Draper Center for Dance Education, the official school of the
Rochester City Ballet. She was invited to attend Alonzo King LINES
Ballet summer intensive, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Perry
Mansfield summer intensive, and has attended summer intensives at
both the Juilliard School and The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Ms.

Gwirtzman’s “Encore”, and George Balanchine’s “Serenade”. After
training, she attended the University of Arizona on scholarship where
she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance after just two and a
half years. While at the University of Arizona, Ms. Rodriguez performed
River North Dance Chicago repertoire “Evolution of a Dream”, George
Balanchine’s “Rubies”, Ernie Flatt’s “Firebird”, as well as many soloist
roles in works by Michael Williams and James Clouser. Ms. Rodriguez
also choreographed a solo that was selected to premier at the Stevie
Eller Dance Theatre in 2014. Following graduation, Ms. Rodriguez
returned to Rochester and is currently a Company Member with the
Rochester City Ballet.
Ballet and Contemporary Classes
!
Shannon is classically trained in both Vaganova and Cecchetti. Both are methods
of ballet technique and set training systems.
"
Vaganova is designed to involve the whole body in every movement, with equal
attention paid to the upper body, legs and feet. It’s believed that this approach increases
consciousness of the body, thus creating a harmony of movement and greater expressive
range.
!
The Cecchetti method is especially concerned with anatomy within the confines of
classical ballet technique, and seeks to develop the essential characteristics of dance in its
students through a rigid training regime. The goal is for the student to learn to dance by
studying and internalising the basic principles, in an effort to become self-reliant rather than
imitating the movements executed by their teacher.
Well-trained Cecchetti dancers have a purity of line and simplicity of style which enables
them to take their places in dance companies of other genres of classical ballet.
!
Shannons Contemporary class style ranges from intense and expressive to athletic
or fluid. Class begins with a structural warm up that guides students to make structural and
muscular connections to their unique physicality, focusing on the articulation of the spine,
opening of joints, and movement of the body through space. The warm up is followed by
specific phrases and variations that encourage self exploration and focus on dynamic
sequencing.
Master Classes are $40.00. All registrations and payments must be made PRIOR to the
day of the master class. WALK INS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Classes will be limited to

BOLLYWOOD WORKSHOP WITH Meha Sadana
Meha Sadana began learning Bharatanatyam, an ancient classical art of Indian dance, at the mere
age of five years old. She simultaneously began pursuing Bollywood . Now, at the age of 19 years old,
Meha has joined Husky Bhangra, a competitive dance team at the University of Connecticut which
performs a cultural dance that originated in Punjab, known as Bhangra. Not only does she continue to
excel in her own progress in dance, but she dedicates her time and effort into teaching others of all
ages. Dance has always been the light in Meha's life that gleamed in times of darkness, and she
hopes to share her gift with others so they can find a similar solace. For her master class, Meha will be teaching the girls primarily Bollywood. Bollywood is a fascinating
and graceful style of dance. It is known to be paired with upbeat music and breathtaking costumes. It
is featured in the majority of indian movies and on shows such as So You Think You Can Dance.
Bollywood is such a wonderful style for people to learn because it connects them to the unique Indian
culture. The fast and intricate steps leave audiences in awe because it is such a rare form of dance.
No one should pass up the opportunity to learn this unforgettable style!

Barbara’s approach and serious attention to detail will give your dancer the polish he/she
needs going into the next dance season and for their future.
This week will be focused on the “nitty gritty” of technique in ballet and pointe using the
Cecchetti Method. Barbara has spent most of her teaching years using this method to train her
students and even teachers. Her success in the method is evident in her teaching credits.
Cecchetti training is a rigorous method which pays careful attention to the laws of
anatomy. It develops all of the qualities essential to the dancer: balance, poise, strength,
elevation, elasticity, “ballon”, etc. It is classic in its purity and clear-cut style.
Cecchetti-trained dancers have achieved places in ballet and dance companies all over
the world. Well-trained Cecchetti dancers have a purity of line and simplicity of style which
enables them to take their places in dance companies of other genres of classical ballet.
