be just fine. So be you!
The most important item of clothing though, is
your shoes! Even with all the conference activities
happening in close proximity, there’s still a lot of
walking and time spent on your feet, so make sure
your footwear is comfortable.
“Don’t worry too much about what to wear to the
conference. The important thing is to be yourself and
wear what you feel comfortable and confident in!
Everyone on the BlogHer team has their own
conference uniform. For me, it’s either comfy pants
and blouse or a dress with pockets (I don’t carry
a purse with me during the event), and flats. You
wouldn’t ever catch me in heels outside of the
conference, so I’m certainly not going to attempt
them when I’m on my feet all day long. That’s the
key. You can’t focus on all the great learning and
networking opportunities the conference provides
if you’re stuck in uncomfortable clothing, shoes that
are pinching, or feeling self-conscious.”

Director of Sponsor Experience

August in LA is going to be sunny and beautiful, and
also warm. Remember though, the session rooms
will be air-conditioned, so you may want to bring a
light sweater, scarf, or a jacket to throw on over your
summer clothes.

Q&A
WHAT IS SHEKNOWS’ RELATIONSHIP
WITH THE SPONSORS?
