Dance.
Elections in September!
Our “Lady in Red” June 3rd dance was indeed one of the best of my four years
as president. It made me happy to see the huge smiles on everyone watching
and having a turn dancing with Felix and Annie, the dance pros from the Palm
Coast/Flagler Beach area. The challenge of everyone trying their best to
follow Felix’s lead was fun to watch. Even DJ’s Marty and Liz got a chance to
dance with them. Both were in 7th heaven after their experience. Marty did a
swing with Annie and used all of his dance moves he could think of.
We want to thank Bill & Norma Wayland for offering their time to give the
“Beginner” dance lesson at 5:30pm. They’ve been doing a professional and
fantastic job. Bill is a former Arthur Murray dance studio teacher and is going
through the dance syllabus which includes handouts showing patterns and
basics. We encourage newcomers to participate by stimulating their interest
in dance. It’s great to see new people both young and old enter the sport of
dancing. Get your friends and neighbors to join us at one of our dances as
they may be very surprised as to how much fun it is while at the same time
getting exercise.
As we began our June 17th dance we are happy to see a few more people
attend Bill and Norma’s “Beginner’s” dance class. We served cake (in
celebration of “Fathers Day), coffee, hors d'oeuvre and beverages. Thanks to
all who brought some of the “Goodies”. Feel free to bring something at any
time. I also want to thank Don & Mary Whitney for taking pictures throughout
the evening. Don compiled many photos and we’ll be putting some of them in
the newsletter. Chuck and Amy MacDougall, our newsletter and website
editors, have been doing a great job getting the newsletter out and updating
the national website. We certainly appreciate all their hard work.
DJ Johnny “G” provided the music and Bill Dimmit taught a lesson in the 4
count Hustle, which was new to many, but everyone seemed to catch on to it.
It’s interesting to have so many dance instructors teach a wide variety of
dances. Nice job! We thank Ed and Louise Hanlon and Ann Nickens for the
beautiful dance exhibition featuring the Cha-cha and the Rumba. They will be
competing in the Louisiana Gumbo competition in Baton Rouge LA. Let’s wish
them luck and cheer them on.
Also thanks to the dancers who volunteered to participate in our Ocala
Chapter 6027 USA Dance “Outreach Program” to do a dance demonstration to
the music of DJ’s Gail & Alan (The Keicher’s Jr.) at the Timber Ridge Nursing
Facility on May 30th. The room was filled with residents enjoying the
activities. All were there to celebrate the 108th birthday of Mr. Jack Silverman.
He said his favorite song is “Under the Board Walk” to which he sang along.
What an inspiration. We are planning another event in the near future at the
Bridge Assisted Living facility and possibly other facilities. Anyone interested
in participating can call me at 352-307-8486.
Until next time, I’ll see you on the dance floor.
