Supporting Animals
and Families in
Emergencies
What is the
SAFE Program?
Pets are part of families and
when families are in trouble
pets need help too. The Bucks
County SPCA works with first
responders to keep people and
pets safe during emergencies
and offers temporary shelter for
the pets of people who are
experiencing a personal crisis
such as hospitalization or
displacement due to fire or
other natural disaster.
Knowing their animals are safe
and well cared for gives people
the peace of mind they need to
focus on themselves. Animals
are admitted to our shelters
under this program with the
referral of a Social Service
Agency.
How Does the SAFE
Program Work?
Hospitals, shelters, social workers and
other social service agencies can always
rely on the Bucks County SPCA to take care
of clients’ pets so they can focus on
helping people through difficult times.
In addition to offering temporary housing
our staff gives workshops to police, rescue
and fire fighters on how to safely deal with
animals during emergencies. This way the
people on the ground know not only
where to bring animals in need of a
temporary haven but also how to get them
there safely and with a minimum amount
of stress for the animals and people
involved.
The Bucks County SPCA has been dedicated to preventing
and alleviating the suffering of animals since 1912
