PAJULAHTI ENDURANCE
CONFERENCE 2015
27.–29.11.2015
The traditional Pajulahti Endurance Conference will be organized in co-operation with European
Athletics (EA), Finnish Athletics Federation (FAF), KIHU – Research Institute for Olympic Sports and
Pajulahti Olympic Training Center. This year’s focus will be on training for endurance sports.
MAIN THEMES:
• Overall perspectives of training in endurance
events from WW3000m steeplechase to
marathon and triathlon.
• From youth talent to elite athlete in
endurance events.
• Paralympic point of view in endurance
sports (triathlon).
• Endurance athlete´s nutrition and recovery.
EDUCATIONAL METHODS:
Key note lectures, practical demonstrations and panel
discussions. The conference language is English.
CONFERENCE FEE:
• Registrations fee is 340 € and it includes accommodation in
double rooms (2 nights), meals, conference program and materials.
• Single room for an additional 30 €/night.
TRAVEL INFORMATION:
• Arriving by air via Helsinki-Vantaa airport: Direct 1½-hour bus
connection from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to Lahti; departures

LECTURERS:
Jerónimo Bravo Rodríguez
Spanish coach of top Eritrean distance runners such as Zersenay Tadese. Tadese is the best half marathon runner ever; he is the current
world record holder (58:23) and
has won 5 World Half Marathon
Championships. He has also been a
distinguished runner in cross country (7 World Cross Country medals
including individual gold in Mombasa
2007) and 10000 m (PB 26:37
Jerónimo Bravo Rodríguez
and Zersenay Tadese
Olympic bronze in Athens 2004 and
World Championships silver in Berlin 2009).
Bravo has coached Tadese for most of his late starting
running career, converting a cycler into a running economy
miracle. Other distinguished pupils of Bravo are Teklemariam
Medhin (two times World Cross Country Championships
medalist), Samuel Tsegay (silver in last Half Marathon World
Championships), Yonas Kifle (bronze in Half Marathon World
Championships) and Nguse Amlosom (current African
10000 m champion).
Johan Voogd
Dutch coach and manager. Among her athletes
stands out the rising star
Jip Vastenburg, European
U19 champion at 5000 m
and recent European U23
champion at 10000 m in
Tallin. In the recent IAAF
Jip Vastenburg and Johan Voogd
World Championships held
in Beijing Jip was 11th in the 10000m event, being the 2nd
best European. Her personal bests are 15:27 and 31:35.
In the past Voogd has also coached athletes like Gert-Jan
Liefers, Dutch 1500 m record holder with 3:32.89.
Iñigo Mujika
Basque sports physiologist and
coach. Mujika is currently coaching
the Olympic distance triathlete
Ainhoa Murua, two times European
Championsips medallist (Eilat 2012
and Geneva 2015) and 7th at London 2012 Olympics, and has also
coached multiple Ironman triathlon
winner Eneko Llanos. Mujika has
also been the physiologist and traiIñigo Mujika and Ainhoa Murua
ner of Euskaltel Euskadi professional
cycling team, head of research
development at Athletic Club Bilbao professional football club
and physiologist of the Spanish swimming team in the lead-up
to London 2012. He has also published over 90 articles in
peer reviewed journals, 5 books and 36 book chapters.
Kaisa Lehtonen &
Paul Sjöholm
Lehtonen is the current
European middle distance triathlon champion
(Rimini, Italy) and long
distance world championships bronze (Motala,
Sweden). Last year she
was second in the long distance world championships (Weihai,
China 2014). Sjöholm is Lehtonen´s successful triathlon coach
who has also been coaching in swimming, running and crosscountry skiing.
Guy Storbacka &
Camilla Richardsson
Storbacka is the most
distinguished steeplechase coach in Finland and
current coach of Camilla
Richardsson, who was
fourth on the European
U23 championships
(Tallin 2015) with a PB of
9:46.34. Storbacka has
also coached other elite
athletes such as the Finnish steeplechase record
(9:24.70) holder Sandra
Eriksson.
Veli-Pekka Valkonen & Veikko Sinisalo
Valkonen is a physiatrist and nutritionist who works with elite
athletes such as the racewalker Aku Partanen. Sinisalo is a
rowing coach who has coached Sanna Stén and Minna Nieminen (silver medal winners in women´s lightweight double sculls
at Beijing 2008 Olympics), the Belgian Tim Maeyens (Olympic
single scull record holder) and the Czech double scull team.
Jussi Lotvonen
multisport para-athlete transitioning to
paratriathlon and aiming at Paralympics in Rio 2016. In 2006 a tumor
was found in his leg, which had to be
amputated. Since 2007 Lotvonen
has represented the Finnish national
parahockey team several times.
