Circus Incognitus
Québec
In Circus Incognitus, virtuoso clown Jamie Adkins is the vulnerable everyman, who has just
written a terrific show. He wanders onto stage with the new show in a box, delighted to find
the audience ready waiting. Knowing he has just the thing, Jamie struggles to build the
scene around him using everyday objects. Things go awry as his props prove most unhelpful:
his ladder disintegrates under foot! He wrangles an animated chair, tussles with a pesky
hat, negotiates a precarious slack wire and juggles almost everything. Festival goers even
get involved in the endeavour by tossing lemons for Jamie to catch on a fork...held between
his teeth! An expert at comedy born of desperation , Jamie’s performance is humble and
unguarded. Adkins deftly escorts the audience along his poetic journey with sidesplitting wit.

Fred Penner
Manitoba
More than the music, the two-time Juno winner for Best Children’s Album Sing with
Fred and eight-time nominee’s body of work is about energy and emotional connection.
The guy who crawled magically out of that hollow log for 12 seasons and nearly 900
episodes in the hit CBC TV show Fred Penner’s Place receives fan mail to this day from
some of the 55 million American viewers where the show ran for four years on the U.S.’s
Nickelodeon. Always building on a common theme rooted in integrity and a “belief
in what I can do” he has created a lasting impact that crosses the generations and
continues to grow.

H’SAO Quebec
H’Sao is one of the most prominent vocal groups of any genre in Québec. Yet, its members
are understandably also drawn to their generation’s urban music and activist streak. This
time, the Rimtobaye brothers and their accomplice Dono Bei L. return to their vocal origins,
which is precisely the meaning of Saar in Kabalai, their Chadian language.
‘’En première partie du show d’Angélique Kidjo, H’SAO, un groupe originaire du Tchad basé
à Montréal a réalisé une performance incroyable qui aurait pu être ‘’la tête d’affiche’’ de
cette soirée. De leurs interprétations vocales au jeu instrumental, H’SAO était au point du

Jonathan Burns
Pennsylvania, USA
Jonathan Burns always thought he was special. He was the kind of kid who would put his
leg over his head at the family reunion or perform musical armpit farts to impress the girls.
In 2004, contorting his body and impressing people with his unusual talents became his
full-time job. Since then he has performed at over 300 colleges & universities, at festivals
and theaters in 9 countries, and was recently featured on the Jay Leno Show & the Late
Show with David Letterman. When he’s not performing he can usually be found in an airport
terminal or spending time with his lovely wife & daughter (I guess the armpit farts worked!).

Lisa Odjig
Ontario
Lisa, originally from Wikwemikong, Manitoulin Island feels connected to her Odawa/Ojibwa Nation roots through her specialty, the dynamic
and colourful Hoop Dance. A hoop dancer is in continuous motion, forming shapes and designs with the hoops. Hood dancing is a storytelling dance, a teaching dance. The hoops create symbols and designs of nature, such as plants, trees, animals and birds and shows our
connection with each other, the earth and all living creatures. It’s a very energetic, high energy dance.
Lisa is a 2-time World Champion Hoop Dancer – the first woman to ever win this title. She has danced all over the world and was a
finalist on the television program “Canada’s Got Talent”.

Mr. Circus
Manitoba
Believe it or not, Mr. Circus does not appear on any birth certificates. He is in fact a
small town boy, named Isaac Girardin, who fell in love with juggling and circus arts
after a fateful week in Istanbul. Originally born and raised in Polar Bear country
(really), he has taken his art nationally and internationally, having clowned in Dubai,
opened for Juno Winners in Toronto, and taught in dozens of schools across Canada.
Please note that on Thursday this show is part of
the “Journée franco-fun Day” and the show will
be performed completely in French.
