Letter
from
the
Director
I
t has been a busy start to the year. As I’m sure you’ve noticed,
there is a lot of activity downtown with the construction of two
parking platforms underway. The East Street Parking Platform will be
completed by the end of June, with construction on the west side platform
completed before we flip the switch on The Big, Bright Light Show this
year. The addition of these two parking platforms will make it that much
easier to come and enjoy downtown.
And speaking of enjoying downtown, I’m pleased to report that last
year’s most popular promotion, the Rochester Explorers Club, is returning
to downtown again this year. The original concept was simple – to create
a program that would encourage families to get out and explore all that
our downtown has to offer. So when we kicked it off at Sidewalk Sales last
year, we were hoping for a few hundred participants for our first year. By
the end of Sidewalk Sales, we had 788 little explorers signed up and ready
to roll.
I can’t even explain how much we loved seeing everyone all over
Rochester – dipping their toes in the Paint Creek, touching a fire truck at
the Fire Hall, visiting the playground and so much more. And the response
from the explorers and their parents was overwhelmingly positive and
always centered around the same theme. People thanked us for creating
a promotion that allowed them to spend quality time with their children,
engaging in fun, free activities right in their own backyard.
So with feedback like this, how could we not do it all again?! So we’re
expanding this year, offering 31 days of activities. A few of your favorites
will be back, but we’re hard at work coming up with new ideas so it will
truly be an adventure for you and your family. And knowing us, I think we’ll
have a few surprises in store for you, too! Check out the article on
page 27 for all the details.
We’re already off to a great start this year – and we can’t wait to see
you downtown!

IN THE
Kitchen WITH…
Linda Lucaj, Owner, Main Street Deli
709 N. Main, 248/656-5066, mainstreetdeli.rocks
, Celebrating 25 Years of Business .
It all started when she was 13 years old, washing dishes at her parent’s restaurant.
From there, she rapidly garnered experience that would become the foundation
for her next endeavor.
At just 23, she took all her combined experience and opened Main Street Deli to
peruse her curiosity where it led her.
Now at 43, she’s working hard to make Main Street Deli more than just a place
to get tasty food, although it does that very well. A heart for people, Linda has
always looked for ways to build relationships with the people who visit the deli.
She wants you to feel that sense of welcoming, of everyone knowing your name
and being happy to see you. Customers are more than an order, they’re friends in
the making.
Linda Lucaj
When you stop by and have a few minutes, ask her about Jerry - it’s a story to
