The Alabama Trail of Tears Memorial, located
in the Etowah Historical Society at the Elliott
Community Center, tells the tragic story of the
Cherokee Indians of North Alabama’s relocation
to Oklahoma. Exhibit includes drawings,
illustrations, and explanatory panels.

Model Railroad Club maintains the

The Etowah Memorial Bridge crosses
the Coosa River. The 1094-foot bridge
was opened in 1927 and is dedicated
to the Etowah County World War
I heroes who made the ultimate
sacrifice for the country. The Emma
Sansom Monument, marking the
bridge entrance, stands in memory of
the Gadsden heroine. When the enemy
burned the bridge over Black Creek,
Sansom mounted behind Gen. Forrest
and showed him a ford where his
command crossed to capture the enemy,
thus saving the city of Rome, GA.

As Gadsden’s newest and finest
public golf course, this par 72,
6,800 yard, 18-hole course, will
challenge and delight golfers of
all skill levels. The course features finely-manicured Bermuda
fairways, bent grass greens, and
strategically-placed bunkers, all
set along the Coosa River. Nature
enthusiasts delight in the natural
beauty and calming wildlife that
surround the golf course.
This 18-hole course in Attalla features 6,502 yards of golf from the
longest tees for a par of 70. The
course rating is 66.6 and it has a
slope rating of 106. Wills Creek
golf course opened in 1960.
This 18-hole course in Glencoe
features 6,066 yards of golf
from the longest tees for a par
of 71 . The course rating is 68.0
and it has a slope rating of 120.
Designed by George L. Black, the
course opened in 1938.
A 90-foot waterfall named for Noccalula, a young Cherokee maiden who
plunged to her death rather than forsake her true love. She is memorialized by
a statue and the engraved story of her fate. Pioneer Village, a group of handhewn log buildings, represents a display of pioneer living conditions, country
store, grist mill, covered bridge, pioneer home, smoke house, blacksmith
shop and more. Also a War Memorial; Law Enforcement Memorial; botanical
gardens; hiking trails, including The Black Creek Trail; sightseeing train;
playground; mini-golf; picnic pavilions and meeting facilities.

was created by an impoundment of the
Coosa River. Largemouth bass, crappie,
and spotted bass are favorites to fish for.
The communities of Hokes Bluff, Gadsden,
Glencoe, Rainbow City, and Southside are
located along the Coosa.

rails-to-trails project. It wanders 33 miles through the countryside of

A wooded island on H. Neely Henry Lake set aside as an urban green
space, transforming flood plains and other wildlife acreage into
recreational space appreciated by hikers, bikers, and naturalists.
Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets are present on their nests from
March through late May or early June on the small island near the
northeast corner of the lake. The raised foot bridges throughout the
park offer more opportunities for birdwatching.
