Sound over hills and rolling valleys, through Hartford and to the Massachusetts border.
In any season, this is a picturesque and exciting location. It’s easy to get here. Hartford,
our Capital City, is just a 2-hour drive from New York or Boston. Bradley International
Airport – gateway to Southern New England – is only minutes from the Downtown
area, as is Brainard Airport, a favorite of small aircraft pilots. Our region is part of the
AMTRAK system and home to a number of major bus lines.

Farmington Freedom Trail sites:
Approximately 10 miles from Hartford, the
picturesquetown of Farmington played an
important part in the struggle against slavery.
From 1840 on, it was a major stop on the
Underground Railroad. “Passengers” were
helped along by “conductors” who hid them in
their own homes – “stations” on the “railroad.”
No one knows how many “passengers” came
through Farmington, but there were enough for
it to be dubbed “Connecticut’s Grand Central
Station.” Survivors of the Amistad rebellion
lived here for eight months in 1841. Here,
they studied, farmed, and raised funds for their
passage home. One tribesman, Foon, died here
and is buried in Riverside Cemetery. Most of
the Farmington sites still are private homes.
